Tailing the Komets

Reiter is GOW

The CHL announced Tuesday that Fort Wayne's Kevin Reiter has been named the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending Feb. 13.

Reiter, 29, won all three appearances during the week allowing only one goal on 70 shots for a 0.33 goals-against average and .986 save percentage.  Reiter began the week with a 21-save performance for a 7-1 win against the visiting Bloomington PrairieThunder Wednesday before snagging back-to-back 2-0 shutouts Saturday at Dayton and Sunday at home against Evansville.

Me thinks they waived the wrong guy. Something was up though when I saw he wasn't getting any PP time and I thought he should have. All the best to him. Worst case scenario ... he gets picked up by a contender to the Komets and turns into another Narauto vis-a-vis points.

Blake you said its hard to find a competent defenseman. Is that why we still have Warner? Look I know I am bashing Warner here. I have been to too many games this year where he has done too many stupid mistakes. But to me there is no coincidence that the Komets starting playing better about the time he went on IR. Their defense was better and it led to better scoring also. If I am wrong I'm wrong. Imao.

Look, it's as simple as this: The hardest player to find in the minors are defensemen who can move the puck. You can find a million guys out there who can play big, clear the front of the net and block the puck. And if that's all you have, you'll lose a ton of games because then there's no one who can get the puck to your forwards. There has to be a balance. Players who can do both are all in the AHL or NHL.

At the AA level, the Komets have a pretty big advantage over a lot of teams right now because they have Dupuis, DeAngelis and Warner who can all move the puck up to the forwards. Why do you think so many teams use fowards on the blue line for the power play? Why do you think Guy has been able to play for 20 years?

The other thing is, there will never be six great defensemen on one team because there's no way they could fit them all under the salary cap. Somebody has to be the fifth and sixth man out of the group and that means they get paid fifth and sixth man money. Somebody has to make the budget work, and I think Brandon is part of that.

Offensive defensemen are always the first player fans love to hate. I've seen it a million times in 21 years. Rob Doyle, Tom Pederson, Craig Channel, Chris Armstrong, Tom Nemeth, Shawn Evans and ever Russian defensemen they've ever had, but you still have to have them. The fact that the Komets might have four now with the additon of Ratchuk is huge.

If you look at the worst Komets seasons over the last 25 years, one major, major factor was because their defensemen could not move the puck.

Oh, no! Don't tell me people hate offensive defensemen, Blake! LOL....is it only in the minor leagues? What about Mike Green, Brian Rafalski...etc....I can only think of those 2 right now. I better move mine up sooner rather than later, I suppose. I don't need people hating on my d-man!!

Musslewhite had great speed. Had hard time finishing. Couldn't be explained better about offensive defensemen. They are going to make mistakes. If they made every play perfect.. They wouldn't be playing here.

He did have a hard time finishing, much like these individuals... (even strength goals). I hope they can pick it up a notch. If they do, we got a shot at going deep into the playoffs.

GM, it wasn't Evans. He was sort of weird, yes, but very mild mannered with a great wife. His father was an ambassador for Canada but I don't remember to what country.

Over the years there have been a few Komets who have had brushes with the law, mostly over fights off ice. When Rob Fowler was here there was a guy who wanted to press charges against him as a result of a fight. The PA told him it would be a waste of time because by the time a court date would come about the season would be over and Rob would be gone. Pretty sure it was one of the incidents at Pierre's.

it seems that the problem we have moving the puck out of our zone is due to the fact that the forwards are standing around.... they do NOT move to open up for an outlet pass...

Steve..I would hate to tell you how many have had problems. I had to get Mark Boileau out bed one night to come and get one out of lockup before all kinds of people got hurt. Actually I was more worried about my fellow officers. I'll never put their names on here so don't ask. To much respect for the players.
