Tailing the Komets

Management wrapping up details

Komets General Manager David Franke said he hopes to announce the third goaltender coming to training camp by Wednesday, but it won't be Larry Sterling.

``I have no interest in him,'' Franke said.

Other than Artem Podshedyalov who will be in Fort Wayne by Monday night, everyone else should be here in time for Sunday's team meeting. Podshedyalov has a meeting at the embassy in Moscow on Saturday.

It shoulds like more than half the team is already in town and could be skating at Canlan over the next few days. Players like Dustin and Bryant Molle, Chris Auger, Todd McIlrath and Dan LaPointe are already here and Brett Smith and

Bennefield is here. Auger is here. Lapointe is here. McIlrath is here. Molle bros are here. Beech and Smith in tomorrow.

We're gettign everyting organziaed. All the paower work we have to do. Insruance standpoint, TC roster. Right now there's nothing going on with players other than the last goalie. That stuff is over with. Now it's just new taking care of any problems if they get stopped over the boarder.

Larry is playing for the Elmira Jackals so I'm sure it is he who has no interest in playing for FW, not that the Frankes don't want him. We can't have him come here and give Boucher a run for his money on the starting goalie slot. We all know Bouche is FW's hockey God who single handedly won three championships for the Komets. Nevermind it was Larry who deserved the championship for his stellar performance in game 7 in 2008 and in 2010 PH was leading the series until Larry left with a season ending concussion. FW was up against a green goalie playing his first pro games.

What are Larry'S stats at the Coliseum? Does anyone know?

All Larry has done is LOSE to the Komets and for that matter Nick Boucher, Jerseygirl. Ya, Larry played great in game 7 that's for sure, but he also helped squander a 3-1 series lead that year...so it was all for naught.

Larry is a headcase of a chump, he's old and washed up. Being #2 in Elmira for a month or two before he ends up with the BeerCrushing Fayetteville Fireants is right up his alley.

Raise ticket prices to get Nolan as a backup, let's pay the salary cap fee to be over the limit or just cheat like Muskegon did for many years

How in the world did Nolan get released already. Season hasn't started yet. Did ECHL already open camps?

Hold the phone: JungleMonkey is a poor reader. My apologies. Nolan was released by the Chicago Wolves from AHL camp. He will be reporting to the Chicago Express.

I feel really dumb. Amazing what wishful thinking will do to your brain.

Some random thoughts as training camp draws near.

I just ran into George Kotsopolous at the gas station. I always liked George as he was so very kind to my family back in the day. If he were still playing today many, many people would have enjoyed his style of play. He was a center who could skate, handle the puck, pass extremely well, had a knack for the net, and would not back down to anyone. My daughter still has a stick that was autographed by George. It must have been back in '81 or '82. No matter how many troubles he has or where he might be in his life now, I will always count George as one of my friends, and I will always be a friend to him.

Likewise as I picked up my season tickets yesterday, I was helped by Ruth Weigman. I have known Ruth for about thirty years now. She was a receptionist for Indiana Michigan Power in the One Summit Square building, Over the years as I would call upon the Purchasing Department, Ruth and I always talked about Komet Hockey. She is a wonderful lady who has given so much to the Komets, players, and the team. Say "hello" to her when you are picking up your ST package and give her a bit of thanks to acknowledge her love and sacrifices she has made.

I'm not sure that I would have said this a few years ago, but I really enjoy the "experience" of the CHL. It has demonstrated speed, youth, skill, toughness and overall enjoyment. We get to see new teams, get to re-visit old rivalries from players who skated in the UHL and IHL, and provides a larger stage to the world of minor league hockey. The only drawback is the murderous travel of playing in a league that stretches so far to the south and to the west. I long for the day when common sense will organize "AA" hockey in a more sensible manner.

I would like to see the Komets honor Terry McDougall. He was truly one of the best. He would have set scoring records here if he wouldn't have been traded to Flint by Ron Ullyot. What a terrible decision.

Oh well, as I said these are just random thoughts and they wandered over a lot of years connecting Komet hockey to today.

Sterling is a headcase. Simple as that. Not only is he a headcase in the lockerroom, he causes problems off the ice. That's why the Komets aren't interested in him. Is Sterling a good goalie? Yes, but he isn't the guy I want to be playing in net when it comes down to the final wire.

I don't know what Boucher did (if he REALLY did anything) that makes you hate him so much. You can hate a player, don't get me wrong, but for you to continually to downgrade his ability to play the game is just absurd. Boucher is a great goalie. Is he the best? No, but you definitely sound like Quad City fans and their sour grapes against FW. You have a very clouded mind of judgement.

It isn't fair to automatically think that the only reason the Icehawks choked AGAIN was because Sterling was out with a boo boo. There are 5 other guys out on the ice in front of the other goalie. Just like I don't believe Boucher is a "God" (like you put it), in that he single handly won 3 championships. You can't kid yourself though thinking that Boucher didn't play a huge part when he came in to relieve Reiter during the first series they came back and won after being down 3-1....

PinkWarrior, you are correct, Larry Sterling is a "headcase". One thing to note is that Jerseygirl has been consistent the past few years about her opinion of Larry Sterling. I'm not sure about your reference to her being a Quad City fan though.

Jerseygirl is correct in pointing out that without the concussion Sterling received in the playoffs, I too, doubt that the Komets could have come back to win. It was devastating to their team to lose him when they did. It is rediculous to compare or describe a concussion to a "boo boo". Your reference as it being a boo boo tends to discredit your argument and weaken your points.

While Sterling most likely will never play for the Komets, he has a better chance to be here than Tim Haun.

just a shout out of congratulations to the U-16 ft wayne phantoms. they won the big bear tournament in indianapolis this past weekend. they scored 2 goals in the final 47 seconds to tie , then after 2 overtimes ,won in a shoot out in the championship game sunday. they defeated teams from chicago and st louis to advance to the championship. says alot about our rich hockey history here and the strength of our youth programs. WAY TO GO PHANTOMS!

Alan, I was being sarcastic when I said "boo boo" but say what you want. And if you don't know what I meant about my comment about her being like a Quad City fan, you are living in a hole.

Who is this Pinkwarrior person slamming on Alan? This is the first time I have seen their posts on here. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but Alan has some of the best and most levelheaded posts on here. His opinions are well thought out and informative. And I am sure like everyone else, including me, he is just as ready for the puck to drop and get the season started. Its been a long off-season. Only 18 more days until opening night and I for one am ready to get the Jungle rockin again.

JerseyGirl hates Bouch because alot of people think he is a god when it comes to being a goalie. Also when Bouch got more playing time in the playoff instead of Tim Haun she also got upset! She also got upset when the komets scored so much on LARRY when she had his jersey on that night last year!

Everyone has their own favorites, i get that. I also think that if it wasnt for Larry gettin hurt we would have been doomed. But remember who it was who lost 3 straight to Bouch, it was LARRY and he wasnt hurt that year!

Nolan also lost to Bouche, as did Joel Martin, Sebastien Centomo and a couple others...I just laugh when people want the team to go after guys like Martin and Nolan when the guy we have here has done the job just fine over the years. And Snuf, there's no way the Komets would trade Boucher. I'm pretty sure the brass see him the same as guys like Chaulk, Guy, Drouin etc. He stays in town year round now, I think the Fort is home now??
