It's under Rule 47, Any player who deliberately removes his elbow pads or shoulder pads prior to an altercation shall be fined $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second and $500 for the third. He shall also receive a game misconduct under rule 47 and such misconducts shall be added to the player's accumulatoin.

Must say that that's the first I've heard of that one. So what does that mean that it is added to a player's accumulation. Is that to say that because of this technicality, Mac would be closer to getting in serious trouble should he be given more game misconducts in the future?

And by the way, I'm interviewing Staff Sgt. Mark Boner, the guy who raised the Komets flag in Iraq, on New Year's Eve. Are there any questions anyone would like to see him asked?

I'd like to know how many times Big Snake has gotten a GM for this... that dude undresses.. eats a snack, calls his mother, sets up a camcorder, blogs about his upcoming fight, and takes off his elbow pads before circling around at center ice to "fight" (or hug it out) just about everytime he's in an altercation (unless he's jumping Chaulk or Tab Lardner)...

It just seems like anytime MacMillan is involved he's getting additional penalties. I'll stop short of saying "they're out to get him" but I know this has gone unpunished several time before..

so say mac is fighting someone and his elbow pad drops to his fist....does he stop to push it back up or flip it off.....if he flips it off then will he get a GM also? what if he does nothing and continues to pound the guy with his elbow pad? some of the rules are silly in my opinion.....what about a penalty for continuing to pound a guy after the he is on the ground?

An interesting fight would be Worlton and Bigsnake. It'd be a solid 10-15 minute intermission before either one hugged each other

me78. I am pretty sure the rule is about taking it off before the fight, not in the middle of it. If he is in the middle of the fight and his elbow pad falls down to his wrist, he shakes it off and no big deal.

My real question is if the IHL is promoting the toughness of it's league why than be in such a hurry to add penalties to any player to remove them from the game. These are the players people are paying their money to see play. I don't care if it is Mac or Big Snake. They (refs) just seem to add on silly (my opinion) penalties which take these guys out of the game.

I can remember in the 'old" IHL we would have 10 guys in a scrum pushing and shoving each other. The ref might call one 2 minute penalty. Last night PC is getting crosschecked pushed and shoved, he put a glove in the guys face and he gets the penalty. Three guys (ref's) all saw Mac get jumped by Parker. The fight (if you want to call it that) happens and Mac gets the extra penalty. That was after three of them put their heads together. I happen to think all three got it wrong. The 24 year old ref I thought called a pretty good game up until that point. I just do not like to be to critical of them in general because I must work with them. I said what I felt needed to be said. Most likely the only guy who will agree with me is chuckitt, but I feel better now.

Good Post Schebig.

The entire ref crew looked pretty young.. Nothing against that, I was just shocked that they all looked under 25..

I wasn't sure the ref was old enough to drive! That's about all I have to say about the game last night...

This has nothing to do with anything but the Pyromaniac's Fireworks store on Old Trail Road owned by K's asst coach is on fire... it's right down the street from my mom.

hey take a look at this............ i went to the game last night and about mac's penalties you could see that the refs were inexperienced because they asked one of the guys in the booth to check the rule book to see if what mac did was wrong! that is rediculious i also think we should have two linesmen and two refs so they can see more! i was also upset about how they did not have one experienced ref out there with them. i think the komets should do one thing. ask for NHL trained refs that call things or we are leaving to another leauge. because as you can tell right now the komet fans are the only ones holding the IHL together. so why not try it. and dont you think the refs are trained to know that stuff. so if anyone wants to see this picture please post your email adress and i will send this to you. like the old saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words.

mitchwoodsfan--I was in that booth and that did not happen. We normally look up rule numbers to put on the official sheet. I have NEVER had a referee in all my years ever ask me to look up a rule before they made their call. It just does not happen. I do not need the picture I was there up close and in person. Sorry buddy but you couldn't be more wrong.

Folks, the word deliberately is in the rules. That saves the player if the pad happens to fall off in it's own.

Going back to my point last night though... it is incredible to me they are more worried about the safety resulting from damage caused by elbows than they are damage to brains when uncovered head hits ice.

Parker tried to get Mac to go off the face off, and when that didn't happen he saw Mac on the boards and left his feet to run Mac's head into the boards. I'm not sure how none of the three refs saw that. I'm even more puzzled by the fact that they were more worried about giving a game misconduct for allegedly taking off an elbow pad than what Parker did to start that fight. I'm all for guys getting the penalties they deserve, but the gamer was uncalled for. Nevermind all the cheap shots Briggs gave out to P.C., Hukalo and OC without drawing more than one penalty.

UGH>>>>
A 25-year old linesman is reportedly in critical condition after his neck was cut by a skate while he was trying to break up a fight on Tuesday.

Kevin Brown, 25, was cut during a Junior C game in Woodstock, Ontario between the New Hamburg Firebirds and the Woodstock Renegades. According to London, Ontario radio station AM980, Brown is listed in critical condition in hospital.

The incident took place when the two players fell to the ice. Woodstock's Craig Thomson reportedly threw New Hamburg's Reid Oliver to the ice, and Oliver's skate caught the linesman under the chin strap as he went down.

The linesman continued to try to break up the fight, but soon realized the injury he had suffered and covering the wound, skated to the Firebirds' bench.

"I saw the skate go up and (Brown) grabbed his neck right away," fellow linesman Bruce Byers told the QMI news agency afterwards. "You knew he was leaking. I told the guys on the ice, 'It's done.'"

Tragic. I hope the linesman will be alright. But those things do happen from time to time when you wear razor-blades on your feet.

Hey, I remember watching a game in which a ref got out what I assumed was some kind of pocket rulebook to page through before making a few key calls. People kept shouting, "Hey ref, don't you KNOW the rules?"

Dschebig
Wed, 12/30/2009 - 4:48pm

Wendy-- Shame on you. They all carry little pocket notebooks and write down players numbers. I have seen many of them and there are zero rules in them. Just blank pages. Go have a Foo Foo with Burgee and feel shame! :)

Blogfoul, Wendy, refs can't carry rule books, you have to be able to read first.

Wed, 12/30/2009 - 6:09pm

Dschebig is right...they carry a small notebook so they can write down things ...because their small brains cant remember them on the long skate to the scorers table...they can however remember to call Mac on a game misconduct for dumb stuff...Blake...how many GMs until a suspension?...

Five and a player misses one game. Each one after that adds a game to the suspension.

That might have been the case, but he wasn't writing in it. There was one of those "stop everything for 20 minutes to sort things out" kind of penalties, and the guy got this little book out of his pocket and started reading for several minutes, occasionally flipping the page like it was "War and Peace" or something.

i went to the game home against the dayton gems and i saw the head offical take a look in the rule book. it that usual because i was always taught the refs should know what to call when they see it.
