Tailing the Komets

MacMillan may sit for a while

The video is very clear on Brad MacMillan's elbowing major against Glenn Detulleo. It's a sure bet the league will review this one for a probable suspension. I'd expect it to be at least five games.

Come on Blake, that was a pure reaction by Mac not intentional. If the league gives him 5 games that would be pure BS

If someone had done that to a Komet you'd be screaming for 10 games. When I first saw it happen, I didn't think it was that bad at all, but after watching the tape, it's one of the worst elbows I think I've ever seen.

Great game, great night, good hard solid hit on dumbtuleo by mac, if he gets suspended I am writing letters to the league, local newspapers, spca, peta, aarp.

Listen, how often do Justin and I agree on something? LOL. We both said five games and we saw the video in the press box where everyone saw it and went wow and backed up.

That was not an attempt to injure. It was pure reaction even Irons and Chase on radio believe that and I am sure they have the video to look at like you do. He got 5 minutes because he had blood just like a high stick infraction which also gets a game misconduct. You also have to take into account that Detualleo size in that situation and If Brad had not reacted he might have gotten a teeth full of elbow and stick from Detualleo. I agree that you can give an opinion on a guy should or should not be suspended but I think you cross the line when you state how much that player should be suspended allow the league to make that determination and then you can comment after the fact if it should have been more or less.

No, they did not look at the tape. They had the exact same angle Justin and I did, and when we saw it live we both thought it wasn't that bad. Then we looked at the tape, and like I said, it was one of the worst elbows I've ever seen.

Just like you, everybody in the press box thought it wasn't that bad when they saw it live. Then they looked at the tape and everyone felt it was pretty bad. Whether it was intent to injure is competely irrelevant.

As for my opinion, it's rich coming from you criticizing someone else for having an opinion on something like this.

Blake, I thought it was a viscious elbow also. I posted earlier on the competitions blog that I will wait and see the video, but whether it was an elbow, or roughing, the call was a correct one. I also posted that if Stayzer had done the same thing to a Komet player everyone would be outraged by the cheap hit. Regardless, it is situations like this that will lead to a reduction of ice time for MacMillan. Sims has to trust that the players he puts on the ice will not do something stupid and put the team in a hole. That happened a couple of times last night and not just by MacMillan. By the way Blake, I subscribe to both papers and enjoy your work and Justin's work also. It is nice to have two places to blog and I want you to know that I appreciate it.

So if you try to stop yourself from getting hit and deliver a hit in return that means you should be suspended? You keep harping on the video so lets see it.

I stand by my original statement on the Justin's blog...What has Mac done to make a personal agenda?

Also....10,509 people saw something with their own eyes that never happened? It was all an optical illusion? Was that really David Copperfield in Mac's jersey and we (the general public) couldn't see his magic until it was played back in super-slow-motion and in reverse? You're going to tell 10,000+ people that what they saw was incorrect and only you and Justin are right? That's rich.

I just don't think that a "sports writer" should give his opinion on how long a suspension should or should not be. Fine you think Mac should be suspended great, but once you put a length to that suspension you set a "perception". As a fan sure we can speculate and say it should be 2, 5, 10 games because we are fans. Now after the league has given a ruling then by all means either applaud them for getting right or rip them for getting it wrong.

toe blake making the rules again! opinions are opinions, who are you to tell the person who runs the blog what hes allowed to think and say?? i doubt that not too many people even saw the hit. i sit right there and looked away and missed it so i cant say anything till i see the replay.

ToeBlake, this is a blog. Blake's blog. That means he has the right to state his opinion like any other fan. No, it wouldn't be appropriate to speculate in his news articles, but blogs are different.

Believe nothing that you "hear" and only half of what you "see". And the truth is that I often need the replay to tell what happened in a hockey game. Often, you can't even say for certain who scored a goal. Sometimes even the people on the ice can't tell who scored a goal. So yeah, seeing the replay can make a world of difference. If Justin and Blake both said it was bad, I have no doubt that it was. That's not a knock on Mac. It's just that sometimes things happen in the heat of the moment that we don't intend.

I must apologize to Blake since this was just on a blog entry not a published newspaper article. I stand corrected and apologize for not having my facts straight. So Blake please accept my apology for criticizing you in this instance.

Blake

What about all the other intances? LOL. (I'm incredibly thin skinned).

I just think it's funny that if this exact hit had happened to a Komet, you'd all be ranting for 10 games. No way did Mac intend it to be this bad (he's too classy for that), but it happened so he'll have to accept the consequences.

I'm trying to get video, but no promises.

Blake
Sun, 03/15/2009 - 2:54pm

And the first thing we'd all be doing if it was against the Komets would be to speculate how many games that opponent would get.

Burgee

It was an incorrect call by the official, if anything it should have been an interference AND delay of game on dumbtueleo, Mac was going for the puck and dumbtueleo got in the way.

ToeBlake
Sun, 03/15/2009 - 3:46pm

I just think there was no intent in the case...Mac is playing today and if it was really a bad situation then I am sure they would have suspended him. Later at Muskegon got suspended today for an incident last night in Muskegon. If it would have been against a K I would not have been demanding a 10 game suspension, come on...As for other instances I will pled the fifth..lol

By the way K's up 2-0 and Leg's got another assist on the powerplay..The K's are flying today and throwing there weight around...

I'd like to see video, because it just didn't look bad at all...

Blake

Again, when I saw it live, I thought it was a horrible call, the worst I'd seen all season. Then we saw the tape...

I did not get a good view on the hit. I was sitting in lower 226, and I could not see what had happened. I don't expect to much from the league though, since it seems like this whole season they have been very soft on handing out suspensions.

Much ado about nothing? I would think we would know if Mac was going to be suspended by now.

I don't agree with it and feel it was a reaction, but the league has spoken...

I want to see the tape to see if he reacted to the K-wings player or did he have his straight arm out as he came in ?

ToeBlake

Blake:

Ok I saw the video from the b2 feed which isn't the greatest to determine but enough. If the league is trying to crack down on blows to the head then they got it right it was a blow to the head/face but I want you to evaluate this suspension to this non suspension of a player. Remember when Matt Gens flying open ice hit on Varone? That contact was also to the head and no suspension was given. Matt Gens should have gotten a 5 game suspension, but didn't so In this case it is not equal justice..I think that is a legit question to ask the league and there should be video because the K's ask for it to be reviewed. That is why I didn't like speculation for how many games should be given out, because of the Gens hit vs Varone there was no suspension given.
