Mississippi goes to SPHL

The Mississippi RiverKings announced today that the hockey team will operate as a member of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) during the 2011-2012 season, which begins in October.

“Our goal has always been to build a winning hockey team in a manner that produces positive impacts in our community over and above the entertainment value to area hockey fans,” said Lanier Hurdle, a board member.  “This change will let us build relationships with teams closer to northwest Mississippi, and build interest in hockey in the region.”

The RiverKings join SPHL teams in Augusta and Columbus, GA, Fayetteville, NC, Huntsville, AL, Knoxville, TN, Lafayette, LA, Biloxi, MS and Pensacola, FL.  “The SPHL is a better regional fit for the RiverKings,” said Ab Mattice, General Manager/Governor for the team.  “It will create rivalries with teams within driving distance of DeSoto County.  We ask our loyal fans to continue to support the RiverKings here at the DeSoto Civic Center and on the road.”

Colorado had 6 players better than Reaney. Lets focus there. Milam will be available. The Bugs have a championship roster. Reaney is far from one of the top 20 players available.

Agreed JM; but we've seen in the past that championship teams are not always constructed of All-Stars or the 20 best available players alone (the last few IHL2 Muskegon teams come to mind in that area)... You have to have the role players and character guys to put you over the top...

Reaney fits that second group nicely and isnt afraid to do the dirty work...

The Komets have had plenty of A-hole players come play for them including one of the dirtiest and cheap players I have ever seen in Andy Bezeau...

Regardless of who they are, I think the Frankes will put together a very competitive and complete hockey team for next season.... They rarely (if ever) have layed an egg 2 season's in a row...

Actually, he would be joining us.

When the CHL folds and we join Pickard in the ECHL (which will make him look like a visionary for bailing on the IHL2, as opposed to just being the jerk some on here keep calling him), we will be joining them. And I'm not saying Pickard isn't, but he called that move correctly.

I didn't do the number of games this year. In the first round, I neglected to add that to my predictions, and by the time I decided I should've added that, the first game in each series had already been played. Eh, it's only used as a tie breaker anyway.

I predicted Vancouver would win, so I'm sticking with that officially. Unofficially, I can see it going either way. Using whatever Jedi mind powers I have... I see... Swedish twins hoisting the silverware. Sure would be nice to see the Sedins actually be the Sedins one more time before the season ends.

Nutmeg? TWO steak and cheese sandwiches? Awesome. Reminds me of that one scene in the movie Anchorman: "You pooped in the refrigerator? And you ate an entire wheel of cheese?! I'm not even mad; I'm amazed!"

Reaney was the one who scored the game and series winning goal against the K's last April. So he won't be joining the Flyers next season? Hit said orange and black... oh, THAT orange and black. ;)

Reaney either goes to Europe or stays with th Rush.

Spent some time with a few Canadians last night. They seem to be looking at this series to some extent as Olympics II. I'm not sure how many people north of the border are. Now one of them is from Vancouver so I can understand his support. Two are from Toronto (no, Mike wasn't one of them) and the fourth is from Montreal. They are looking at a defeat of the Bruins as another defeat of the US and more bragging rights for them. Of course I understand that.

I was already rooting for Boston, partly because I use to go watch them play, but also for the same reason in reverse. Go Bruins!! Let them have the gold, we'll take the cup!

mightbite: Gotcha. NUTmeg. It's just that I've wanted to name a dog Nutmeg for a while -- ever since I saw Disney's "Hercules". Of course, I've wanted to name a dog Huan for even longer. (FYI for the Silmarillion impaired: http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Huan )

Geez, the Canucks and Bruins must be throwing up right about now.
