Tailing the Komets

Nice save

It's still scoreless after two periods. Komets have out-shot the Mallards 20-10, but David Brown has had a very strong game in net for Quad City.

Boring game again.

I saw maybe 4-5 guys going hard all night.

I know it was a Sunday game after 2 games with an early start after a road game the night before.

I saw Chaulk, Lardner, Frankie, Cescon, and maybe Musselwhite and Francis go hard all night.

I need to see more passion from some of these guys, I'm sorry.

If we were 20-10 right now, I wouldn't worry too much about tonights game and I would say, "we got a point, lets get em next time...."

But this team is in no position to be letting games like this get away.

The powerplay flat out is awful. Worse than awful. Too many guys standing around waiting for someone to go one on one to the net.....we need a different concept out there that puts guys back-door and cycling around.....the shooting range that looks like the half circle like in warm-ups is not cutting it.

Hate to sound negative.....Nick made incredible saves to keep us in this thing. I looked at the scoreboard with 8minutes left in the 2nd and QC had 6 shots on goal.....

Gotta win that game guys. Bottomline.

The Billy Elvis suck up to Warner was a nice touch, and BWs sucking up to Chaulk was even nicer.

The home games this week were terrible.

There was a new player in the crowd sitting with Leo BWs and Schrock.....

Blake, any word on who he is? I hope a defenseman?

I do know he is rooming with Cescon.....

Would appreciate any news on players.

He is a Center. 6-2 198.

Not sure what to say about this. Stats are just ok.

He's been playing in Holland where he had 16 goals and 29 points in 24 games. He's a center who can also play left wing. He'll practice this week, and they'll see if they can get his immigration paperwork done by Friday.

Al Sims said after the game Leo's going to be out for at least two more weeks.

Schrock hopes to play next week, but it depends on getting a leg brace in.

Terrible news on Leo and Shrocky.

Danny Lapointe looked pretty good in the IHL last year, but then again, we've all seen that doesn't transfer to the CHL.

geez, i had no idea schrock was this hurt.

aren't we way over the number of players? especially when people start coming back. legitimately who is on the chopping block?

i would be sad to see anyone go! (even though the ks do need to improve...)

Btw, What a snoozefest. That was almost as boring at Friday night. Worst weekend of Komet hockey I've seen in years.

Over on Ice Chips guys are saying the Komets looked very good tonight and that the hardcore fans should stop whining because that was great hockey tonight. They also think that this was a great effort because Quad City is 2 pts out of 1st and we should appreciate this effort.

Whatever.

My opinion....the Komets should be thumping Quad City like they did last season....and there really is no excuse for the Komets to be playing this bad against teams like Evansville, Quad City, and Dayton.

Sorry if I said something wrong here.

Its true, Hit. The talent on this roster is much better than any of the other IHL teams. The time for excuses has passed. Adding Danny Lapointe isn't the magical move. The culture with this team has to be changed. Either 8 or 9 guys need to be shipped off or a coaching change is needed. Its well past "Christmas" and the magic that allegedly comes with it.. and in case Dave and Al haven't checked the standings, The Komets are in last place. Still.

I know that hockey has changed since the early 90's but the Frankies need to retune from top to bottom. The music SUCKS, play something to pump up the fans like AC/DC or something. The kiss cam is OLD every game, the smile cam is OLD every game. LETS MAKE SOME NOICE SUCKS. If the hockey game was not so freaking boring we would not need to be told to light up the touch tone energy whatever it is. You can hear the ref's talking to players; you can hear the goalies talking to teammates. This hockey SUCKS and till the Frankies hurt in their pocket books by falling attendance it will not change. I think tonight just put me in the stay at home and check on the score every now and then fan. I like hard nose get in your face hockey. My 12 year old nephew plays for the Indy Racers and they have more hitting in one period than the Komets do in a weekend! OK, I

I think that post is what the Frankes will point to when they sell this city on why we are going back to the IHL in 2 years.

They will say that we tryed this thing with the CHL, people didn't care for the style of play....we are going to bring back physical style of hockey that people want to pay money for....

And we will get what you are asking for.

Honestly, after a game like tonight and Fridays game....and even the Dayton game......

I can't argue with you. I would like to be entertained by the product on the ice, not the scoreboard BS and the Lame Music and worn-out promotions.

I would like to see 2 teams on the ice that are playing their arses off and playing with passion. I like the teams to hate one another, and I would like to feel like the 2 teams care about what they are doing out there some.

If the IHL could give us 8-10 quality teams.....great.

But I am skeptical if they can. I doubt they can ever again.

I really don't know what the answer is. It is not that we are losing as much as how we are losing.

I hate watching no touch icing and no touch hockey.

Am I asking too much?

Last nights Colorado box score. http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/boxscore.html?gameid=1338553

Wichita/Bloomy from last night.

It's not the CHL that is boring. Its the Fort Wayne Komets that are boring. Nobody even has enough heart to fight anymore. I don't want to hear the CHL is boring crap. It isn't true, there are 100's of examples like these two. I just picked two out from last night. The Komets are soft. The poor on-ice product takes away from the worn-out "fun" of the foolishness in between.

You are right JM.

Wish they could start playing with some fire.

Is there a way to ask these guys nicely to just play a shift or two where everyone is required to finish a check or two??

Seriously.

Some of the most fun games I have ever seen were games where guys made an effort to finish checks.

Don't tell me the game doesn't have this anymore, because ever team we play this year out-checks us by a landslide.

Hit - Perfect post at 10:21 pm. And the follow ups too. I think this league is less about the rough stuff than what we saw in the ihl2, but this Komet team is below even the CHL itself.

In the last 13 games we have had 3 fighting majors. 2 of them from Legault and one from Mironovic.

I'm not into fighting all night, but geez if you're not going to score do something. Snoozefests don't do anything for anyone.

I think it's true that if the IHL3 can get at least 8 teams then we might see it. What that means in terms of quality play I don't know. I do know that AHL hockey isn't any better as far as down and dirty play. You'll see a lot of nights like this.

How many times can we shoot it at the crest on the goalies chest?

Frustrating. Even if we had won in overtime would you really have gone away happy that you saw that game?

How bout the Dayton game on Saturday? All the talk about Mironovic. Nothing. 2-1 snoozer. Sigh.

Where is the IHL3 going to manufacture these teams?

Bloomy, QC, and Evansville aren't going to leave the CHL.

FW and Dayton... then who? Another failed attempt in Flint by the old PH owner? Then who? AAHL teams?

The IHL concept is dead.

Bloomington, Quad City and Evansville say they won't leave the CHL now. What they say in a year or two may be a totally different story. The economy, salaries, costs of travel and insurance will likely change and with that their attitude towards their choices of league

Steve
Mon, 01/10/2011 - 6:00pm

JM, both games you linked to were absolute blow outs with lots of penalties included. Not sure I would consider it all that exciting, especially now since we would likely be on the under side of those blow outs.

I still think the original concept for the IHL2 was good, it just didn't work because of the economy. An IHL3? A lot of "depends on" in that.

One or two things I think should be obvious. The hockey in the CHL (and ECHL) is different, but it is what hockey is these days. I feel we have to accept it and either decide we can watch it or not. To play around with the rules like was done in IHL2 will take away the developmental prospects.

If we pay attention we see a lot of missed passes, mistakes, missed shots including open nets, and other "rookie" stuff on the other teams in this league also. Except for the skill of the vets that's the way it is at this level. If the kids were better they wouldn't be here, they would be in the NHL or AHL and you can see what basically is the same in the AHL, just a bit less of it. IMO, the speed is obvious in the CHL, but so is the lack of skill compared to what we are use to here in the fort in the past.

The concept of playing for a playoff spot in this city seems to be a tradition. At times it seems like the regular season doesn't matter all that much as long as they make and do well in the play offs. I've seen that attitude on the blogs (remember last year when they were in 4th place and struggling?) and I can't begin to count how many time Colin Chin said the same thing when he was wearing the C. I usually make every game during the season plus the play offs and this attitude has always torqued me. If all I cared about were the playoffs I'd wait until then to start going to games.

Throw more checks? Back in my youth when I worked with a team in a different league a deep pocketed fan frustrated with the teams lack of physical play started offering bounties to the players, so many $ for a hit and a few more if they knocked them off their skates. Of course today that is no doubt against several rules, salary cap, and probably some law or two. I do find the concept interesting though.

Funny thing is that I always preferred the regular season to the playoffs. Why? Because I've always thought more of people who work hard even when there is no immediate reward for their effort.

Mr. Snufflupugus - QC and Bloomington are winning a lot more in this league. Winning is the best advertising. Why would they want to leave for a league where the odds would be stacked against them again? I bet they'd rather go juniors if things go too expensive, just like Flint, Muskegon and Port Huron did.
