Pence plans

I'm not sure how much stock we should put in this speculation about Mike Pence's plans, since it is attributed only to "a source familiar with his deliberations," but it's not too early to start talking about which conservative candidate to put up against President Obama (and Pence clearly qualifies since, as the article notes, he is "a darling of the conservative movement").

House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence  of Indiana is considering stepping down from his post in the GOP leadership in preparation for a possible bid for president or governor in 2012.

[. . .]

Pence believes it would be inappropriate to stay at the GOP conference post — the No. 3 spot in the House Republican hierarchy — unless he could stay through 2012, the source said. Pence also believes that he can be a more effective conservative voice if he is free of the responsibilities that he would have in leadership of a House Republican majority.

Mike, darling, I'd personally see you stay in the House rather than try for governor -- we can find lots of good Republicans for that job, but it would be hard to replace your leadership in the House. But, hey, go for it if that's your inclination.
