Tailing the Komets

Matt Krug coming to town

He's been loaned to the Komets through Elmira of the ECHL from Chicago of the AHL. He cannot get enough games in to play in the ECHL playoffs, but he can get in the three games necessary to play in the CHL playoffs. He has to play a certain amount of games in the AHL playoffs in order to be sent down to the ECHL at this time of the year, and he's only played one game up there. It's unli

He played 75 games last year with Muskegon, scoring 14 goals and 47 points. He had six points this year in 61 games with Gwinnett, Chicago and Elmira.

Finally! Someone that will actually throw a body check on a regular basis!

Whoa, wonder who is going to get the boot? With Oconnor, Mirasty, Danko, and DeAngelis out now and possibly coming back sometime soon you would think.

Good pick up for the K's added toughness on the blueline

Here is a Matt Krug jersey :)

Maybe a replacement for Cescon. Same grit and a better handler of the puck. He won't throw the puck blindly across the blueline to nobody in particular as Cescon seems prone to do at least once a game.

OK. To be perfectly honest, I remember him with Muskegon but I don't remember his style of play. Can someone give me a clue?

I guess the important thing is that management saw a weakness and tried to correct it. Good for them. Hopefully they will still try to scour the collegiate ranks to add depth to the team. Maybe a sniper? You never know what can happen if some holes get filled.

Krug plays the same game as Cescon plays the body and will fight when needed. Sorry Snuff I think Cescon has plated well this year and has plyed his role very well. He is a D-man who was brought in to add toughness and clear the front of the net, which he has done. He also is a guy that can do the dirty stuff when needed. I am not sure how the playoff roster will be done, but this gives the K's the ability to dress 7 D-men in the playoff's, perhaps moving Frankie up on a wing if needed. Or the other reason they brought him in is Frankie may not be ready.

Yes I think he did play on the pp for Muskegon last year.

Sgriffith no question about his toughness, grit or willingness to drop the gloves with just about anyone. I'd however trust a blindfolded PC to make better passes than he does. Take his stick away from him and just let him use his body and I'll back him 100% ;)

This should be fun--Krug was Schrock's first fight with the Komets in Pre-Season in '09 and Krug turned him upside down!
Krug will be a good addition!

See that is where some confuse what roles players fit into, his role, IMO, is to clear the zone and play a smart simple game, which I think he does. He is not a PP player, but he is a first line penalty killer. But again that is my take on him and who knows perhaps Cescon is still having issues with vertigo. One thing is for sure they have too many D-men and somebody is going to have to go while somebody is going to have to go on IR unless they are going to start dressing 7 d-men which they have done in the past.

I would rather have Cescon in the lineup making one mistake a game than Warner making one per shift....

Krug was a solid D-man with some snarl. May be too little too late....

Danko will probably get the boot with Warner getting "injured" or dressing as the extra forward/7th d-man...

So does this mean that if Springfield recalls Ratchuk in the next couple of days, he won't be able to come back and play if he doesn't have enough games there?

Mon, 03/21/2011 - 5:42pm

14 goals & 33 assists from a D-man = PP time

JR1
Mon, 03/21/2011 - 5:43pm

He's got enough games, plus he wasnt put on Springfields playoff roster, so it would have to be an emergency situation for Ratchuck to get called up...

I won't ever jump on the Warner bash wagon. He has his flaws as do all minor league players. As a sixth D-man he is as good as just about any other in the league.
Sgrif you might be right about the vertigo. All I know is I see him throwing the puck blindly to nobody way to often....maybe watching Dupuis too much? His clear flaw is lack of puck control. His role may not be to move the puck and it is certainly not to add anything to the offense. But the puck is going to find its way to him and he needs to improve his passing and puck control.
I'd rather see a 25 year old making these mistakes than a 40 year old. That is for sure.

You wont jump on the band wagon for a terrible D-man in Warner; but you immediately started the bus and got behind the wheel for Chaulk??? LOL, your just trying to stir the poo, Snuff....

yep, but snuff isn't afraid to get on the dupuis hater train.

Everyone needs to pull off their orange glasses when it comes to a few players.

Not at all.
If Warner is the reason this team fails then it is flawed to begin with. To me he is a very small piece of the problem. It would be like blaming the Colts not winning the Superbowl on the few dropped passes by their 5th wide receiver. If that receiver is in during the playoffs in a key situation then I blame the coach and not the player.
Warner is what he is, a AA fifth or sixth defenseman. You don't find above average AA fifth or sixth defenseman. He makes the same mistakes every other guy in his slot have made for the last 15-20 years. He is simply the chosen target by the bash wagon.

There are plenty of you out there to call out all of Warners faults. I see no need to pile on to it. So in that sense I am not contributing to the stir.

And he just hated on Cescon too.

He hates veteran players.

Chaulk, Dupuis, Cescon.....

Who else do you hate General Manager Snuff?

Won't hate on Warner....way to take a stand.

Krug being added does not mean he is taking Cescon's place. We have had a huge hole in the defense when you have to put anyone with Warner. Warner is seen multiple times a game skating in the offensive zone behind the net, and leaving a guy like Ratchuk or Molle back by themselves trying to kill a 3 or 2 on 1 breakaway.

If Krug comes in and plays sound tough defense, he could be one of our best.

This won't be popular.....but you could throw Warner and Ratchuk in a barrel and pull one of them out, and you would have the same as the one still in the barrel. That is how both have been playing of late. Not very good defense, and not making good decisions with the puck.

Defense wins championships.....and the Defense needs to defend and make good decisions with the puck. Period.

Mon, 03/21/2011 - 7:06pm

And I see a flaw in that reasoning....You say Warner is a small piece of the puzzle???

He is on the #2 Powerplay Unit......

He is on the Penalty Kill.....

And he is on the ice more than any other Defenseman, sometimes double shifted, and sometimes chooses to stay on the ice extra long as lines will change 1-3 times, and BWs stays on the ice.

For such a small role.....Dude is on the ice more than anyone.

Hit are you still reading my posts? I thought after all of the "hating" on my opinions that you would have stopped.

But if you'll tone down the nonsense and stick to the topic I'll be glad to discuss it.

You'll note I used the Colts 5th receiver reference and said that if that guy was on the field in a crucial situation I would blame the coach for putting them in a position that does not suit his talents.

In this case if your statements about hs playing time are true (I don't focus on him so I don't know) then again I'd put some of it on Sims.

However, this is not a championship team. So your fifth/sixth defenseman might play more than they should.

This city has always had its targets. In recent years it was Kiyaga, Townsend, Guinn and the list goes on. A few fans get it in their head that a guy sucks and before you know it the bash wagon becomes all the rage.

And since when does the word "hate" become associated with a hockey player? If we "hate" anyone or anything we are critical of then we might as well just start snorting cotton candy. If you care to share your opinions of Chaulks slash, Cescons cross check, PC not hitting the net and Guy setting them up for a goal coming off the powerplay are different from yours I don't mind reading. But when you start calling me out and starting that nonsense, I use the scroll button.

One last thing for tonight....Cescon is (I believe) 25. I don't consider 25 to be a veteran or someone who has been here too long.

Veterans....Boucher, Thomas, Tab.... have I "hated" on them?
Ratchuk....waste of space......
Molle.... Eh.......

Still have a hardtime understanding why all the blog talk is about our defensemen resulting in komets recent and seasonal woes. The problem with this team is scoring goals.why Keep blaming warner, cescon, dupuis?. When we are one of the lowest scoring teams in the CHL and in komet history
