Tailing the Komets

Nothing new, yet

According to Komets president Michael Franke, "By early next week I think we'll have some information. I will tell you that the schedling meeing and the all the drafts have been rescheduled and will be coming up late next week."

Asked if he had any plans on heading to Quad City early next week, Franke said, "I can't say."

Asked about news out of Flint, "The ownership group is in place. We'll know more within 7-to-10 days."

Everybody have a good weekend and try to stay cool. I'm going on vacation, but I'll be checking in.

Hit if Justin and Blake delayed anything base upon the IHL time table they never get to do anything. These meetings have been on going for 2 weeks now. Besides everything will be press release by the league.

Some of you must think all I have to do is Komets. You know, you might want to check out other parts of the paper sometime. You realize it's the actual NEWSpaper that pays for the blog, right, and not the other way around? Komets are about 20 percent of my workload right now and rarely more than 50 percent at any time except playoffs. We've all got to squeeze our vacas into about a six-week period. Oh, well, back to mine.

I don't really care when anyone takes a vacation. Wendy, aren't summers fantastic? June, July, August... were there ever 3 greater months??

You're all worthless and weak! Now drop and give me twenty!

I was just thinking out loud and hoping that the IHL isn't planning on jerking its fanbase around another 2-3 weeks is all.
Sorry.

Watching the a 5 team league is COMPLETELY unappealing to me, sorry. 6 is border line and 7 may sprout some interest.....

I can't wait until we win another Turner Cup, that's going to be AWESOME!! The best of the best we will be. Might as well knock the teams down to 4, allow 2 teams to just go for the finals and we WIN!!

PARADE!!!!!

Or you could be in the boring ECHL where the scheduling is a nightmare. Everyone is complaining about how awful it is.

I will take the IHL and enjoy myself at the games. Dayton is going to be a fun team to play against.

Sorry some people have such a negative outlook.

RunningKomet: Ah yes, summer. Those are golden months warmed by an unworldly light. And when things become the most difficult, Draco shines more brightly for all of us who know where to look. :D

Hey, whatever works to forget about the griping and bickering on the blogs, ya know?

RunningKomet

I'm not sure about all the "Draco shines upon thee" talk, but whatever makes your summer great, I say do it.

The best part about all of it, Chaulker: no one is forcing you to buy a ticket and go watch. If you don't like the league or the number of teams, don't go. One less car to dodge after a game :)

Sweet! My bestest buddy Blake owns a team. Elkhart is closer to QC than many of those on here. Blake...seriously, a team color of mauve?! WTF is mauve? Turn in your boys. Real men use primary colors only!

As the HEAD of off-ice officials and "Chief" of security. (I always wanted to be Chief thanks Blake) Know this, everything in it's own time. In the perfect world we would all know what it is you think you just have to know. Since I don't live in a perfect world I am willing to be understanding of people who are spending lots of their money. Michael Jackson is dead and we WILL all find out why or how he died in due time. If things are being done right they just take time. Enjoy you summer they go by way to fast. The older you get the faster they go. This information is from the old fart who appreciates each summer more each year. Trust me you will have to die to truly understand what I am talking about. I have once so I speak with authority. Our favorite sport is in very good hands or minds. They got rid of the bum, Picard, and it will be done correctly and in it's own time. Now I am going on vacation. I can because I have earned it. I am not like a lot of you Blogger's who get to set by the pool and cry in your beer. Peace & Love!!!!

I wish that I had time to sit by the pool and have a beer....I'm working full time hours, going to school and trying to get things organized for my group's charity car show....and oh yeah, restoring an old car in my "free time"

My vacation isn't until September....

I have my summers to blog and do anything else I'd like because I have earned them through lots of work and many sleepless nights. I feel your pain, Bob. I just finished my graduate degree. I'm going to let my body recuperate for a few months, then start on my doctorate. Stick with it, you'll get through.

On more than one occasion I've noticed people telling people to give the blog a rest and enjoy their summers, yet those same people always come back and have tons of responses. When it comes down to it, coming into the air conditioning for a few minutes from the 90 degree temps feels nice, and a blog doesn't take too long to write. Plus, it's fun to speculate on things that are out of our control and on the off chance one of us just might guess something right, we get to throw out the classic "I told you so!"

With that, it's back outside for me. Have a great one, all!

Today I had a little time between sales calls and I thought I would read a little more of Blake Sebring's LEGENDS OF THE KOMETS. I started to read the chapter regarding Ken Ullyot and I found it to be quite interesting. (As are all the chapters as they give us the story behind these people who have been honored.) I don't know if you all believe in coincidence, mojo, fate, or whatever, but I found it weird that I would be reading about Ken Ullyot today (which happens to be his birthday). Now we are all aware of the situation the IHL finds itself in today. Teams leaving, teams entering, leagues competing for the same cities, teams in financial trouble, owners being involved with more than one team at the same time, owners lending money to financially strapped teams, and finding new teams to keep the league alive. If you have this book read pages 72 and 73. It almost gave me chills as I read about then and what is happening today. It certainly is eerie and I believe there was some reason why I read this part of the book today.

BREAKING NEWS......... Indiana's News Center just announced Quad City WILL be in the IHL next season. yah!! It was kinda stuck in at the end of the news really quickly. They said it will officially be announced tomorrow! :) (If I am behind, I am sorry, but I didn't see anyone else with this info!)

RunningKomet: That's adapted from the last line in "Dragonheart". You know your constellations, don't you? What fun is summer without a little star gazing? And Draco is so easy to find. It's sandwiched right in between the big and little dippers. http://starryskies.com/The_sky/constellations/draco02.jpg

Yeah, I wondered about the muave too, since muave is a sort of dusty pink. Don't know what Blake was thinking there. :D

Hey, great news about QC. Can't wait until it is announced.

What's your Piled High & Deep gonna be in?

Bob, what's the details on the car show?

Dschebig, don't hold out on us, what's the rest of the story.

Think Pickard could announce QC on his last day in office tomorrow, that would be a nice ending--ha ha!

This will also mean we will loose more players rights from last season. I would guess somewhere between 2 and 4 players but that is a guess.

Mon, 06/29/2009 - 7:13pm

Fine with me....I will gladly give-up 3 or 4 bottom feeder players for a 7 team league.

IHL Haters can nibble on that. Kalamazoo and Pickard egg on face.

Notice that Pickard is gone, and the league expanded......funny how that happens.

The most players a team can lose is 3.Legault-MacMillan-MVL IS MY PREDICTIONS. Legault gets 20 goals & 300PIM.

Mon, 06/29/2009 - 7:45pm

If you check out the comments with the QC story you will see they have the same problem some of you have. I am sure that once they get into the thick of the season they will find out just what kind of hockey is played in the IHL. Some people just do not appreciate what they have. What is the saying? "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence". Paul Pickard would not have the guts to show up in QC. I wonder if they will be the Mallards again or with new owners if they want a completely new deal. I would unload the Mallard name and start fresh. But than that's just me. Maybe they could be the "Daffy Qwackers" Whatever they will be is alright with me. Welcome the I!!!

MacMillan will not be left unprotected. I just can see that happening.

My guess would be that Legault, MVL, and Aldoff will be the 3 that are gone. Dylan Row....Jack Pinch.....Sebastian Leplante...Mr. Bobblehead Bertram.....take your pick. You can't give away MacMillan. Toughest guy in the league and most entertaining on the K's.

Don't underestimate the mighty Brown, Burgee. Remember a few years back when they fished a pirahna out of it?

The goalie is the player I'd really be wanting to maintain first and foremost. Wasn't there some talk WAYYYY early in the summer about some signings to the Komets and some people returning who weren't here last year? Did that all get blown off like dust in the wind? Has everyone forgotten about that announcement that we never heard anything about? How would those guys fit into the Veterans rule IF any of that was true??

Burgee
Mon, 06/29/2009 - 9:40pm

I can see sebas, pool, sterling and Alban getting snatched in the expansion draft. Wolfe retired so bloomy won't lose one. My prediction, Dayton picks up 4 goalies in expansion draft.

Dschebig
Tue, 06/30/2009 - 3:21am

I do not see Pool, or Alban going in the draft. Larrrrrry maybe! Seabass for sure. Remember a team can only lose one goaly. I think even though Wolfe retired his rights are held by the PT. They just do not have to protect him. As far as previous players returning to the Komets. Why would you want to make anykind of announcements until after the draft or stocking of the new teams. That's the kind of info you keep "real close" to the vest. It would help you understand why some players may not be protected. Besides that, it give us all something to talk about.

I was thinking along the same lines Dschebig, just wondering what the rules were with them coming back and if they counted as Veterans or not. The Quad Cities news is good though. Alan got his wish, now he'll have to figure out some other way to fill his blog quota of 6 chapters each week hahahahaha! ;) Just kidding, Alan, keep it coming. I enjoy reading your article.

It's nice seeing the league gain some strength. I enjoyed last year, even when the Komets were struggling through the middle of the season. While I'm excited about this upcoming season, I'm not ready to wish away my summer just yet to get to hockey season. Have a happy and safe Fourth everyone!
