Tailing the Komets

Roster debate

The Komets have some very difficult decisions to make by 1 p.m. Monday when their final roster must be submitted to the league.

Here's the deal: They are limited to 19 players, including goaltenders, and two amateur players who do not count against the 19 or the salary cap. One of those will be Tom Mele. Anyone on injured reserve must be counted on the 19-man roster or they are out. There is no injured reserve list, so even if a guy gets put on before Saturday's game, he would be eligible to play in a Monday playoff game if there was one as long as he is included on the 19-man roster.

The Komets currently have 21 men on their roster, not counting Mele. That means two players are going to be left off the roster. Someone also may get hurt over the final two games and get left off the roster. They are, wisely, holding their other amateur spot open in case they need to go out and get an emergency signee later.

Teams must also still limit themselves to five veterans (goaltenders don't count) and must dress at least five developmental players with less than 128 pro games of experience before the current season started.

Also, I will say this....all it takes is a Pokey Reddick hot streak and any team, regardless of how many regular season wins they have, can raise the cup come may.

I can only pray that Reiter or Boucher can grow a Jeri curl in a week.

Love Mirasty.....there are never fights in playoff games. At least not normally. Not enough to waste a roster spot on an Enforcer who only fights.

I don't need to make any other statements.

Warner and Mirasty off.

This is a no brainer.

But can they leave Boy Wonder off?

We shall see.

Mike in Toronto is off his rocker. LOL

No offense dude.....Schrock? really?

He might be the guy that gives the hardest effort all year long. He plays harder than anyone, and I think has as much or more heart than anyone in a Komet Uniform. I am not saying others don't have heart.....but LKS plays every shift like it might be his last and gives the Komets so many intangibles that other guys don't have, don't give, or aren't willing to give.

Guy....he is old, but he still has stayed pretty solid, and is at least our 4th best D-man most of the time....and dude is like 40 in 75 year old body.

Mirasty only gets limited ice time due to a coach that does not know how to use him. The guy played in the AHL for 4 consecutive years.
Most of the guys on this team couldn't even make an ECHL roster this past season. With that said, if Franke wants Mirasty back next season, I think he'll make the roster. I think guys like Curadeau, Potrosso, and a few others should be left off. Monday we will see!

That got 'em going Snuff. Relax, Hit.
I think Schrock is great.
I had to take a vet and young guy to counter Snuff.
I think Guy qualifies and I know Schrock is MPP.
So that was enough to start it. I should have waited to see how much flack I would take. Have to get my beauty sleep, I really need it.
Great topic, Blake.

Actually the Komets have a good chance in the first 2 rounds becasue of the 5 game series. Much easier to upset an opponent when you only need to win 3 games instead of 4. That is why the 5 game series in baseball sucked. Easier to lose home advantage. Boucher can steal games by himself in the playoffs and don't see why that couldn't happen this year. Mirasty and Apod will be left off because the amatuer is a forward and the Komets always play with an extra defenseman in the playoffs especially with 3 of them who can play forward if needed.

Warner and Mirasty. As much as I enjoy what Mirasty has brought he doesn't really have a place in playoff hockey.

If they leave Warner off it will be a challenge for some bloggers to still find ways to blame him when they lose though I have no doubt some connection will still be made.

Meanwhile Curdy is on pace to have one of the worst +/- ratings in the last 15 years+.

Rumor is that Mirasty has to be back in Syracuse April 1. I'm sure he'll be left off although I think he is a better asset than most of these guys.

Heck i blame Warner when it rains, snows, and when its cold...... So im sure if he is out i can still find blame somewhere! haha Although i like Mirasty it will prolly be him. And of course warner!

Phillips? Really, Bobby Phillips?

I can accept some of the foolish things that are said here and ignore them, but cutting Bobby Phillips might be the most absurd thing I've read here.

Some interesting comments and theories going on here. A few good laughs too! Here are a few of mine:

I have to agree that there just isn't a spot for Mirasty during the playoffs. I just don't think there's going to be the need for a fighter. Cescon and Krug are plenty tough enough to handle those type of situations.

I would also leave A-pod off. The kid has great speed but when he gets where he's going, it's like he doesn't know what to do next. I also think the Lardner-Chaulk-Patrosso line needs to stay together and Coach keeps throwing A-pod into that mix and it messes them up. Patrosso is lost without Chaulk to set him up.

Keeping Bobby Phillips off the roster would be another big mistake. I think he's one of our best defenders when the going gets tough. He's willing to sacrifice himself to keep the bad guys out of our zone. Same goes for PC. He knows how to turn it on for the playoffs. Both have multiple championship playoff experiences under their belts and you can never underestimate that valuable experience!

One more thing - Go K's!!!
