Tailing the Komets

In response to Mike

Mike had a question/comment about the amount of advertising at Saturday's game. He thought there was too much.

It was a bit annoying. The ice looked like a stock car. You've got to wonder when is enough, enough? When do we get to the point where it takes away from the enjoyment of watching the game?

How about the yellow logo on the back of the Motor City jerseys? How tacky was that? At least make it work with the uniform scheme. We've already got ads on helmets, and I'm wondering when we'll have ads on stick blades or goalie paddles or even the goalie helmet. It starting to look more like European hockey rinks every year.

Scott Sproat is an amazing salesman and a class act. He's great at his job. I understand why the Komets and every other minor league team are doing it, but in a way it's like going to the movies. I paid money for my ticket so I can be advertised to? This trip to the restroom sponsored by... I'll leave that to someone else.

I understand it, I don't like it, but I guess it is part of all business today. Not sure what can be done about it. No, this rant was not brought to you by Preferred Auto. But it was presented by The News-Sentinel so I guess I can't gripe too much. Maybe I'll have the NS logo tatooed on a bald spot (famous last words).

Nice blog, Blake. I am looking forward to covering the Komets this year. I just wish the K's staff would give the photographers more than a 4 x 18 inch slot in the glass at the penalty box to shoot through. Shooting from the box would be great otherwise.

I have been a huge fan of the hockey for many years and especially a fan of the K's. I drank from the Turner Cup back in 1993, I think ... it was a good night at O'Sullivans.

Anyway, to comment on this thread,I haven't seen the new ice yet or the advertisements for that matter. I thought they were getting out of hand in the last couple of years. How could they possibly decorate the boards and ice with more ads?

I think putting ads on helmets, jerseys and sticks is going way overboard. Especially for minor-league hockey where players are not going to be seen close-up on TV. If businesses can be persuaded to shell out big bucks for a 4-inch ad on a stick, maybe I am in the wrong profession.

I look forward to reading your columns and hopefully contributing quality Komets photos to the readers.

See you soon,

Actually, Jeff Reynaert had an advertisment on his goalie stick paddles last year.
