Tailing the Komets

Live Blog

As opposed to a dead one or possibly only mildly interesting or incredibly dull.

With it being spring break, I'm betting there's going to be a bunch of kids at the game tonight. Welcome back to Riley Albahrani to the press box after she was out sick last week.

Your referee is Craig "Captain Hook" Welker

Anybody remember where that reference is from?

DiPace interferes with Hodgman.

Blake
Wed, 04/01/2009 - 7:30pm

Still 4-1 15:11 left.
Yep, that was Luciano Aquino making out during the game. I'll bet that's a fine.

DiPace jumps Hodgman away from the pile. Five minute power play coming up for the Komets.

ToeBlake
Wed, 04/01/2009 - 7:35pm

Blake
Wed, 04/01/2009 - 7:41pm

Komets score on the power play, 5-1, by Versteeg-Lytwyn off a nice play by Varone. Still 1:29 of pp left.

Blake

Again Later takes a cheap shot and that is why a Mac or Leg's in a line-up is important that crap does not happen when one of them is in the line-up period

cant believe one of the fighters wasnt in the lineup vs musk. makes no sense with the so called tough guys they got. i would have set pence or stinko and played mad since the big o is on ir.

Then you'd only play with five defensemen? That doesn't make any sense. And what's Bert, chopped liver? It's a little tough to argue with the results.

Nice deal of you doing this tonight Blake.... You keep doing this and what hair you have will be gone as you spin your head trying to watch, take notes, and post.... ROFL

My guess is Sims did not play the tough guys to send a message. You can try to run us out of game and we will still beat you..... Now Sims has the option to play some heavy weights against them the next time or go with a scoring machine..... My guess he will play at least one of the heavy weights to settle some scores before the playoffs.

Keep in mind when the playoffs start that at home the Komets turn in their lineup after the other team. Sims has the option of going big and heavy or going with speed and scoring.... That is a nice option to have.

I pose these questions to those of you who think little of Sims scratches.....

1- Do you think Sims enjoys benching guys he likes and has enjoyed working with all year?

2- Sims is hired and David gets the best players to WIN. Do you think their track record over the years shows they know what they are doing or are stupid?

3- When the final buzzer goes off in the playoffs and if the Komets win will you still be harping that Sims screwed up?

I would agree with you Blake about Bert, but I can't he has not shown the willingness to "fight" that he did last year. Who knows maybe it has to do with his day job and possible injury during a fight. When you have a hot power play teams are little less willing to do stupid stuff our pp has been our problem all year and thank god we scored on the 5 minute PP last night, but we were 1 for 7 on the nite. Here is the problem Hodgman has to play 6 games what happen to him last night could have been ugly if he had gotten hurt. Last face it he will be a marked man and him running over Pool wasn't a smart way to introduce yourself back into the league even if Later pushed him. If Al dresses 7 d-men for the play-off's Bert is going to have to police the ice period, but if he is not going to dress 7 d-men then Mac should be in the line-up on ocassion which means some good forward would have to sit. That should not be a problem since at the present time you could say we are "Loaded" at that spot.

He's not going to dress seven d-men, but he has to keep one in reserve in case someone gets hurt -- just like happened last year. I'm so freaking bored with the whole fighting issue. What a waste of time. Isn't Wrestlemania coming up for something. Last night was the perfect example of teams that can't play fight. Nothing proven, nothing gained.

Sorry, Toe, I need a nap. I'm just supremely bored with fighting. It never solves anything, just leads to the next one, the next arguement, the next discussion with all the same blah, blah, blah. One side will never convince the other so it's a waste of time to me.

If Hodgman would have gotten seriously hurt this blog would have been jumping with the question why didn't Al dress Mac you know and I know it. When you have plenty of offense with the forwards we have and 6 d-men the purpose of the extra player was to dress a "role" player. That is why the IHL implemented the rule. Now who knows Mac may have been sick I don't know if what happen on the ice last night would have happen with last year's team DiPace would have 4 other K's right on top of him pounding him...

Yeah for Blake! as the mother of three boys, I am glad someone else said it before me. Truth be told I never post on here, for fear of putting my skate in my mouth. I am glad to see someone say, can't we just play hockey??? You can be a good D-man without punding someones face in the ice, right?? The other truth is, I almost (chickened out) asked Legault if, he could go a game without fighting. Just to be an example, the boys had been playing stick and fighting about everytime, guess who was always in the fight. I think that next game he dropped them within 3 seconds of the game starting. What does it prove anyway? The sad part is and the only reason I bring it up. Was last night when the guys where the blog (THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU!) the only questions the boys could come up to ask Legault and Mac had to do with fighting.

Fighting for the sake of fighting is a true waste of time for the team. The guys that do this often set in the stands or the center of the bench or get benched. They can not be controlled by the coach and hence don't get to play.

However, fighting is often a responding result of other things going on during the game. Sometimes the fans don't even see what took place. Or even a game or so before....

I can give a list of maybe 20-24 guys over the years who where known for being tough and fighters but picked their places/times.... to serve a purpose....

The only thing about out lawing fighting is the high sticks, x-crecks, and other cheap shots have shown to increase... More guys get hurt that way then from fights....
