I place the higest personal value on mine. It means more than any other piece of jewelry I own. For a couple of (some might say) silly reasons. They won it on my birthday and I was hospitalized and died three weeks before they won that cup. I am very proud to wear it. I am very proud to have been a part (even in a small way) of that championship.

I did have a funny experience happen with it. You bloggers will have a good laugh. I was sitting waiting on a plane in Orlando, FL. I was reading aTony Dungy's book and a little boy maybe 8 or 9 years old came up and said "Mister is that a super bowl ring?" His mother called him away and when I said it was all right he rurned and I took it off and handed it to him. I told him is was a "Turner Cup" Championship ring. It was for a hockey championship. He replied OH! and handed it back. He couldn't have cared less after he found out it wasn't for the "Super Bowl". Absolutely brings you back to reality.

Nice Story Dschebig. But did you say you died?

On another note. Do you suppose Mark Versteeg-Lytwnn got more than 1 ring to fit his name on it?

Chad- Yes I did say died! Konstantin Shafranov had the same problem with his name. Neither one fit on the IHL score sheet unless you print real small. I would be more than happy to share that experience with you or anyone else. I truly feel blessed. I was at the game the night I got out of the hospital. If my wife hadn't drove me there I would never have gotten home after the game.

Dschebig... Wow. Okay, that's obviously a really long story. Maybe I'll get to hear it someday. Suffice it to say that I'm just glad you're still with us.

Cute story with the boy, though. Isn't that just like a kid? :D

We are all happy you're here Schebig, you do kind of look majestic like Jesus with that white beard and hair, I just hope you forgive me for picking on you and your twin Wilford Brimley all summer. I'd hate to be sent south for that. Went to the doc today and got some new meds, these should be a lot of fun to blog with. Down 55 Lbs since the 2008 checkup and am guessing the cohlesterol comes in about 117. Had to drop trow too, I won't go there though! Its important for men to stay on top of their health but if you want to drench your baked potater in butter start taking lipitor! Man the dr yells at me when I tell him I do that.

Dschebig, I want to add my thoughts as well. I'm certainly glad that your still here with us. I have enjoyed reading your thoughts on the different topics. I'm sure that your health "experience" has given you a totally different outlook on things. Without knowing your story I think it is safe to assume that the medical world was just one part of the miracle that has provided you with a longer life. We are all richer for that. Someday I would like to meet you in person to say "hello" and to introduce myself.... on another topic, for those of you with Comcast On-Demand, they are playing four short clips of old-time Komet hockey. The clips include players Eddie Long, Len Thornson, Reggie Premeau, and others. Hilliard Gates and Colin Lister explain the rules of hockey. It was fun to watch and if you look closely you will be able to spot the organ (which I miss). Lots more including a narration by Dan Kelly regarding the IHL. Check it out.

Hey Blake, I put a comment in to respond to Dschebig. It did not appear. Is it lost somewhere. I remember some time ago that this happened and it went to your "junkmail" file or something. Could you search it and release it. thanks.

I agree with you. The call was kinda weak.

This reminded me of the Dan Ronan hip check from years back. It still puts a big smile on my face when I think of it

Here is the hip check in question:

Alan--Thank you very much for your comments. I am really easy to find. You find me outside the Komet dressing room between each period. I am the "tiny" guy with the white beard. In fact this halloween I am coming to the game dressed as one of the IHL off-ice officials.

I'm going as a split personality since I have to wear not one, but two costumes. ;)

As far as the hip check... I must say that I didn't realize that's what a hip check was. Goes to show how often you see them these days.
