Naurato joins Dayton

The Dayton Gems announced Saturday that left wing Brandon Naurato will be joining the Gems on the road Saturday night as Dayton takes on Fort Wayne at 7:35 p.m.

Naurato was placed on waivers by Fort Wayne on Thursday. Dayton and Naurato came to an agreement early Saturday morning.

In all reality there is not much that can be done this year most likely. It isn't a case of David Franke not seeing the problem. Trust me he sees it. The man hates to lose.
But when you are more than 3 or 4 key players away, and in my opinion they are, you have a hard time improving that much. There aren't that many great players floating around out there and I am sorry folks, Chaulk and or Syro would become a part of the problem, not a solution.
It is time to look towards new talent. The continued desire by the fan base to reach back for the same past they choose to be critical of doesn't do anything for the future of this franchise.
Could Chaulk or Syro perhaps help them squeeze into a playoff position this year? Maybe. But then what? I'd rather see them give some youth a try this season so that maybe you have them for an entire year next year. I am not saying tank the rest of the season. I am saying let a youth movement begin to attempt to dig out of this hole. They might still have some energy left once the climb is complete.

Speaking of Chaulk & Sryo...how many of you would be happy if (when) those two get announced? Im thinking the will help push the team in the right direction but the majority rests on the current players. Other than those two, it doesn't seem like they could find anyone else worth adding at this point of the season.

My hand is up.

I'd take Chaulk and Syro.

Chaulk is coming. I doubt Syro is.

How do I know?

Shafronov said that the new Russian Kid asked for #91.....he was told that #91 will be taken.

Hmmmm.

Hopefully both the Russian and Chaulk help.

My bet (and I would bet the farm) is Chaulk will be in the line up by NYE, and Syro shortly after if not the same time. Here's to hoping the Russian is all he is hyped up to be too...

If/when #91 gets here, will there be enough time to turn things around?

Ok, what 2 vets go bye bye to make room under the salary cap for those 2 (if they should both end up here...)???

That could be anyone's guess. I can tell you who it won't be....71 or 2 :(

The Komets have to play 10 games over .500 to just be .500 the rest of the way.

Wow.

So the old league was a joke but two guys who made their reputations in that league are going to be the answer to the problems in this one?
What am I missing?

I will say this regarding Chaulks number....
It should be sent to the rafters. Not worn by someone else. Great player in his prime. Certainly one of the greats in Komets history. But...history....

But remember Hit, these problems are new and we were crazy when we brought up the SAME issues that STILL plague the Komets, months earlier.

It's not even Christmas yet, you guys just need to wait until after next week and then it'll be on like Donkey Kong!

Chaulk and Syro will not turn this team around. They may provide a brief boost but it doesn't last. Despite what some think, Chaulk is not God...shocking I know

The old league might have been a joke, but the talent certainly wasn't. We've got the talent, it's just that nobody can seem to produce for us this season. Maybe it's karma for all if te success we had the past three years.

They aren't the answer, but it is a step in the right direction. Nobody can expect one or two moves/players to turn this thing around. It has to be a complete effort by everyone currently on the team...and this team is not going to change but a few players at most.

Chaulk made a career of using his stick and his arms to clutch and grab. That won't fly in this league. He is a smart player and may be able to adjust but there is no guarantee.
Syro is retired. He chose to retire. This is not Roger Clemens who retires but gets to come back halfway through the season.
Look these two are certainly more talented than many on this roster. But it is a short term fix.

I asked this on another thread and nobody answered....
Is there anyone on this team that would start for one of the top 5 teams in this league?

The refs will learn of Chaulks ways and watch him like a hawk, if he doesn't QUICKLY adjust to the new rules (which I really don't think he will) he might as well just stay in Italy.

Schrock could POSSIBLY be the onlymplayer that could start elsewhere but I'm not even sure of that at this point

Chaulk brings so much more to the table than you guys give him credit for.

His presence in the Dressing Room will be huge.

He is God.

Duh.

Well Brandon Warner was going to the AHL 3 seasons ago.....Duh.

You can't leave BWs out of this....he is the top dog on this team.

Surely we could trade him and get something super in return.

I agree that he will help in the locker room, will he help on the ice tho? Not so sure

Jared R.
Sun, 12/19/2010 - 1:28am

I'm beginning to think the problem IS in the locker room. Naurato switches teams and instantly starts scoring....same
thing would probably happen with a lot of other players. IMO, we have several that could start for the tip five, if they play to their potential.

Has to be.

No way the talent is that bad. No way.

It has to be leadership on and off the ice.

Chaulk is needed.

Sun, 12/19/2010 - 1:49am

Snuff, right now...no

I don't think that Komets fans are necesarily clamoring for Chaulk; but a player like Chaulk. At no point can I remember anyone ever questioning Chaulks heart or effort. Its that kind of player most fans want to see on this team, they just know of one for certain by name...

There are options for this team.

A) Make real roster moves, and bring in someone different.

B) Do like you are doing right now which is nothing.

C) Coaching Change. So long as it is not GP.

No way was there 7000 at the game tonight. Maybe 5500 tops.

JR1
Sun, 12/19/2010 - 2:20am

1. Do nothing and risk continuing to lose the casual fan...like Hit mentioned anly 5500-6000 actually there tonight.

2. Do something and try to change the negative vibe of this season so far...

I've said, I only think they are 1-2 players or a major culture change away from turning this thing around. Not having a good feeling about that comment anymore. Still hoping they prove me right...lol

What does Naurato's 2 points tonight tell us? His goal was from a tremendous effort from Vaskivou where he totally undressed 2 K's made a third commit to him and then dished off to Naurato for an easy one timer. I havent seen a Komet this year do what Vaskivou did to us; but unfortunately have seen several players do it to the K's this season...

What's the magic cure for this team or am I being too generous by calling them a "team"???

We don't have solid Centers.

PERIOD....

Argue all you want about Curadeau, Francis, and Musselwhite.

They are not as good as Chaulk, Chewy, and Huk. I know Huk is more of a winger....but he was a guy who could playmake and dish the puck. Heck, Shaf was a playmaker. he is 55 though. LOL

We need a couple of playmaking forwards that can set-up the talent we have.

No one on this team can make the special pass or play.

I think we are wasting some good talent thought.

Tab Lardner is a very good player. Being Wasted.

That is one example.

Makes me still think there is a system flaw. And a Parasite in the locker-room perhaps.

Does anyone have a best guess as to why Sims is still here? I am hoping someone has some real educated guesses or insights on this because I know there are tons of sarcastic answers that could be said but I am just debating with my brother on the benefits of the few choices the team has to shake things up that were mentioned above. The players are easier for us to analyze because we see immediate results or complete lack of...coaching is harder to determine. Is he a coach the players respect or enjoy playing for? This is my first true year as a Komet fan so I am not up on these team issues. So besides the typical joking "he is the ultimate and untouchable" just wondering if anyone with more hockey/komet knowledge might have any clues as to why he is still here and why his job seems to be protected.....at least for now. I know we all wonder this but was BN's personal issue with one or more of his teammates??? or was it the coaching or management....I guess his answer would give us alot of insight into what could help turn the team around.

This does make you wonder who was really keeping things on track on and off the ice the last three years. Saturday morning Michael said help is on the way after Christmas so make of that what you will. If I am going to lose, I am going to lose with young players. Start bringing them in one or two at a time. If they are better than what you have, then they stay and someone goes. If not they go and you keep looking for other young players. Enough of the Back to the Future movement. If you don't want to do that, then you must be prepared to write this season off and start from scratch next summer. It looks like it is going to take at least a minor miracle to get this season turned around in time.
