Tailing the Komets

Matt Syroczynski returning to the Komets

He gets his wish to be back at practice tomorrow in time to see Mitch Woods barf on the ice. Late last week Matt asked the Norfolk Admirals to either sign him for the rest of the season or release him so he could return to the Komets. He had been living in a hotel with a roommate. Matt played

Also, the protected roster deadline is Thursday. I was told the wrong date.

Is this uncommon for someone at the AHL level who is kind of on the fringe between leagues to ask for a definitive decision one way or the other concerning them so they can go back down a league for a sure job the rest of the year? All of your hockey super-experts who are always telling the rest of us we don't know anything about hockey, here is your chance to shine because I honestly am uneducated in this case. I feel like such a "casual" fan hahahaha!

Alan, I think this type of question is right up your alley.

Living in a hotel with a roommate for a month and a half... doesn't sound like what I expect from an AHL club.

Glad to have Syro back.

Frozen: I'll take it on, the situation is not that uncommon. But usually there would be a player agent involved. It would appear Matt was on the bubble with the AHL club and knew it. If he stayed there past the Thursday deadline he could have been cut the next week with no place to play. The Admirals did him a favour by cutting him loose and allowing him to play. If they had plans for him, he would still be there. But, they know where he is if something changes for next year. In most of these cases there are no hard feelings, it's business.

Mike: Thanks for the reply. What you're saying really makes sense, I just wasn't sure how common or uncommon it was. Thanks again!

FW, I just got that, you are welcome. Canadian eh? Don't hold it against me. I know there will be some discussion on what will happen with the roster. However, with the Komets looking a little more like what everyone is used to, Matt coming back should add even more momentum. I'll have to look ahead to see when we can get down for some games.

Lord only knows this will fire up the AHL vs. IHL argument again, but look at Matts numbers, 30 games in the A with 6 goals and 10 points, with only 5 games in the I he has 5 goals and 8 points... Lets hope for a similar finish to the season from Matt

Hello Frozen Water. You stated, "All of your hockey super-experts who are always telling the rest of us we don't know anything about hockey, here is your chance to shine because I honestly am uneducated in this case." Then, "Alan, I think this type of question is right up your alley." C'mon Frozen Water, when have I ever told another person they don't know anything about hockey. I can't remember the number of times I have said that if people disagree with me, fine. I learn from hearing others opinions and considering them. I think that Blake might have a better answer than me. My own opinion is that I think it may be unusual that a player makes it PUBLIC that he goes to a GM and expresses a desire for a release. I'm sure it happens, though. This particular instance may be unique however. Not having a regular contract (nor having Norfolk committ to one) and living in a hotel has got to get old. His pal, Mitch Woods, is joining the K's tonight. He may think he needs more playing time than he's getting from Norfolk. And, quite frankly, he did a pretty good job in the AHL, so good he probably will get a try out next year in another AHL camp. He has proven himself. Maybe it is a combination of all those things and maybe it is none of those things. One thing about this is he is coming back and that will strenghten the Komets. Maybe Blake knows if he will stay here or how it was left with Norfolk.....also I think the date that Blake mentioned for the "protected roster" is the IHL date for the qualifying offers to expire.

So who gets released this week with Syro coming back?

JR
Mon, 01/11/2010 - 4:26pm

Syro coming back is better than any trade the K's could have made... I am assuming that a couple rookies will be shown the door or maybe packaged in a deal for some future considerations or a big D-man with some snarl (if there's one in this league they would want)...

This is for the rest of the season. They've got a clean IR so maybe nobody has to get released. Maybe one of the guys who is playing with a nagging injury can take the time to heal.

Not funny, Jerad....not funny! I might have to puke on the ice myself if that happened! LOL....and Alan, I'm thinking that Frozen Water was joking and that you may have taken him too seriously. You take lots of things too seriously....this from someone (me) who does the same too many times herself. Frozen had a good question, and I'm glad someone answered it for us! Syro coming back is a surprise to me, honestly....knowing he was doing decently there, even if not getting much ice time, I never thought he'd ask to come back, but that shows what a great place we are, eh? The end of January cannot come fast enough for me. Got my tickets today for that Jan 29th game. Woods better be ready for it!! I know a couple excellent Youth league coaches who could get his butt in shape if he needs a little extra help....

Alan: No, no, no, I was not intending that as addressing you. When I was writing that post, I thought to myself you may take it like that so I put the space in the middle of saying that, and addressing you. You are correct, you have never been one of the people who like to throw your hockey expertise over people's heads, at least I've never taken it that way. For that reason, along with the good material you usually include in your posts, I purposefully broke my post into two parts because I wanted to know what you thought, as opposed to one or two other gurus who tend to throw their knowledge around and usually don't seem to back up their thoughts like you tend to.
All that being said, thank you for your answer to my question, along with all of the others. When something like this that I haven't heard of happening before comes around, I like hearing what everyone has to say about it. Thanks to all. I really think with the way the play has turned on lately, along with Syro, the pieces are starting to come a lot closer to falling together.

If history is any indication my best guess is that somebody will be put on the i.r. Im sure there's a few guys who would sit for a couple weeks rather than being cut loose altogether.Possible candidates are Huk(hope not),Warner,Varone I would imagine. We've got the spots why not use them

Is paranoia the special of the day on here?? Everyone thinks I'm calling them out. chuckitt, if I had something to say to you I would've addressed you, believe me. And what is this "us" stuff? How many people are you speaking for on here? Were you elected to speak for the rest of the company? (Gettysburg reference for those of you who are movie junkees).

Before anyone else freaks out, I apologize for asking a question and including a joke in it. Sheesh, I'd think with the winter and harsh cold some people would have their thicker skins on. Is this a hockey crowd or a Brownies meeting??

Thanks Frozen Water. I appreciate you coming back and helping me understand stuff. I would like to tell Blueline Baby that I really am just the opposite of "taking things too seriously." If you knew me personally, I think you would find someone who likes to have fun, kid around, and am a loyal friend to people. Sometimes I feel that when one has to express themselves by print only, one loses the precious ability of being able to see someone's eyes, hear the tone of their voice, or see the facial expressions that help communicate when people discuss topics. A blog can be a cold way to communicate. Anyway, Blake has indicated that Syro is here to stay for the rest of the season and that is a real positive thing......to Blueline baby, once you told me that I "confused" you because I stated that, even though winning, the team was putting too much pressure on the defense to consistently allow only two goals per game. That opinion of mine has been backed up a number of ways since then, but none so plainly, when on New Years Eve, Al Sims expressed his New Years resolution of "finding a way for this team to score more goals."

chuckitt: Is that like typical bloggers who can't take two seconds to break out a dictionary and learn how to spell? See, that is how you take a shot at someone, you call them out, then say what you have to say. Again, feel free to make it into something it isn't. As I said earlier, it wasn't a shot at you initially. Maybe you're bored at home and have to make things up to occupy your time, I don't know. If you want, feel free to continue. Unlike some, I'm not going to throw a fit about it on here. I'll just laugh it off and spar with you for a bit before I get bored and move on. You may want to read what Alan said about not being able to see facial expressions and hear tone of voice though, there is a lot of truth in what he wrote. I really don't think you should play the better than thou role though, you've went after people several times. It's been awhile, but it has happened.

In any event, I'm also glad Syro is back. It really sounds like he wants to be in Fort Wayne and I couldn't be happier. This team is really starting to turn into a force.

If being unsatisfied with the lackluster way the team was playing up until the 1st of the year and being realistic in my posts is considered negative, then count me in the nelly group...

my only point was tht frozen water you were looking for trouble. if you had a question you needed answered then you should just ask instead of prefacing it with you hockey experts and so on. if you thought it was funny, it really wasnt. we all on here are after the same thing and thats the ihl and the komets are successful. all i did ws try to answer your out of line comments and then all you did was attack me personaly. there are many on here who know a ton of facts but the reason to be here is to express opinions so the way you stated your question was an attack to begin with not merely asking a guestion..........nuff said go komets

You take things way too seriously. I learned after my near-death experience (which from what I've read on here sounds like we went through the same type of illness) was not to take things seriously and have fun with life. If you scroll up and read that Blueline got the reference, you may understand better. Maybe you were not reading the blogs while you were ill, but a couple people made fun of several of us on here for posting comments and said that we basically knew nothing because we were simply "casual hockey fans". I want to say it was Blueline and I that was addressed to, but it may have been Andrea. I don't remember who said it and I really don't care. It wasn't you, which is why I didn't address you. Not sure why you're hanging onto this so tightly, maybe that's just how you are, and that's fine. Maybe you have a guilty conscience? I have no idea. I really don't think anyone on here needs you to defend them though. Everyone on here seems to be big boys and girls and very capable of speaking for themselves. However, I know I cannot stop you from dragging this on even longer just so you can have the last word, so please feel free to continue. It was a JOKE referencing back to a prior comment (or as you try to inflate it, attack) against me and a couple of other bloggers on here and I was laughing it off and having fun with it, which I have the right to do. Enjoy life, enjoy crying about blogs, enjoy the Komets, enjoy whatever it is that floats your boat. I wish you nothing but the best. Happy blogging to all and GO KOMETS :) :)
