No Brokeback breakout

I was glad to see this piece on why the "Brokeback Mountain" breakout meme ("Even Red State conservatives are flocking to see it!") is BS (if you fear I am descending into vulgarity, consider that it stands for "baloney sandwich"; no, not bologna -- we like to spell things like they sound in Kentucky). Now, I don't have to seem like the only homophobe or in-denial-about-his-own-gay-tendencies man in town because I don't want to go see simulated homosexual sex on the big screen. I'm not especially interested in tragic-ending movies about straight couples; why would I want experience one about a gay one?

Ah, so many choices for us Red-Staters among the Oscar contenders. We can see "Crash" and learn about how bad race relations are. "Munich" will explain to us that there is no difference between terrorists and those who would fight them. We can watch a brave liberal journalist take down an evil conservative (say, isn't that an oxymoron?) in "Good Night, and Good Luck." And, of course, there is "Capote," which captures how difficult it was for Truman Capote to write "In Cold Blood," what with being in love with one of the killers and all.
