Thanks for the timely article, Blake. Now why am I doubting that the nay-sayers will believe a word of it?
Flint and Port Huron's owners could buy the whole league if they chose.
They maybe able to buy the whole league but when you see your own money going down the drain like in Flint, then at some point you have to decide to either move the club or fold the tents. Flint is in such bad shape they fire their broadcast man. Can you imagine the K's firing Bob Chase to cut cost? And by they way those attendance figures for Flint and PH are a little suspect. Flint had maybe 600 to 800 people for their Thursday game and PH is not much better. How can the IHL expect to attract players in those cities when they have no fan base? How about our own K's playing in front of 7500+ and then going to Flint or PH and playing in front of 800 people? I say have Flint and PH play all their games against FW in FW and split the gate for their schedule home games against the K's then they would make money. Franke can sugar coat it all he wants to, but those two clubs are in serious trouble and so is the IHL as a whole.
You can look at all the businesses in this bad economy and they are hurting. It seems to me that if you dont promote good like the Komets do that you will not make it good anywhere...you have to put in to get back good and the Komets are very good at this. We get great press coverage from Blake and Justin from the papers. The local channels cover good and we are the only team in this league that tapes a game for broadcast the following wednesday. When i came up with this idea in 1988 the Frankes were very agreeable as they know what is a good business deceision. In short the rest of the league needs to show some imagination and invest in the product or its lights out. Ask GM FORD CHRYSLER banks or any other failing business. WE need to be happy with what we have here in Fort Wayne because youm can see that of all the other teams in minor hockey with the exception of the Hershey Bears, are not doing something right. Personally I think that the whole world economy is in deep do-do and if and when it all comes tumbling down 1929 will look like a holiday compared to what we may face!!! Having said that let us support our team and hope and pray that we dont have to worry where our next meal is coming from...let alone worry about whether or not Flint or Port Huron survive. Ok now down off my soapbox and thanks for your support of the omet hockey Game of the Week!!!!!!!
Oops typo error.....make that the Komet hockey game of the week. Fat fingers here!!
