Tailing the Komets

Is this proof enough, JR?

Jon Mirasty: ``I look forward to playing with Fort Wayne. I'm really excited about the opportunity. From what I hear the fans are awesome. I'm excited to come to Fort Wayne and finsih the season off there. I'm a player who feeds off the fans and I've already heard good things about the fans of Fort Wayne. I'm really excited to be able to show them what I can bring to the table.'

More coming tomorrow.

Not sure Blake, is that official?

I was just asking a question... No where is there any official word from any team involved... He's still on Elmira's roster and Elmira announced on the 4th other transactions made but nothing mentioned him... Nothing is official until he is here, I believe you've made that statement in the past, and with the way caps are today, you would think that if he's moving, teams would want it official so they can fill his spot. I've been curious and waited until today because this happened during the weekend; but truthfully expected to see something today.

Can't wait to hear chants of "Nasty Nasty Nasty Nasty" echoing thru out the coliseum. I'm hoping he makes his presence known on Wednesday..I know I'll be there for warmups

I understand. He's definitely on his way. I have a feeling this one might be announced by Anaheim, and not Syracuse or Elmira. He won't count against the official roster for the first five games because he'll be an NHL-contracted player, too.

That he was on his way to play Wednesday night. Pretty much it.

The way the Ks have been playing lately, I may actually pay for my playoff tickets on Wednesday. PLAYOFFS?!?

I completely understand why the K's did nothing at the trade deadline. They are on a roll, are getting about as "healthy" as they have been all year, and have Thomas coming back on Wednesday (?). Warner due back on Friday (?). Mirasty scheduled for Wednesday and some decisions are going to have to be made regarding the roster. ( I'm real confused on the vet limit, by the way).

I wish someone could explain to me the Ratchuk situation. He is sent down to Fort Wayne, makes it clear that he is "happy" because he is finally getting a chance to play, makes an impact on the team immediately ( Michael Franke stated he was the "difference" during the Bossier-Shreveport and Texas road trip), then is suddenly called back up to Springfield only to sit on the bench or not dress. When he was called up David Franke was quoted as saying he thought he would be back sometime next (this) week. Then he states that he doesn't know when, or if, Ratchuk will be back.

I know he is in a "contract" year but why wouldn't Columbus want to see what he could do? Sitting on the bench isn't proving anything to anyone, including Ratchuk. Plus, since we have an agreement with Columbus I would think they would have a little desire to see the Komets do well, if at all possible. It sounds to me like Ratchuk in a K's uniform would be a win-win for both the Blue Jacket and Komet organizations.

I guess my frustration in this hinges on the fact that I think the K's defense needs help. They have found a player who can help them both defensively and offensively and he is just languishing on the bench ( maybe not even dressing).

If I were Franke I would be pretty aggresive with Columbus in this matter. (For all I know maybe he is).

David franke has done a pretty marvelous job of re-creating this roster. I personally think the defense needs to be tweaked as we could use another defenseman who can headman the puck up the ice to the forwards consistently and confidently. I think Ratchuk fills that need pretty nicely and have no idea at all why they would have sent him here for a measly three games.

If you know and have an answer, please respond. Thanks.

Alan,
I don't think Franke has much control of the Ratchuk situation. It's up to Columbus. Yes it would be nice to see him with a K on his sweater for the rest of the season, but as I said there are many variables that Franke and Fort Wayne don't control.

Alan
Tue, 02/08/2011 - 1:21pm

Yea, Kometswin, I know the final decision lies with Columbus. What I don't know is why they would call him back to Springfield and then not use him.

I am in no way criticizing David Franke. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease, though.

Lots of possibilities. Trade bait, politics, maybe the K's roster is too full, etc. Who knows? That is why I asked the question.

Still, all those reasons make no sense if you ask yourself why they sent him here in the first place?

Alan, I think part of the reason is that at the beginning of the year, springfield had @11 defenseman on thier roster; but at this point in the season due to trades and injuries there are only 6 d-men on thier roster. I'm sure Ratchuk was recalled to have backup at that position.

That's what happens with an affiliate. You are totally at their mercy, and there's nothing you can do about it. Players, either.

JungleMonkey

Speaking of affiliate assignments, I think Al would trade Francis for Ratchuck if he had his choice in the matter.

Maybe its just coincidence that Francis came down with Pink Eye after his lackluster performance on Friday where he coughed up a huge turnover.. maybe he's not in the doghouse. I like his offensive ability, but the kid is a huge liability defensively.

RunningKomet

Coughing up huge turnovers didn't cost others playing time earlier this season. In fact, I can think of at least one who got increased playing time the more he choked it up.

Springfield had a surplus of defensemen, and that's why they had Ratchuk switch to a forward. I am also frustrated that we have never been able to see him play in Fort Wayne after all the great things we heard about him. Also, I do not understand the "politics" of sending him to Fort Wayne for 3 games and then calling him back to Springfield and then not playing him. Even more frustrating is the fact that when Ratchuk was called back to Springfield, it was stated that he would probably be back in Fort Wayne in a week. Now it is being stated that we don't know when or IF he will be sent back to Fort Wayne. Is this a carrot being dangled for Fort Wayne fans, or do we have no open communication with Columbus/Springfield?

Hello, McFly, wecome to an affiliation! This is exactly what we should have expected. It's how they work. The Komets have absolutely no say in the matter at all. Period. Neither does Ratchuk. And it will never change. Somehow people have gotten the impression that affiliations are good things and operate under normal business practices. Pull my finger!

LOL Blake.

This is why the Frankes have always avoided affiliations as much as possible. When most of the old IHL was affiliated they avoided primary affiliations like the plague. Secondary yes, and even then we went through this same situation with players.

Now if we were just in the AHL where we could multiply this by about 10 or so.

The Bluejackets give and they take away, thats what happens with a working agreement. We don't have any say in the matter. Lets Go KOMETS

Wow.. all the bashing of having an affiliate.. or being an affiliate i should say.. Komets were loaned a darn good d-man for a few games.. we made the most of it and won with him here. Nice to know he wore a Komet jersey for a few games and hopefully he will again. If we are lucky we will see even more skilled players.

Thank you Ratchuck for your hard work and effort while sent to us. Hopefully one day we see you in the big show and we can brag to our friends in the stands that you once played for us! Hopefully we see some more players of this caliber or higher!!

Love being an affiliate. Dont you? yeah I know, there is that factor of roster uncertainty, but you get to see were the hockey product is headed, and get to feel a little pride for one of these players that makes it big.. Maybe we will be lucky and get him down the stretch here. If not then, best of luck and go all the way!

I agree komets123... Delisle was improving every game until his old injury got worse, Ratchuk was more than solid and Francis, although he has flaws, has been a good 3rd line forward for us so far... I have no complaints...

To all you people that want an AHL franchise here. These problems would be a constant problem the whole season year in and year out. The parent NHL club does not care about the AHL team. Only their players is what the care about. Your AHL team is in game 7 if the final playoff series and daddy needs 4 of your best players. Bye bye players and you lose the cup?? Think the NHL cares???? Hell no.

I'd rather see players being talented enough to be in the NHL and getting called up to the show then watching a bunch of has beens and never will be's. To me, the quality of hockey is more important than the championships won.

LOL....Blake, what's the saying....I was born at night, but not last night, baby? Pull your finger, indeed....LOL. You are too funny some days! We go see the Lake Erie Monsters a few times each season (Cleveland's AHL team) and when we went in January, we found out that TJ Galliardi had just been sent down there the day before from the Colorado Avalanche. We were hoping to see him in the LE lineup, but nope. Team doc told us he had an injury, but turned out he was ok and played the very next night in CO (although he was there in the locker room, we got his autograph, a game puck, and a stick!!)!! So you honestly never know with these affiliations. It is great for the fans and terrible for the fans all at the same time. I think you just sort of have to go into it knowing that you will have a lineup that benefits the parent club and not yours, and that you will never ever be the one who will be the beneficiary of the best players if it comes down to a question of who gets them come playoff time or if there is any kind of need.

Who's a has been or never will be, GM? Are you referring to someone like Colin Chaulk, who has scored 14 points in 18 games? Do many NHL players score that many points in as many games?

JR1
Tue, 02/08/2011 - 10:15pm

Nuttintuit....on the flip side, if your parent club is eliminated early from the playoff hunt in the NHL, they normally send down several players (players on 2-way contracts) to get more time in. It works both ways...

IMO, I would love to have these kind of affiliation problems...

I love how if you post something on here people automatically go on the defense of Lord Colin even if he has absolutely nothing to do with it. Not only is he a very good player, he also has Jedi mind powers apparently

I completely agree JR, give me those problems any day of the week. It would be just terrible to watch a player on Saturday night at the coliseum and then on Tuesday on CSN Chicago and vice versa
