Tailing the Komets

No cuts today, Part 2

Just talked Pat Bingham (who is celebrating his 38th birthday by the way), and he said they'll probably get to 22 or 23 players tomorrow, and then they'll see what happens.

``The decisions aren't obvious,'' he said. "From there they really get hairy.''

He, too, said between six and eight rookies will survive the first cut. He's not sure when the next cuts will be made, and could even come after the first weekend of play. Each team can have a 19-man active roster, but you can also put up to four players on injured reserve and another on team suspension.

He also has a point that the Komets only play five games over the next three weeks so they'll have more time to evaluate in practice.

"I'm very pleased with the intensity and effort we've gotten in training camp, and it's a great foundation to build the season on,'' he said. "I'm not tickled that some guys have to leave. When soembody does everything you asked them to do, and they still don't get the job, it's tough to give them a reason why.''

If they are keeping 22 or 23 players, finances are not a problem.

Mr. Sebring....Does that mean that they are staying well under the hard cap or what are you saying exactly?

Not important right now, but any word on who the captain and alternates will be? They'll probably wait until Friday to say, but I thought I'd ask...

Mr. Hit,

The salaries of players who are on IR or team suspension do not count against the hard cap because they do not count on the active roster. Chuckitt mentioned he was concerned if they were keeping that many rookies it might mean they were keeping them because they were cheaper than tweeners or veterans. My point is if they are keeping 22 or 23 players now, they aren't keeping 6-8 rookies because they are cheaper, but because of their ability.

Has there been any update on Aubin? The last I heard was his back was injured and a MRI was going to be done. Could he possibly go on IR? (Provided he isn't released)

A good sign. The longer it takes to cut players the better. Especially when it is clear they are having to decide who is better than who and not who is worse.

Blake...is Gabrielsen considered a rookie or does the UHL recognize the league he played in in Norway?

I'm not sure. More checking required.

The other thing to consider about 6-to-8 rookies is whoever doesn't make the Komets is going to make it somwhere else in the UHL. They better make sure they keep the right ones because they could come back to hurt them playing for someone else.

That is certainly true Blake. Take Hukalo for example. If he would get cut, he can very well end up on another UHL team. He has the talent to compete in this league. Also you never know which of these rookies are going to develop into great players. We have more talent than we can hold.

chuckitt is overly concerned with money.

when you are as wealthy as he is, people believe you don't know any poor people.

this is untrue.

several work for him.
