Warner had a good game, I'll admit that. I want to see him do that consistently before I totally change my tune though...

Great Game Brandon Warner!!!

Fun game all around, even though a loss.

Lardner keeps getting stronger and stronger.

I feel bad for KR. Raw deal IMHO.

Happy New Year!!!

Dear Komet fans, first of all Happy New Year to all bloggers and Blake. Lets look at things from a different perspective..as we continue to do things the same way we will continue to get the same results, as witnessed tonight. Did you ever listen to the fans during a game describe the situation as - I am ok with it as long as we win and that things appear to be coming together. We need to allow ourselves the pleasures of accepting wins but dealing with the fact that there are problems and we as fans need to accept that fact and not bury our heads in the sand...very old school. You cannot continue to play on the perimeter with long shots, not crash the net and expect to win. OMG folks lets wake up to the fact that we need to change the style of play based on what we have seen so far....no futher changes than what we have seen, then no further result changes....nice effort overall by most however based on that style of play.

Generic scenario -
K's defensemen are scoring more goals - very good
K's defensemen are pinching the corners - good
Opponents breakout, K's stuggle to catch them - not good
K's penatlites - hooking, slashing, interference - not good
Power Plays result - they crash the nets and leave the goal tenders to fend for themselves - shameless
Result goal, K's loss - same old same old

I think the third period against Mississippi and the game last night against Quad City revealed some things about the K's.

First, it is gratifying to see the Komets finally have some success putting the puck in the net. Scoring six goals and then five should result in two wins.

I like the line of the young kids. They show hustle and desire but may need to work a little more in the defensive zone. Podshendyalov is a nice player. ( I would be taking another look at the league he came from to see if there were another player or two who might be similar in skills). I think Sims will keep the Druin, Thomas, O'Conner line together. My hope is that Sims will put Chaulk at center with Curadeau on a wing to get Curadeau started.

Weaknesses? Well, the penalty kill has just been awful as I watch the K's form the "box" and then collapse back toward the net instead of going out and challenging the puckhandler with an aggressive approach. It allows the other team to pass freely and also skate toward the Komets net under control.

Weaknesses? Simply too many penalties. Some even "stupid penalties". ( Like taking a penalty in the offensive zone or way behind the play).

Weaknesses? Getting faceoffs has been a disaster. It is a real problem for the K's and affects so many different parts of the game.

Some may point out that Chaulk will help both the penalty kill and the faceoffs.

Weaknesses? I think the K's should be on the look for a good, defensive, defenseman. This present group needs to show some improvement, especially clearing out the slot in front of their own goaltender.

This team still has "holes" that need to be attended to. Still, it was nice to see some offense and the fact that they didn't quit when earlier in the year they might have.

Things are starting to come together. I'm sure the Franke's will keep working on making the Komets even better.

Any thoughts on this, guys and gals? Have I missed something?

The pentalty kill really stinks we don't clear the net and push the other team back. Blocking shots has getting better. The "dumb" pentalties like Legualt took n the 1st period you should take the other player too. Dare i say that Warner played a good game for parts Just waiting till next Fri. Lets go Komets
