According to Komets General Manager David Franke, the team expects to hear a decision tomorrow from center J.C. Ruid. If he decides to go elsewhere (I've heard Chicago), the Komets have a back-up plan in place for another veteran forward.
The deal is, Ruid is still considering going to Europe, and the Komets don't want to get stuck with another Mark Smith situation with a player leaving during the season.
* The players have started informal workouts at McMillen Park Ice Arena and will be out there every morning next week.
* The Komets won't say anything about whom they are getting from Hershey yet. What if that player makes the Bears? If he does, the Bears are committed to helping the Komets find another defenseman. Hershey does have a ton of rookies coming into camp.
* The Komets are not sendng anyone to camp with Hershey or Bridgeport. That was an option for a couple of players they were looking to sign, but they chose to sign elsewhere.
* At this time, it doesn't look like Komets coach Pat Bingham is going to attend any AHL training camps.
* Because the NHL has adopted it, the UHL is also adopting a new rule that allows a 3/4-inch curve on sticks compared the the previous 1/2-inch. The UHL will not be adopting the rule that allows the home team to choose whether to shoot first or second in the shootout, which I think would be huge since the road team shoots first and the team that scores first wins about 75 percent of the shootouts.

I'm glad to hear that the UHL is adopting the 3/4 inch curve. I don't know why it hadn't been adopted by the NHL earlier if they were trying to make the game more offensive.
I deffently don't want to see Ruid jump ship like Smith did last year. I suppose you don't know or can't tell us who the other backup vet is, can you Blake? Will they bring this 9th vet into camp or not unless Ruid is out?
If a couple of the rookies we have now or well spoken of in Canada, why don't the Komets try to send them to Hershey's camp? I don't want Hershey to pick them up of course, but it would show that Ft Wayne is a place that rookies can go if they do want to move up in hockey. We'll need rookies for next season, make Ft. Wayne more appealing now.
C'mon DNL. Think about what you're asking. I tell you what I can and know. There's no way they would volunteer such information and let other teams know they are talking to someone. And why would the Komets take a chance on losing talent that they found? There are 7 or 8 fewer teams at the AA level, and even if there weren't there are plenty of rookies out there.
I personally think the thing about getting guys training camp opportunities is mostly hogwash. All players care about is the money just like anybody else in any other profession. True, Fort Wayne treats players very well, but if Flint offered $25 or $50 more per week, they'd be gone in a heartbeat. That's not being cynical, it's common sense.
Some of this stuff we just have to let play out.

I sincerely doubt it. Last I heard, Michel had shoulder problems and was going back to school for business classes. DAB signed with Tulsa in the CHL.
