* Bobby Phillips is having shoulder surgery tomorrow to repair a torn labrum. He's also been accepted to IPFW's nursing school. No one seems to know what will mean yet for his chances to play. He believes he might be able to do it, Komets aren't so sure.
* The only players the Komets have not protected on their list are Guy Dupuis, Brandon Warner, Derek Patrosso and Michael Ratchuk and Matt Krug (AHL contracts). Patrosso has taken a job selling pharmaceuticals. The list gets pared to eight by July 18, but players you have already signed do not count against the eight.
* The season will start Oct. 21 and the Komets will likely open at home on Oct. 22.
* Revenue sharing? It has been discussed as an option, but is unlikely to happen and was never seriously considered.
* Bet the house that the playoff format will be eight teams and thus three rounds.
* I've talked to a few more owners on the AA level and they say the average budgets are anywhere from $2.5 millon to $4 million and they'd like them to get to between $1.8 and $2.5 million. There aren't a ton of teams around $4 million, but there are a handful.
* Schedule looks like a mid-July release. Still hearing anywhere from 12-14 teams, but it's getting late.

Darn no Warner!
A torn labrum is a lot better than a torn rotator cuff, he should be good to go in 3 months.
12 to 14 teams is a big drop off.
NFL kick off 93 days.

Boston needs to play Shawn Thornton
Hope Horton will be okay. Didn't get to see it, but it sounded like it was pretty bad.
Looks like Boston is running away with it now in the 2nd with 3 unanswered goals, the last short-handed. Something tells me it won't be Vancouver's night.
Make that 4-nothing. So I guess the only question now is how bad it will get before the end. As always, Boston can score as many goals as they want; they can only win the game once.
Good. Gives the chance to win at home Friday.
Now it's just getting silly with the misconduct penalties.
"The Canucks understand this was not their best outing." Ya think? 8-1 Boston final.
Wendy,
The hit on Horton was bad (I cringed watching it). The replay clearly showed an elbow to the head by Rome. I'm surprised Horton didn't get a broken nose.
Rome got a major and a game misconduct for the hit.
I'm sure the league office will review this one.
Dayton has a $4 million budget. ;-)
I think this is like sitting at Buffalo Wild Wings drinking beer on a Friday with my buddies. They all make 85k a year when asked, yet their check stubs reflect about 40k...
It wouldn't shock me if teams like Colorado and Alaska did since they have to/choose to fly to road games. Most teams are probably between $2.5 and $3.5.
And just so we're clear, I'm asking people, what's the typical AA budget, I'm not asking them if it's between $2.5 and $4 million. They are providing the figures.
Seems reasonable to me. The NHL spends that much and at least on 3 or 4 players each. AA hockey is not the inexspensive thing to get yourself involved with. At least not in this economy! I haven't got a clue about this but I would guess good marketing has to cost $1 mil or real close to it. In that I am including discount tickets, radio and TV spots, Newspaper and Magazine adds. I am sure I have left out other venues. Just one old mans opinion!
Just a thought or two to get the topic back on CHL hockey ( instead of the NHL playoffs which anyone can see on TV).
You all probably realize this but the top four scorers in the CHL were from Odessa and Colorado. I'm sure that Colorado will try to take their players with them to the ECHL but both are veterans. It seems to me that the K's, who have admitted they need more goal scoring, would actively pursue these players.
Regarding budgets, a few years ago the Port Huron team was owned by the City of Port Huron. Any questions regarding a "typical AA" budget regarding expenses, salaries, insurance, etc. would have been a matter of public record and available to the public for inspection.
Alan...More proof if government is involved in it it will fail. They can not promote anything or make a profit. They produce nothing. They turned it over to the Kenny family and he did it right. They figured they take it back or want more money and Kenny not being stupid said good bye! Now they have no team and just one empty building. They do have press box named after "Doc" Emrick, however.
i dont think horton was hearing a who!
hey mightbite, google hockey boxing. its several of hockeys tough guys taking to the ring. thought you might like .

Dayton getting rid of their leading scorer.
Dayton doesn't need him. They already have a dozen guys signed, just not announced.
Dayton will win the conference walking away.
Is it safe to say that BWs will be a Gem in Dayton?
This is a make or break year for Dayton. I think you'll see them overpaying for skilled guys to change the chemistry in that lockeroom. They need to put an entertaining and good team on the ice this year if they have any hopes of making it long term.
Dayton will make a mint off of Fort Wayne and Evansville using their bus
Thanks for the hook-up "off the post" I knew about Brashear.
Oliver Legault to Dayton?????
Syracuse Crunch Mike Ratchuk jersey for sale.

Rapid City to lose Colt King.
Jon Mirasty jersey #3 :)
Rapid City just got better.
I am just throwing this out there....I don't know for sure obviously....
But this seems to me that guys like Colt King that may have been in the upper 1/5 of the team's salary plans in years past for being an entertaining player that takes the body, stirs up crap, fights, and plays his role and might score a few goals here and there, King scores more than others in that position actually as it seems......
MAybe the Salary cap and the amount of money available this coming year to pay players is going to less and maybe teams are looking at a different mix of players rather than spending it on guys like Colt King.
Gotta feeling that alot of guys will be looking for work over seas.
It can't be less because it's the second year of a two-year agreement. Next year they are negotiating a new deal. Then it could possibly be less, but this year you can't go less.
Ok...thanks.
Just a thought.
Gotta think that teams have alot of recruiting and a huge pool to pick from this off-season with less teams in the fold all over hockey.
This might factor in on how rosters are put together....plus I wonder if many teams will once again include a player that does the dirty work and is entertaining.
I for one hope not....I know some of you could care less.
I still like to have a few knuckleheads on the ice to provide a little drama and some hatred between players and between fans and players.
To each his own.
I wasn't clear there....
I like the entertaining players on the ice.
I wonder if teams might not sign those type of guys.
Think about the best games last season....
All games where knuckleheads provided some excitement.
Tulsa.....RC......Colorado.....BS.....
I'd support Colt King coming to Fort Wayne. A gritty late 20's guy who is looking for a cup.
No longer an NHL prospect (which he really was about 10 years ago) but could provide some veteran leadership while giving the team some scoring and some of that physical play that fans love to see.
