I asked Komets General Manager David Franke today if he was concerned about the team's toughness:
``We've got Mac and he's one of the toughest guys in the league. Kaleigh has done a great job when he's had to go. Stayzer has been very willing. He hasn't always been successful, but he's been very willing. I wouldn't mind seeing Bert pick it up a little bit more. It's kind of tough for Mac to fight 6-4, 6-5 guys all the time.
``I'm not worried about the toughness area. If that becomes an issue, we'll address it. The only thing I'm worried about now is scoring goals. That's our biggest concern right now. If we can start averaging 3, 4 goals we're going to win a lot of games.''
Comments
Asked about the MacMillan fight, Franke said, ``Was it an intent to injure? I don't think so. There's no way.''
Most of the tough guys are 6'3" or bigger=Goulet,Sawyer,Gomez,Spiller,Parker,Rechilez,Smith
Not worried about toughness??? Who you crapping man?
Mac is it. Stayzer is damaged. Bert is a lover (hugger) not a fighter. And Schrocky Balboa has vanished.
I agree we need more scoring right now.....but this team gets taken behind the wood-shed by everyone. Our skill guys get elbowed, gooned, beatdown, and the our Goalies get ran and taken advantage of.
Plus, this team doesn't like to make body-checks or take away the front of the net.
Isn't this the new IHL where fans are to be treated with Old-Time physical Rock-em-Sock-em tough and physical hockey every game you go to???
Just wondering.
I am going to give the Ks some credit here. At the last game in Ft., there was hitting, checking, etc. even by PC! Maybe is wasn't enough or as much as you would like to see, but it was a lot more than the average had been.
My concern is that Schrock is lost in the shuffle. I hope he finds his way to the top again soon because he can surely shake things up. (This is not to say he is not hustling because he surely is...)
Hysterical... If you are going to market the IHL as old school and have rules that differentiate your league from every other league in North America, then as the Top Governor in the league, please follow through.. Yeah, Mac is a tough customer, but asking him to fight these giants night in and night out is ridiculous. Seems to be the same line of nonsense every year..
Bloomington- Sawyer 6-6 240, Gomez 6-2 210, Spiller 6-5 230
Muskegon- Krug 6-2 220, Smith 6-4 225, Big Snake 6-0 220 (yeah, 220...) Lawmaster 6-1 210....
Port Huron- Kostadine 6-2 215, Bray 6-3 215
Dayton- Parker 6-3 215
Flint- Cecson 6-2 195, Scarlato 6-1 225
QC- Goulet 6-5 250, Rechlitz 6-4 195
Fort Wayne- MacMillan 5-10 195, Schrock 5-11 190
I see a pattern forming...
Blake thanks for asking the question of Mr. Franke, but thought you were going to ask Bert? Just kidding...I think Franke pretty much sum it up. In some ways he expects Bertram to pick it up in that department so Mac or Stayzer are not the ones always doing it. In some ways I am afraid Stayzer will become the next Legualt with the IR shuffle.
There is always Tedstone.....
JM: Very telling list you have going there. Wow, that puts it in perspective doesn't it? That's nuts.
Not at all concerned about toughness yesterday...
.....today they announce Mitch Woods as the new Komet coming to town.
Hmmmmm.
