Tailing the Komets

One game for Rudenko

The league just ruled. He'll sit out Friday's game against Rockford.

Here's what he said earlier today about the hit:

``The rage took over and I couldn't think,'' Rudenko said, laughing.

Then he got serious: ``I saw an opportunity, and I couldn't stop
myself. It's one of those things. Hopefully soon we'll find out what
happens, possibly one or two games hopefully and not more. I turned
around, and what are you going to do? I probably shouldn't have done
it, but it is what it is.''

So nothing for Richardson?

Predictable for th UHL and I suppose good enough. Hopefully lesson learned not just for him but the rest of the team as well.

Weak ruling in my opinion. This will be interseting to see how Komet fans take thins news.

This says to me that the UHL (or any league for that matter)is not truthful in wanting to take this type of play out of the game. I wish they would be at least honest about it.

The only difference between Rudenko and the other guy was that he got caught.

IMO 1 game too many.

Blake

He was expecting two games so how could it be one game too many? If the guy who actually delivered the hit says that, then you've got to take off the rose-colored glasses.

The suspension was what I expected. 1 game seems fair to me, given the state of inconsistency in the UHL....

I agree with the Suspension. At some point though, The Mallard takes some responsibility to cause he lowered his head due to not being able to handle the puck. Its alright, Lets have HOG ROAST on Friday!!!!

Burgee, there's a big difference. Otten hit Rudenko front-to-front. Rudenko plowed Otten from behind, and near the boards.

All leagues are looking to protect the players from career-ending neck injuries.

So the boarding call (that would have ended everything) that should have been called on Otten that made Rudenko look like a rag doll thrown over the bench, was fine not to call since he faced him when he took him into the boards?

I'm fine with the one game, less than I though it would be, but how about giving the ref one game for letting the game get out of hand? I know we only have one ref and $$$ is short and blaa blaa blaa...

Normally bording is not called if the player giving the hit does not leave his feet and if it is not a hit from behind.

Hoss

I was always taught if you had to take three strides to hit the guy, it was boarding. That could have been just an easy way for my Dad to explain it, but that was it.

So did Brad Wingfield get a suspension too from this Rudenko hit?

I know I lost some of you...but Wingfield gets suspended in this league for everything. What about Chaser's favorite player "Black Snake..." LOL

Burgee

so....what drove the rage, was he mad about the front to front hit or was it deeper? something more going on, i wouldn't think he would hit him like that to retaliate on a clean front to front hit.

Lil Stevie and his piggies are coming to town.

Hoss it is a judgement thing. here is the book rule

A minor or major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee, based upon the degree of violence of the impact with the boards, shall be imposed on any player who checks an opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to be thrown violently in the boards.
(NOTE) Any unnecessary contact with a player playing the puck on an obvious "icing" or "off-side" play which results in that player being knocked into the boards is "boarding" and must be penalized as such. In other instances where there is no contact with the boards, it should be treated as "charging".

When a major penalty is imposed under this Rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed.

On a positive note, former Komet Don Atchison has runaway with the election and will remain as mayor of Saskatoon.

Anybody see where Bogunecki was traded to the Islanders. Blake, do you think he'll get some playing time there?

1 game suspension was sufficient. Still think Otten should have been called first, then this wouldn't have happened. Hasn't someone ever done or said something to you and you take offense immediately and over-react? I think that's what happened. No ulterior motive. Bogden got creamed by Otten and just saw red that nothing was called and went after him. Plain and simple. Too severe of a hit? Probably, but adrenaline just takes over sometimes.

Sorry, but I don't see that as an excuse. Stiffer punishment was required in this case.

The one game suspension was enough. Adrenaline does play a part in something like that. Sometimes you forget to think before you act. It was a mistake, but we all know that he has learned from it.

Greg, do you remember the guy that took Jason Kean out for us and got no penalty??? Now that was worth an all time suspension. He didn't even get any call for the hit and Keaner never played again.

Greg
Thu, 10/26/2006 - 8:18am

I agree, all hits like that need to be dealt with severley. That's my take on it. There's no room in hockey for hits from behind no matter what a player is feeling or how ticked he is at another player. Thanks for proving my point.

Thu, 10/26/2006 - 8:27am

LOL That's not how you were supposed to take that. I meant that Rudenko's hit did not injure the guy like what happened to keaner. The guy was back up and skating shortly afterward. I'm not saying that I agree with those types of hits, I don't. I just felt that Otten got to do whatever he wanted to Rudenko and nobody cared. Maybe Rudenko should have just challenged him instead. That probably would have been better, but sometimes our better judgement goes by the wayside.
