Bossier-Shreveport coach Scott Muscutt: ``
It was probably not the kind of hockey that either team wants to be playing at this time of the year. I thought it was sloppy. It was a lot of odd-man rushes one way, and odd-man rushes the other way. There just wasn't a whole lot of flow to the game. It's a bouncing puck out there, not that that's an excuse or a reason for either team. I'd love to see these two teams play on a good sheet of ice because when they came to our building, our ice was s---, too. When we come here, their ice is s--- and I think both of these teams can really put on a nice little hockey game for the fans if they played on a nice sheet of ice.

There was a gentleman originally from Columbus, IN, and now residing in Bloomington, IN, that sat next to us on Weds. One of the first things he remarked about was that our ice was too soft. He had played and coached hockey for 40 years, and he is currently coaching a pee wee team. He said the ice at Canlan was great, but the ice at the Coliseum was way too soft.
Looked like they were playing in slush out there...I'm sure the Mad Ants and their 4 fans don't have any issues with their court tho.
Nature of the beast
And as the weather warms up, it's just going to get worse
That's what I'm afraid of. Siwtching back and forth from basketball to hockey every night means it's the consistency of shag carptening right now.
Actually, I'm pretty sure my forehead is smoother.
We should look into that...I bet we could fit the rink there. Sorry, you put it on the tee!
The coliseum could always put the Mad Ants in the Expo Center like they did with IPFW for a few games this year...It'll never happen but that would definitally help the ice.
And make the Mad Ants games look less empty.....LOL
JK.
Would love to see a Zamboni on Blake's Dome......LMAO
The expo center would be a good fit for the Ants..It would make the crowd of 158 look better and it would hold the sound better and make it louder, thus giving them a better home court advantage...PLUS they'd have a great pick of open dates. Who's their GM? I'll have him sold on it in no time..It'll be a win win for all involved.
It's Randy Brown's Preogative.
Don't be cruel Randy Brown.
Maybe Randy Brown could make the Ants a new edition to the Expo Center?
New Edition...I got it!
I think its also about 27 degree's below zero inside Canlan (last time I was there...which I like) and its nice and cozy in the coliseum...
I talked to a "mudbugs" fan,she said they took a train to Bloomington then rented a car. They really liked our stadium & team.Wished us the best in playoffs, untill we played them. Also could not beleive how Mirasty could take a punch.
Seriously, is there any reason why Randy Brown could not put the Ants in the Expo Center?
Just build a new arena for hockey downtown. Let the county run their building with knife shows and wedding extravaganzas..
A new 8500 seat arena downtown is the ticket.
How about 5100 seats so we can start working on Colorado's consecutive sell out streak...lol
Changing from basketball to hockey can be done without sacrificing ice quality (for the most part). Many NHL teams share their arena with NBA teams and don't have near the problems that Fort Wayne does (except maybe Washington). The biggest problem is when IPFW may play an afternoon basketball game and then they switch it over to hockey quickly for the Komets to play at night, not allowing the ice sufficient time to set.
Another issue can be the between period promotions the Komets do. They stretch it as long as the possibly can before they have to bring the Zamboni out to make a quick swipe of the ice, sometimes finishing and getting the Zamboni doors closed barely before players are heading onto the ice. By cutting down on the length of intermission promotions, they could ideally allow 3-4 minutes for the ice to set after the Zamboni is done, before the players return to the ice surface. However, there is no way they cut back on any intermission promotions.
Thanks for the update and info on the ice Paul.....errrrrr....I mean Unnamed Source.
I feel frustrated with the ice also. The ice in my drink was way below my standards.
Did you fill out a loan application to buy that drink Alan?
We was in the bar & drink prices rose faster than gasoline
You got ice in your drink? My melted before I got back to my seat. I was robbed! $4 soda and melted ice...not cool...
If there is an issue regarding freeze time of the ice, use two Zambonis like other leagues do. They have at least two, might as well use them and give the players the best possible surface they can have. Also wouldn't effect the broaster boys or light bulbs. I still have no idea who thought it would be a cool promotion to give out light bulbs.
I'm thinking...what he's REALLY mad about...is the quality of the BBQ places on "The South Side of Town".
(STILL can't believe he said that!)
Sure lets mess up the team that has been here for six decades in order to have a b ball game that about 200 people care about. Put the ants elsewhere!
Right who really cares about the Ants? Let them play at some middle school gym where 200 people would be a sellout and then they could brag. Fort Wayne is a Komets town and everything possible that needs to be done should make it that way, including good ice for for the Komets.
Ice Ice Baby!!!!
According to the newspaper, the Ants had over 6,000 fans at their last game; however, I'm assuming that is well above average based on the comments being made.
Watched last quarter of that game on versus last night....it didnt look like 6k. Maybe 4-5k.
