Red Wings win 4-1

The Komets Legends gave a credible performance but lost 4-1 to the Detroit Red Wings Alumni before an estimated 3,000 fans at Memorial Coliseum. The Red Wings led 1-0 after the first of two periods on a goal by Dan Newman. Detroit came out on a surge to start the second period and led 3-0 on goals by Dennis Hextall and Tom Williams. After Williams scored again to make it 4-0, Dusty Virag finally scored for the Komets.

It was pretty obvious the Red Wings play together regularly, while many of the Komets were playing for the first time in four years.

"Your head still thinks you can do things, but I don't know how I even eat with these hands any more," Colin Chin said. "My brain was telling them to do stuff, but my hands couldn't figure it out."

Thanks for the nod in the story Blake. I do have to give credit to the man who came up with the Bruce Boudreau reference, Denny Schebig. I was going to give one to Barry Scully as well. That was fun to watch and after the game ran into a few of the guys and they all had smiles that wouldn't quit. Just like a bunch of kids who remembered that when you get on that ice, all the worries go away for a while. Even if the skills have diminished with time, a turn on the ice keeps you frozen in time.
