Retired numbers

On another post a debate began about retired numbers, and the possibility of Colin Chaulk someday having his number 91 retired. The old rule was you had to play 10 years and they made exceptions for Steve Fletcher who played seven and one UHL game and for Reggie Primeau at eight years. I think they should stick with 10 years, which means Guy Dupuis would be a possibility and that is all until someone reaches that plateau again.

The Komets' current retired numbers:

5 Terry Pembroke; 6 Lionel Repka; 11 Len Thornson; 12 Reggie Primeau; 16 Eddie Long 18 Robbie Laird; 26 Colin Chin; 30 Robbie Irons; 77 Steve Fletcher. There is also 40 for Bob Chase, 58 for Ken Ullyot and 59 for Colin Lister.

To me, that should be it for a very long time. I'm a purist in that I think you have to go back to playing at least 10 years, and that means Guy Dupuis would be the last one to come up for consideration after this season. Retired numbers should be for exceptional players, and it's supposed to be very hard to achieve.

That's also a reason why the Komets re-started their Hall of Fame, to be able to include everyone else who has made sizeable contributions to the franchise.

What do you think?

As another debate, if the Komets had to name their five greatest players of all-time like is being done now in the Major League Baseball promotion, which five would you pick? That ought to keep you busy all weekend. LOL

What a crew that is...Blakes...Mark....Ice King...Amelia....and Komet Warrior? Wow...kind of sounds like the old super hero cartoon...can't remember what it was called..but I think someone may remember it. Now they need the Wonder Twins and then they would be unstopable!

I love my superhero status. I need to come up with some kind of spandex outfit to wear. Now, if only I knew how to sew...

Hit, I think the show that you're referring to was known as the "Superman and the Justice League".....it was from the 1970's. And since everyone is getting very bored.....63 Days until Training Camp and 65 Days until the first Pre-Season Game.

OK, since the topic came up, I'll give you a chance to voice what song you think should be played after goals. Not including RnR Part 2. Remember, you only have 15 seconds from the time the song starts until the gongs ring. It must hit quick and end cleanly. This is just a survey and not what is going to happen. At this point I don't even know what we will be playing this season after goals. Some of the previous suggestions were "Ain't Talking 'Bout Love" by Van Halen (the hey hey hey part), "Boom, Shake The Room" by Will Smith, and "Zombie Nation". If you can come up with a decent song, I'm more than willing to make an edit and see what happens. Maybe with Blakes help we can come up with a post in a few weeks with a sample of each of a few contenders. Once again, this is just a test to see what you would do if you were the one playing the song. Get creative and I'll see what I can do.

I knew it would happen Blake. Like I've said before, you can't please everyone no matter what you play. But if someone can come up with a legitimate song that a majority like, I'll see what I can do. If people would have actually listened to Ole, there was a place where they could have added a chant but no one gave it a chance and just thought of it as a soccer song even though that's the song that the Montreal Canadians used for the past few years. I know everyone on here should be on Last Comic Standing but give me a real song, and it might have a chance.

*Deep breath*

What is the point if adding the chant to a different song when the chant itself was in large part the problem people had with the song being played in the first place? That does not make any sense to me. Nothing against the Ole' song but this is not the town for it. I don't really know how to explain that but we are not watching soccer nor are we in the Molson Centre.

There are not that many anthems or songs played at sporting events that have not been used before so originality is going to be a problem. I am totally against using the Will Smith song as Rockford does a good job with it and anything we would come up with would be almost laughable in comparison. I have always been impartial in using the NYR goal song as a replacement and insert "Komets" where they say "Rangers".
From a pure fan standpoint the answer is easy. Our mainstay in years past is what we know and its what we do best. The song, the chant, the bell....it all fits. The atmosphere and excitement that it brings to the crowd is second to nothing. From a management standpoint I don't know all the ins and outs of the baggage that comes with playing it. I say ask Bingham...what Bingham wants, Bingham will get. LOL

Komet PA,

PLEASE don't inflict any of that CRAP (my word for rap) after a Komet goal. I'm sorry if I tick off anyone else on here, but that stuff is AWFUL!!!! Give me old fashioned rock and roll any day.

I kind of like the idea of using the Who's "Who Are You" when the other team comes out - as I'm sure you're aware though, the NY Rangers used that during a "Who Am I" scoreboard quiz and someone forget to edit the "Who the F... Are You?" line out of the song.
