Tailing the Komets

Notes on the meeting

Just got off the phone with David Franke and he's feeling very good about the meetings.

``I think the direction that this league is going to take in the future will totally be from a geographic standpoint,'' he said. ``For the first time since I've been involved in this business (back to the mid-1980s) georgraphy has been decided upon as the main factor in the league's make-up. I think we're going to be a lot stronger in the future.''

There's no change in the veteran rule or in the roster size. He said the schedule will be the best the Komets have ever had in the UHL, cutting down on travel and wear and tear on the players. He also said he believes the hard cap can and will be enforced.

Lance Galbraith has a player-option on his contract, and he can sign somewhere else, but first he has to clear UHL waivers. That has not happened, but probably will.

David Hukalo has signed and offer sheet, not a contract. They could not sign players to contracts until after the league meetings, and that will be taken care of next week. So far no other player has signed.

Check back later for some more info.

Blake exactly what is an offer sheet in this league?

I don't quite understand the Galbraith issue. The Franke's anticipate he would clear waivers? Why would he? YOu would think someone would snag him up rather quickly. On the other hand, if someone did claim him, then what?

Nevermind...I see he is signed back in Idaho.

Wait...I am confused...why isn't Lance coming back here? Why wouldn't they want him and why would he not want to come back? Help me out here.....

Most of all, if Lance doesn't want to be here, they're happy if he's happy. They might say more about it later.

Going through waivers is now a formality.

An offer sheet is what teams give to players to retain their rights, keeping other UHL teams away. Essentially, it's an opening to negotiations, but David must have liked his offer and accepted it.

I hope it is not going to be another we loved you when you were here....but since you are gone....you are the biggest .....

Please not another Danny Stewart story. I hate it when they do that. Protect them when they are here....crucify them when they go.

Sounds like there are lots of announcements coming on guys that won't be back...I just hope the announcements on who we are getting outweigh the who we lost. Would hate to see Chaulker skating in K-zoo next year like the chatter has sounded. That would suck so bad. I hate K-Zoo...and couldn't bare seeing an all-time favorite go to that team...makes me sick.

First I heard about the Chaulk - Kzoo rumors but it wouldn't surprise me since he has made no secret of his belief that Mark Reeds is the best coach he ever played for. When Blake had Colin on the blog one night, Colin said that he would play anywhere that Reeds is coaching. I hope he is back here next season wearing #91 in the orange and black again.

Hit,
I think actually too many fans look at ex players with rose/orange tinted glasses. Everytime a former player becomes available you get the "BRING BACK ...INSERT PLAYER HERE.." / "GIMMIE BACK MY SON!!!!" posts.
I think very few players have been cheered out of town recently. Folks may point out the flaws that caused the player to not be brought back but in most cases those flaws were talked about while they were here too.

Thanks for that link, Nanci! In that press release, it says "Fort Wayne Comets." LOL

Very sad to see him go, but good luck to him in the future!

Tony, there you go again trying to get hockey fans to use logic. Shame on you! I thought you were much smarter than that.

"Tony E" and "Smart" are only used in the same sentence if "A--" follows smart. ;-)

I'm sorry to see Galbraith go. He was a good player and very entertaining to watch. Good Luck Lance. You will be missed.

I am not sad to see Galbraith go. He was way too undisciplined for my liking. He had an excellent 6 week stretch during the season, but the rest of his play was below average to average at best.

This is a very interesting difference of opinion on Galbraith. I thought he did okay offensively, I just thought he spent more time getting into trouble and in the box instead of putting people in the box as we thought he would do.

The whole thing on Chaulk I believe has been overplayed. Someone once asked him 'if he wasn't playing in Fort Wayne, where would he like to go?' and he replied 'wherever Reeds is coaching.' I don't think there was anything to that to suggest he is jumping boat to Kalamazoo. Besides EVEN IF he for whatever reason he wanted to go to Kalamazoo, he wouldn't be able to be picked up until half way through the season because Fort Wayne has his rights.
As for Galbraith, would have liked to see him stay, but he is replaceable. Besides, if we sign some of these players he picked up in the draft, he would be battling just to stay on the second line. I think it will benifit both Lance and the Komets by going seperate ways. If we want someone who proves to get under people's skin, plus scores alot more goals, it's Duhart. Only Duhart won't fight (anyone of importance anyhow.) All in all, good luck Galbraith back in Idaho.
While I'm a little disappointed that they didn't do away with the vet limit and didn't add an extra roster spot, it may be for the best. Keeping the vet limit at 7 means that there is that much more competition for vets to find a job. Plus not paying for an extra roster spot should mean that the other players have a possibility of making more and staying under the hard cap.

Komet fan, exactly which Lance were you watching this season? Evidently not our Lance. As for Duhart, NO COMMENT. Colin's house is up for sale so I would say that we have our info on that.

When I reported the rumnor that St. Pierre's house was up for sale, "someone" replied that maybe he was just looking for a better house in the area.

I have other questions that I want
Blake to answer
#1 Why do we say the alarm went off when, in fact, it went on? ?
#2 How do you draw a blank?
and most important, something I have always wanted to know
If you choke a Smurf what colour does it turn?

Why do we still call it "dialing'' the phone?

What did George Bush actually get on the language part of his SAT?

Why did the San Diego Gulls agree to trade Peter Hankinson and Jean-Marc Richard for nothing in 1992 only to accept Max Middendorf three months later?

When I ask whatever happened to Arsenio Hall, does that make you go Hmmm?????

Speaking of Smurfs.....why was there only ONE female Smurf and the rest of them were male? That would make it....eh....difficult to continue the species. Would the Smurf turn white if you chocked him? If a Smurf played defense, would he still be called a "blueliner"? Sorry....I know....really bad joke!

Did I say anything all that bad to get the stupid-a@@ responses that you guys put up here. Lance was a guy that I was critical of early on this season before his little disapearance act mid-way through the season and I caught hell from all of you for wondering where his head was at when his team needed him the most in what was the worst stretch of the season. I then later in the season admitted that the Lance we were seeing was the Lance that was advertised and that he was doing the things like taking the body, agitating the other team, and scoring points like we all expected him to do with all the hype that came with him. I was converted into a fan of Lance's thanks to alot of fellow-bloggers harping at me to give him a chance. And now we are going to trash him when he is gone? Where are all of you Lance lovers now? I am not yelling to bring this guy back like you insist Tony E. I am just saying...pick a freaking side on guys like Lance and stick to it. Don't beat everybody down for not liking him to start with because he was playing like a dog...and then when we give the guy a break after he finally figures out how to contribute and wins some fans over, we bring out stories that bash him. Give us the stories when they are here and let us decide. Not when the guy is gone and it may upset some of his fans because he is gone, and then you decide to throw fuel on the fire? I am not blaming you either Blake. I think you take what information you are given when you are given it and do what you have to do. I think whoever is giving out the info should be to blame for this tactic.

Who is next on the bashing list...Chaulk?

Ummm Hit. I hope you feel better after that rant! That was almost an Ozzie Guillen classic. To be honest, I wasn't even thinking about you when I made my comments above.
I don't have a "side" on most players. I try to look at their positives, negatives and intangibles and where they fit in to the team they are playing on. There are very few guys not named Brad Purdie who I thought were completely useless. I think almost any player given the right mix of chemistry and situation can be useful. I also do not believe anyone is irreplacable.
There were alot of reasons to like Lance as a player and also alot of reasons he drove me nuts. So you see, I don't have a side.
I also do not engage in rumours. That is for the folks on other well known message boards to do.
So Hit, I honestly apologize if I offended you as it was not my intention. It is not my intention to offend anyone.

Got ya Tony...and I wasn't totally going after you either. Just kills me how the opinions change like the wind on here sometimes. And that is definitely not you.

On a different note...since I have your attention. I have been wanting to talk to you. Are you willing to give me a little info on a particular Football Card that my mom found in mint condition in the Kitchen cabinet a week ago. And she wanted to know if she should just throw it away...wow!!!
