Tailing the Komets

Not cuts today

I talked with David Franke earlier, and he said the Komets will make some cuts tomorrow.

``This camp is probably as competitive as the camp we had in 2002-03,'' he said. ``I think it's one of the most competitive camps we've had since our IHL days.''

Franke also said the Komets will probably have 6-to-8 rookies make the club.

Hershey also kept nine defensemen on its roster to start the American Hockey League season, and the Komets will talk to them tomorrow.

``I don't' know what will happen,'' Franke said. "We'll just have to see. If the guy we're supposed to get isn't available maybe there's
somebody else they can send here.''

Either way,  the Komets don't have the holes on defense they thought they'd have before training camp opened.

6-8 rookies make the club? HMMMMM....that means that definitely a guy like Miller, Hukalo, Bozoian, or Domber should fear for their Komet Life. I am a huge Kelly Miller fan and am afraid that his Komet days are numbered. It really makes no sense to keep him as an 8th veteran if there is a cheaper rookie to keep. It stinks...but I can live with it. I will still maintain that he brings something to the team that other guys don't have...He is a valuable player. I hope they are taking this into consideration.

Again, you are making the presumption that he makes a lot of money. That's not necessarily the case. He'll be on the roster. I'll bet you a root beer. LOL.

I hope you are right Mr. Sebring. I love watching Kelly play. He is a heck of a guy too.

Blake, when is the deadline for cutting players? Can the team wait until right before the season opener?

i see only six rookies on the team so its apparent that some talent will be let go and the cheaper players will make the team if they keep 7 or 8 rookies.

They could Bob, but why work with so many extra players when you need to concentrate on getting your lines and pairings together and some more systems?

Truthfully, Chuckitt, I think some of the rookies have clearly outplayed the more experienced players. Plus I think it's going to be very key that Bingham keeps talking about how some players aren't listening to what he wants them to do, and he always mentions that the rookies are.

I think he'll keep all eight vets, but some of the tweeners could be in trouble. Tweeners usually don't make that much money.

Goodwin is surely safe isn't he? He hit everything that moved Friday night. He will have a great year this year...bet you a Root Beer on that one Mr. Sebring.

Yeah, that makes sense. I wasn't thinking about that (tired from extra hours at new job!) Do you think the lines will have more "firepower" evenly spread out among all of the lines?
