Tailing the Komets

mike20barrett

Mike Barrett, also known as "Mike in Toronto" on Blake Sebring's Tailing the Komets blog, will be Wendy Bartle's guest for this week's edition of "Fans in the Stands", which will air during the first intermission of the Komets Game of the Week broadcast. Mike, who is a longtime friend of Komets forward Colin Chaulk's family, was visiting the Summit City with Chaulk's mother and father-in-law. Though he only attends a few Komets games a year, he follows news on the team closely and is as true a fan as any. Mike will share stories regarding his relationship to Chaulk as well as discuss his views on how the sport of hockey is perceived in the US as opposed to Canada -- and how that may be changing. He will also talk about his own hockey team, the Milton Oldstars, and the charities their play has benefited over the years. Remember to tune in to Comcast channel 55 or Verizon Fios channel 25 on Wednesday, March 31 at 8 PM or on Thursday, April 1, at 4 AM or Noon to learn more about Mike, his association with Chaulk, and the ever-changing landscape of hockey in North America.

Not for sure,we used to get up there once or twice a year. But with Columbus in the NHL, not as often.Love that Canadian beer.

So did you go to Maple Leaf Gardens? They serve that good beer in the Zanzibar. Obviously not the type of place you would take the family for dinner. However, when you talk to folks who would come in to TO for games the Zanzibar seemed like it was in the Chamber of Commerce literature gauging by how often it was mentioned. LOL.
FYI. The University I attended (Ryerson) is going to be playing in the old MLG. Ryerson and the U of T are a stones throw from the Arena. Our largest grocer is going to refurbish the building and get this, the ice surface is going to be on the third floor. Alumni games are going to take on a whole new importance. We can't get two full teams now. We will be able to have a six team tourney once the team moves. Go Komets.

So, mightbite, the grocery store is going to be on the old MLG floor and the rink is going to be on the third floor above it with seating for about 5,000 . I don't know if the old building can take that kind of reno. Should be interesting.

Okay, if anyone tried to watch this, don't blame me. I was going by what I was told. Will try to find out what the heck happened tonight. &#%@*^

Mike, I was disappointed that the interview didn't go on as planned. There must have been some big malfunction as the game shown was the one with Flint on February 27th. Also it didn't come on the air until 8:20pm instead of 8pm. At 4am this morning it didn't come on either. I was looking forward to listening what you had to say. The next time you come to Fort Wayne, give me a heads up on the blog and come over to 208. We have conversed through the blog but I would like to meet you.

In fact, that invitation is extended to all of you who blog on here.

Thanks, Alan, I will take you up on that. We are hoping to come down for a playoff game or two. As for the interview, Wendy grilled me pretty intensely. I may have said something really off base and they had to can it. LOL.
Keep the faith Komet fans.

Tape got misplaced and it will be run in the very near future, possibly even Saturday. Otto's going to let me know and I'll let you know as soon as I know.

Okay. Just don't forget to let us know when Otto knows and lets you know what he knows. ;)

Actually, I asked about that tonight too. My impression was that it probably wouldn't be airing, at least not right away. But he did mention that they were going to start showing games on Saturday nights (and Sunday mornings) soon. I hope you are right about it airing in the near future.

Yes there are errors commited and this was caused by someone misplacing the tape of the game. I am personally sorry this happened but when you have so many people involved in this getting on the air "stuff happens". Games will start showing on Saturdays next week..stay turned as Otto will let Mr. Sebring know when. Thanks to all that watch us!
