Tailing the Komets

Matt Krug coming to town

He's been loaned to the Komets through Elmira of the ECHL from Chicago of the AHL. He cannot get enough games in to play in the ECHL playoffs, but he can get in the three games necessary to play in the CHL playoffs. He has to play a certain amount of games in the AHL playoffs in order to be sent down to the ECHL at this time of the year, and he's only played one game up there. It's unli

He played 75 games last year with Muskegon, scoring 14 goals and 47 points. He had six points this year in 61 games with Gwinnett, Chicago and Elmira.

Blake told us that Frankie and BWs would be the greatest offensive/defensive duo since sliced bread.

I am still waiting on Varone to score 40 goals for he K's.

Snuff has told us all before, he is better than us because he doesn't like the players, just the team and the amount of money he can make off of it...that's why he is always on the blog talking about players...oh never mind!

JM...
Both goalies though I'd have liked to see them go with one as a starter and sign a developmental goalie as the backup., Tab, Schrock, O'connor, DeAngelis and (whoa look out) Chaulk....yes as much as you guys don't seem to get it I have always liked him as a player. Doesn't mean I wanted him back this year.

Thanks for the response Snuff. It helps me understand some of your comments when I can take them in the perspective of the kind of player you like.

There is an old saying...
"the popularity of an opinion is not measured by those who agree with it but rather by the total sum of those who validate it with acknowledgement".

In other words, if my opinion bothers/annoys someone, why read it or better yet, why spend respond to it? I'll never understand a silly anonymous blog name wanting to try and put my silly anonymous blog name in it's place. It is silly.

Oh well.

Krug isn't on Chicago's playoff roster either. So what differnce does it makes between him and Ratchuk? Ratchuk could be called up if somebody in Springfield got hurt on Wed night. And Ratchuk hasn't played any games latly. So could he come back? Guess I just don't get it.

Not a bad day at all when you can pick up the 09-10 IHL Defensemen of the year! I am very excited about this, not only can he add offense on the blueline (14 Goals Last Year)....he is pretty tough and hits hard!

I think everyone should put into perspective what Krug may bring to the table for the K's... 14 goals and 33 assists last season was for a VERY offensive minded team in the Lumberjacks who played a very wide open style of hockey... This year he has played around 50 games in the ECHL for 2 different teams totaling 3 goals and 13 assists and a -6... I dont think we should expect him to score goals every game while manning the PP... Lets not build this guy up too much before he even plays one game with the K's....

I have a question since Krug was sent down by an AHL team does he get a 5-game try-out contract and it does not count against the roster? If so then they will not have to make any roster moves until those games are out. I think it is Similiar to what Mirasty and Ratchuk had when they were sent down.

I think you are correct Sgriffith.

First of all, before we get too far ahead of ourselves, Krug needs to get here and play three games to be eligible for the playoffs. Has he shown up yet?

Secondly, assuming he does get here and stays healthy, who do you set down? For all intents and purposes Mironovic is gone. If DeAngelis returns then I think Warner is gone ( unless they make a roster move with Mirasty and only play Warner as an emergency defenseman and a forward at times). How many defenseman do you dress for a game? It all depends on the health of DeAngelis.

There are roster questions that will only be answered after the final regular season game.

For instance. I'm not sure I buy the Mirasty "flu" thing. Seems hard to believe someone could tell Blake that Mirasty was called back up to Syracuse, then find out it was "only the flu." Sorry but something smells to me. ( Need to insert here that I'm not questioning Blake's reporting, only the source or the reasoning of the source who told him. It just seems "odd" but if I'm Blake, I do exactly the same thing). I'd be interested to know if anyone's seen Mirasty.

Assuming Krug shows up and DeAngelis is on the playoff roster, who do you sit? How many defensemen do you carry? ( If DeAndelis is on the roster, you almost have to carry an extra defenseman as an "insurance policy" against further injury)

It's time to let O'Connor out of IR pergatory. He's certainly well rested by now and sometimes can be the best player on the ice.

I'd still try to find two collegiate players. Get those sources working and phones ringing. They found one years ago in Jamie Milam.

Even as frustrating as this team has been this year, I still think they are very close to being something special. I know that must seem funny but I think with a tightened defense, a little offensive spark from a college player or two, the fabric of the team would only get stronger.

Congratulations, Franke family, to addressing the needs of the defense with a hard nosed, tough defenseman. He will take some of the pressure off the defense, add toughness to the team, and be able to play on the PP if needed. Now, please find that skilled, slot filling forward from the college ranks.

Some answers to the roster questions:

3/20/11 Drouin placed on 10 day IR.

3/22/11 O'Connor activated from IR.

3/22/11 Mironovic waived.

Bottom Line is Warner needs to go he turns the puck over to much and never gets back to play defense

Warner=turnover=goal for the other team
