Tailing the Komets

Possible good news on Colin

Komets coach Greg Puhalski said Colin Chaulk sliced open the back of his leg near his ankle when he fell on the skate blade of another player. He was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure to get stitched up, and he'll be out of the lineup the rest of the weekend. The Komets don't believe the injury is going to turn out to be a major one.

The Komets will likely move Kelly Miller back into the lineup Saturday at Flint after he sat out Friday. Lance Galbraith will also be out of the lineup Friday after receiving an instigation penalty in the last five minutes. That carries an automatic one-game suspension.

A.J. Bozoian also returned to the lineup Friday after missing several weeks with an abdominal injury. Mark Lindsay sat out but will get to play Saturday.

Why was Kelly Miller out of the line-up tonight? Healthy Scratch? Hope Chaulk isn't out long. We cannot afford to lose him at all.

Good W tonight we will see what happens in Flint Saturday night...I wonder if any of the flint players read Jorde's little article on fighting on how he kind of called Mr. Wilcox...could be interesting...Now that Lance has to sit Saturday I am sure Stewart will try something once again with Domber

Dumb and Domber once again, I'm afraid. Good D-man. Not able to stick up for himself.

I'm hearing from several places that we need not to be very optimistic yet about Chaulk. It could very well be a torn achilles tendon, and if it is, he is done guys. I think there is alot of spin out there from the Komet camp on this one. I'm afraid if we find out tonight or tomorrow that he is done for the year, we are in deep poo-poo. I don't think we have much of a chance without our heart and soul. The playoffs are so tough anyways. He is the leader we have to have to win. Lots of prayers and hopes for Chaulker tonight. From everyone.

Blake, I know it is very early in the morning now (12:20am), when will the Komets know anything on Chaulks injury? Is he still in the hospital? Will he be leaving the team to come home to Fort Wayne? Any news out there, please post if able.

They aren't coming home tonight for one thing. If I hear anything I'll post, but I'm not expecting to hear anything. I have calls in, but that's all I can do right now.

Thanks Blake. This could be a huge loss. The only other guy I think that could be worse is Frenchy. Chaulk is one of those guys we can't lose, period. Nervous times.

Sorry I missed the game tonight. I get to dodge the rain doing the umpiring thing this weekend.
Now Hit, how in the heck can you find cause to get on Domb after a 3 point +2 night? I don't give a rats rectum what else he does when he puts up numbers like that.
Have my fingers crossed for Chaulk. Skate blade injuries are dangerous. I still remember as a kid being scared out of my mind playing goal the night after Clint Malarchuk got his neck cut open. Hopefully tommorow night when I can check the blog again there will be good news.

I wasn't getting on him. Just stating the obvious. Good D-man....doesn't stick up for himself. Just responding to David is all.

Chaulker has me worried, Komet Nation should be scared shatless.

What did Lance do to get himself into trouble this time lol? Stats wise he had another good aggressive productive game.
Hit I didn't mean to jump on you. It's just folks have been kind of on this guy since the day we signed him and I don't get it. 7 games, 6 points and a plus 7. I think I would rather have him on the ice than sitting in the penalty box. I think so far, he is one of the better defencemen on this team and is chipping in nicely on the offence. He might be one of the best pickups of the season.

Agreed. Were you able to see either of the two games last weekend against Flint when Stewart chased Domber around the ice? That is the only thing guys are questioning. If he just would have flattened him once, or even fought him and lost, this thing would be over. This has just been an on-going theme with this team this year. More so than any other team we have seen in recent years. He is a great D-man. A great pick-up. If he fought one time at home, he would win everybody's respect back. That is all he'd have to do. He should have kicked the crap out of Stewart. Bottom line. It wouldn't have made a bit of difference in the outcome of either game with Flint. Don't let anyone fool you on that.

I bet Stewart will try to use and abuse him again tonight at Flint. Is the 3rd time the charm? Only thing is, we won't be there to see it, meaning the Fort Wayne Home Crowd. No Galbraith, no Chaulk. That leaves Jorde to stick up for him. Jorde will fight someone, only if he gets a written invitation, a waivor from his insurance company, a waivor from the guy he is fighting insurance company, a note from his mom, yada yada yada....you know.
Wonder if anyone on Flint's team is aware of Mr. Jorde's "fight recipes" he gave to Blake? He may get his chance tomorrow night if any of those guys know about it.

I have to hit the hay . First game behind the plate at 9 tommorow morning lol.
I would just leave this out there. We will never know if Domber has an injury that is preventing him from fighting. Realize if he has a hurt shoulder or broken fingers etc, this information will not be made public because other teams would try to exploit it. He never had the reputation as a fighter even in juniors from talking to my source. We will have to see what happens. As far as tonight, with Chaulk and Lance out, you maybe really need him on the ice rather than in the penalty box and if he can get another extended powerplay for the Komets, that might go a long way towards winning while very shorthanded player wise.

Why should Domber give Stewart the satisfaction of fighting him? Domber is not a fighter while Stewart is. He'll probably get pounded or even hurt. Then what? What was solved? Respect? Please. Any way this guy goes the same nutjobs will laugh that he got pounded or continue to whine that he doesn't fight. Don't play the "he'll get respect" card here. That is BS and you know it.
Stewart is still mad about a hit that got layed on him earlier this season. He needs to get over it or continue to get tossed from games I guess. Getting on this guy who is putting up solid numbers and has been a great pick-up is assinine.

Jamie Milam seems to be a real good player. I havent gotten to see him yet cause I've been out of town for work, is he as good as his stats seem to indicate??? If anyone was watching the game last nite was Galbraith's instigator penalty a good call???

ok. OK! So Dombkewicz can't/won't/doesn't want to fight Stewart. There's another way to get him off your back.

Yes Lance's instigator was a good call, but who knows that penalty is a joke and should be tossed out of the rule book. I think the magic number is 4 points if I am correct and Blake can confirm that for us.

Last night's game was pretty good, it was like a morbid silence in our section (komet fans) when Chaulk went down. We should kick some ice in flint tonight!

TONY E.....ARE YOU COMING TO THE GAME TONIGHT IN FLINT??? CALL US IF YOU ARE!!

Sat, 04/08/2006 - 7:13am

Tonight's game in Flint should be an interesting contest. Jorde's Q & A with Blake seems to have made it to the attention of some of Flint's players that were included in the article, mainly Wilcox and Stewart. Wilcox fought Fels last night and from some of the recaps handed Fels his A..! For us tonight we need to come out banging and try to take control of this game early and not hope for Flint to go through the motions. They have nothing to play for other than contracts for next season but that might not mean enough since Flint's ownership appears to be a bear bone operation. Not too many players on Flint's roster really want to come back because of the management.

Scoops, don't want to start a pissing match with you, but look back at situations in the past when "non-fighters" on our hockey team have stood up to guys who taken shots at them. The one that always sticks in my mind as a good example is Kevin Schmidt. Brad Wingfield dogged him a couple of times in a game, gave him a face-wash in front of the our goalie, and Kevin kicked the crap out of him. If no-one on this team has the balls to stand up to Stewart to put it to a stop, then maybe Domber should take care of things himself. Do you enjoy watching other teams players take liberties with our guys and they just sit back a watch it?

Maybe Jorde needs to come up with a better pick-up line out there on the ice or something to get the other team's players to go. These are the instances I wish we still had a Massie, Danny Stewart, Worlton, Parsons, Logan, type of player. Those guys wouldn't stand for another teammate taking a beating.

I agree that watching Schmidt give a little love back to Wingfield was fun to see. Wingfield certainly had it coming... BUT i also remember watching Perrault buckle at the knees when he took a heck of a shot from a goon. He ended up missing some time because of it.. SO, Domber can roll the dice if he wishes. He will either redeem himself and put stewart on his back, or he will end up seeing stars and possibly miss a little playoff time with it... If i were him i think i would let Stewart keep getting his sorry butt tossed out of games.

Sat, 04/08/2006 - 9:56am

I too would like to see Jorde mix it up a lil more; but I would have to say that he is more valuable on the ice than in the box. I would hope come playoff time that he will not let teams take liberties with Frenchy like they have in the past and send a clear message that its not gonna happen this year....I believe thats where his value is this post season.

Face-washing, some stick slashing, shoving, and chirping is all part of hockey. Those are not taking liberties. Its not all about "I gotta drop gloves" when something like that happens. If he decides to drop them, fine. If he doesn't for whatever reason, fine. His role and value to the team is on the ice, not being a punching bag for some idiot who hasn't gotten over a hit 3 months ago. The advantage for the Komets is Stewart is not worried about the game but more about settling a score. This takes him out of the game and likely other players too will be more in tuned to what Stewart is doing than the game itself. Great.
Too many of you guys are more worried about the fight counts, paybacks, or settling old scores than game results which is stupid, especially as important as these games are now. Would I like to see him stand up for himself? Absolutely, but I am not going to crucify him for not doing anything. We need everyone healthy heading into the second season. There is no real benefit in fighting Dave Stewart but showing a few bloggers how much man he is.

We cannot afford losses to Flint. They handed us our arse tonight. Looks like Wilcox found the right words to go with Jorde. Chase made it sound as if it were even. Anyone know? Bottom line is we got a Loss out of a game that we should have won. Even with probably our best two forwards out, we should have won. Chaulk is a huge loss to this team. Pray that he doesn't have a cut achilles tendon, or he and we are screwed.

scoops, youre back to calling people names again. im one of those nutjobs that believes in respect on the ice. i would never put down someone for losing a fight, only for not trying. obviously youve never played the game or yu would understand that intimidation(sp) and respect have a lot to do with hockey on the inside. it may not mean much to fans but in the locker room it is huge.
