One of their own

Like some of the troops in Iraq, I've also felt the coverage of Bob Woodfruff's wounding just a tad excessive:

"The point that is currently being made (is that) that press folks are more important than mere military folks," a senior military officer told UPI Tuesday.

The unavoidable consequence of war is this: People are savagely wounded and killed. Soldiers in Iraq watching the coverage on satellite television and reading the news on the Internet are getting the impression that the press has only just discovered this fact.

It's human nature, I suppose. Reality often doesn't hit home until one of our own is affected.

And I cannot help but wonder if the military personnel does not resent a little bit the time and efforts spent on the civilian media who may really not need to be there. The military men need to be concentrating on their job and their men. True, they are not going to just let them perish, but still .....
