Tailing the Komets

Let the trash talk begin!

Blackhawks vs. Red Wings.

It's gonna go six. Of course, it's going to be Detroit, who did you think I'd say?

Interesting point: In the past few years I thought one of the Red Wings' major advantages was overall speed, but I wonder if the Blackhawks might be quicker now. Red Wings will still win because they have the better depth on defense, Chicago hasn't really beeen tested yet -- at least not like Detroit so far, and the Red Wings are just the better team. LOL.

What do you think?

I think you better quit drinking so much cough syrup; it's clouding your judgement. The Hawks are young there is no doubt. They also don't quit and they are FAST. They were tested pretty well last series against Vancouver and one of the best goalies in the league. It will be interesting. It will be a different team than the one Detroit played on New Year's Day. The Western Tide is changing. GO HAWKS!!!! The UC will be rockin'!

Blackhawks all the way baby!!! Blackhawks are faster and I agree with BAM24... Sedin twins, Sundin and Luongo?? Pretty good test if you ask me. Let Big Buff spend some time in front of Osgood and get in his head like he did Luongo. Another thing that was pretty cool in the postgame interviews the other night... the "young" Hawks WANT to face the Redwings. Will be a great series. Hawks win 1 of the 1st road games and take home ice advantage and the series in 6. Go Komets!!

I think the last time I saw the two play on January 1, it was no contest. I'm sure they've gotten better since then, and I did have my doubts about Detroit going into the playoffs. Would Osgood be solid? But so far he has done his job, and the 2009 Red Wings are playing like they think they are the 2008 Red Wings. I'd give the edge to Detroit, and I doubt Chicago will give them as much trouble as the Ducks did.

And while we're on the subject, it's time to bid farewell to my original Stanley Cup pick, the Boston Bruins. That'll teach 'em to not show up for a few games in a critical series. I had hoped they knew better, but no. Even if they had won tonight, they wouldn't have stood a chance against Pittsburgh. Not playing the way they were playing. So hey. Looks like we could be looking at "Detroit/Pittsburgh: Part 2".

So Blake... Just wondering. If I make it in tomorrow, would you be willing to sign a copy of "Tales of the Komets" as well?

Go National Serv-All!! That's my trash talk. Oops, go Wings!

Heck I don't care, the Komets won, and I have no hair. I sit around here rhyming like Dr. Suess, I now look like Blake but I didn't reach for a noose, I bet the next time he sees me he'll want to kick my caboose. Enjoy the playoffs with its scoring, drama and muscle, now I'm off to bed, good night all from your friend Nipsey Russell.

I'll take Detroit. Only because of their experience. I think everything is pretty even. I think it will take 6 games. Pittsburg and Detroit for the "Cup". At that point I just want a good series.

Woohoo, Original Six series!

This series will be something fun to watch while I'm waiting on Pittsburgh to play. No offense to anyone out there because I don't know any of you, but I have to root for the Hawks because every Red Wing fan I've ever met has been so obnoxious that it pushes you towards whoever they are playing at the time. I'm sure there are a lot of great Wing fans out there, I just have yet to meet them :) How many of Detroit's players are collecting Social Security by the way?? Hopefully it goes to 7 games with a really long series of overtimes in Game 7!

Let's just put it this way...my favorite teams are the Flyers (someone put me out of my misery) and anyone playing the Red Wings. Let's go Blackhawks!

Hawks in 6! Hawks are younger and faster, and I just plain can't stand the Red Wings. I have an obnoxious co-worker who is a huge Red Wings fan, so there's gonna be some trash-talking going on here for sure. Of course, I don't have the best of luck rooting for Chicago teams, I've been a Cubs fan since I was a kid. Enough said...

Larry, that was hilarious! I do have to wonder though, how many people here are old enough to know who Nipsey Russell is. I am... *rolls eyes*

Of course, Wendy. I sign everything but body parts. I draw the line there, no pun intended. Plus, if I started, Hunter would never let me stop, right buddy?

I can't believe that the Hawks haven't been tested, but the Wings have?? The Wings played the Columbus BJ's and the 8th seeded Ducks.

The Hawks played the 5th seed and 4th seed and only had home ice in the first round.

Hawks in 7, an ugly 7. Lot's of blood.

Wendy

I think it's pretty obvious by now that the Ducks were the 8th seed but they weren't an 8th seed, if you know what I mean. But yeah, the BJ's choked. No question about it.

Maybe the Ducks just weren't really all that good, and the Wings played to their level? Just a thought......

It's true that it can be difficult to judge that. After the first round, I was not necessarily impressed by the Ducks. After all, the Sharks, like expensive aquarium fish, are famous for going belly-up. If there is a way to lose, they'll find it. Enter Anaheim... "You have insulted the honor of this hockey club," ...said the Duck. ;) Sorry, I've been dying to say that. I wondered just how many games it would take Detroit to put the Ducks down. After all, Detroit is a solid team (with the possible exception of goaltending). More importantly, they play with absolute confidence and passion. They've been here before. They know what it takes and are how to give it. But this Anaheim team had spirit. They wanted it bad. And Jonas Hiller was outstanding for them. So it wound up taking 7 games. No, I don't underestimate the Ducks. They were fighting for it every moment of every game. That's what the playoffs are all about.

As for Chicago, Calgary was nothing to write home about. They couldn't even hold on to the division going down the stretch. And yes, Vancouver has some great players. God knows, I love the Sedins. And Luongo did a good job. Is he overrated? Maybe. But for the most part, he was solid. I don't think Sundin was a factor. Beyond that, it's like Gillgan's Island... "And the rest." So as much as I like Vancouver, I just don't think they had the depth it takes to be a Stanley Cup champ. Chicago does, but they are young and inexperienced in such things. That can be a good thing. They are blissfully unaware that the odds are against them. On the other hand, it's also a recipe for a rude awakening when you come up against the wrong opponent.

GO RED WINGS!!!

The Hawks are young and very skilled but this is going to be one heck of a series! I think they were tested semi-well against Vancouver. Luongo is one heck of a goalie.

How can someone say that the Wings weren't tested by the Ducks? Just because they were an 8th seed? Many of them have playoff experience, something that the Hawks don't have but not nearly as bad as the Blue Jackets. The Wings have one of the best, if not the best defense in the NHL. The Wings are totally a different team once it comes playoff time. Ozzie will come up big as well. They may have some old players, but some of those players are the best in the league. Its like Shaf, who can out skate and out skill most of the guys who are in their 20's in the IHL.

With that said....Wings in 6!

Wendy, when will you be "signing" that book you just wrote?? Good Lord??

Harley
Fri, 05/15/2009 - 7:11pm

Wings in six. The Hawks don't have the size of the defensemen that the Ducks had and that is what took the wings seven games to beat them. The Hawks are young but don't count them out for the next couple of years! Like last years penguins you have to get there and experience the finals and if you lose it gives you all the momentum to get back there and win it the next year (except this year because the wings are going back to back like the Komets did)!!!!!!

Go Hawks although I think it will take a bit of luck.

I've always been a Hawks fan and I've always pulled for who ever is playing against the Wings. This series has the potential for a lot of joy or a lot of misery.

Hey, I normally keep it reasonably short. Don't tempt me. It's just that Blake asked me about my opinion on the Detroit/Chicago series at the book signing today, and I don't think I gave a proper response on the spot.
