Opening Arguments

Right target, wrong weapon

Evan Bayh has the right message for Democrats: Pay attention to the middle class. But his solution is, predictably, more government:

Bayh proposed several measures to create economic opportunity for the middle class, including a $6,000 tax credit to make college more affordable, a plan to cut health insurance premiums for 57 million middle-income Americans and a program to boost retirement savings.

Try as they might, Democrats just can't seem to comprehend the notion that, in a capitalist economy, classes are fluid rather than permanent, with people moving into and out of them all the time. The best thing government can do for members of the middle class is to get out of the way and let them get on with moving from there to the upper class. With the government's "help," in the form of billions and billions of dollars spent, many of the poor have become members of a permanent underclass.

I've always said that it's "profitable" to keep a part of our population, undereducated, underpaid, and overentitled.
And the government keeps proving me correct (darn it).

Welcome to a caste system by DESIGN.

That would be the right message for Republicans, too. They seem as bent on using government as a solution for all ills, if only on a slightly smaller scale than Dems. The Libertarians have this one figured out.
