Tailing the Komets

Quotes from practice

David Hukalo: I just remember the last six games against them. They all skate fast, hard and like to hit. They are probably one of the hardest-working teams in the league.
Bobby Phillips: They have a couple of veterans with a lot of experience who are good players and a lot of hard-working younger guys, so it's similar to the way it is here.
Al Sims: Obviously Flint was a desperate team at the end of the year, a little more desperate than most teams, trying to make the playoffs. I thought they played that way and played really well and kept it going in the playoffs. They have great goaltending, good defense and they have a couple of great veterans up front with a couple of good young kids. They have a lot of things going for them.
Kevin Bertram: If there was any doubt that we could beat them after the three or four games we played them before that where they beat us, that last game took that out of everyone's mind. We are going to have to play hard to beat them, but it will be a pretty good series.

The quote I would like to have read would've been from Justin Hodgman. It would go something like this; "I will not slash, I will not slash, I will not slash..."

Alan, Ron, Colin's Father and Law and I are coming down for the two home games. What section are you in? I hope to meet Steve and few more of the gang.
Looks to me like the players have a healthy respect for Flint. They know what needs to be done.

Should be "in" law. Although Ron could lay it down back in the day. LOL.

Mike-There really isn't a bad seat in the building. Pick a corner, I think they are the best. The K's attack the south end twice. I have the worse seat in the building. I would love to meet you.

Sounds good Mike, since I live here and don't have to work what works best for you? I have all the flexibility. Lounge before the game or something else.

Was it just me, or was Bert speaking in double talk? I got the rest of what everyone else was saying!! LOL....

I think we definitely have our work cut out for us, but I think we want it pretty badly. Let's go Komets!!

A wise man once said over a month ago when Flint was 10 points out of a playoff spot that the league would be in trouble if Flint managed to get into the Playoffs.
Sticking with that, Flint wins this series in 6 games.

Snuffy, I promise I've not had a foo foo, any pills or swollered any sun tun oil, but could you explain that to me like you would with someone that has Schebigs IQ.

Same here Dschebig, what time do you have to start? What time does the lounge open?

Dschebig
Thu, 05/06/2010 - 7:48pm

I can't do the lounge thing since I will be working. You can find me outside the K's locker room between periods. I will be looking forward to meeting you.

The lounge opens at least two hours before the game, maybe earlier. The doors to the arena proper open one hour before the game. There is an elevator to the lounge from the entrance level of the Coliseum so it's possible to be in the lounge before the doors open to the arena.

If were talking Saturday's game then I guess anytime after 5:30, depending on what works for everyone. Pick a time and let me know. Hopefully Burgee, Alan, and anyone else can make it.

If you need to email me do it at mizzen_1999atyahoo.com, substituting the @ for at of course.

This could be fun, well, as long as Burgee doesn't mix up his pills and overdose on foo foos. That's not a pretty sight from what I hear.

Burgee lol just call it a hunch based on the same feeling I have had about Flint that I had when I "warned" the blog about them being dangerous even as they were 10 points out of a playoff spot.
Unlike the Komets Flint is filled with guys who haven't won much, aren't getting paid much and have nothing to lose. They also have 2 NHL guys who had respectable careers leading the way and a rookie goalie who actually has potential beyond this level of hockey. In other words, they have everything to play for even if they are in some ways playing for nothing at all. And if you look at how Flint walked into Muskegon and Fort Wayne with no fear over the last 2 months and played well, home ice advantage may mean nothing.
The Komets have the edge of playoff experience for sure and if you go position by position on paper may have better name recognition. But if I had money to burn....Flint in 6.

Snuff-Even I understood that. I agree with your breakdown but I still like the Komets in six maybe seven. I think this will be the best play "finals" in a long time. No one will blow anyone out. All games will be close games.

Fri, 05/07/2010 - 6:17am

Dschebig, I will be down there between the first and second. Steve, we will see you around 6:00 on Saturday.
You will know Ron and I because we'll be the two old guys who look lost.
Everyone has put up some good arguments here. Goaltending notwithstanding because that position can steal a series. Winning the one on one battles at home during these first two games breaks the will of Flint and FW wins in 6.

Mike, I sit in 208. Would love to meet you as I have sure enjoyed your contributions on this site. Maybe I could meet you guys when you meet Dschebig. I've never met Dschebig either and I would look forward to meeting him also.

We'll get together Alan. If I don't see you in the lounge before or by dressing room, I will come over to 208 and yell your name. LOL.
Apologies to the other bloggers for the logistics babble.
Let's get ready to rumble.

Sounds good mike, I'm another old guy who's wife swears is lost all the time.... :-)

I'll look for you at the elevator inside the lounge, I should be wearing a Komets baseball cap, mostly black with flashes of white and silver on the bill, Komets logo on front bracketed by two pins, and I have a close trimmed beard.

Any one else making it?

On topic, this should be a great and exciting series. I think everything has been said. The guys really need to be able to take Flints physical play and chirping and hopefully dish it back to them.

IMHO the two most critical aspects are crash the net and stay out of the box.

OK, there is a third, Burgee don't change that underwear!!

I was wondering since game 4 is in Flint next Friday who might be making plans to go. I can haul 3 people or ride if someone else wants to drive. Since I get off work @ 1:00 of Fridays I would be able to leave about anytime. I could go Wednesday but would need to take the day off. I can do that since I am the boss. (that do have it's advantages)

One more thing- Burgee you can keep those stinky "Pink" socks, just wear them to each game. They work! :)

Burgee will be the one with 50 feet of empty space around him....and flies....lots and lots of flies. Keep up the good work, Burgee. ;)
