Tailing the Komets

Roster moves

The Komets placed defenseman Brandon Warner on injured reserve today with a sore knee, and forward Olivier Legault with a hand and nose issues. Defenseman Maksim Shirokov somes off injured reserve and will play Friday in Muskegon, while Evgency Saidachev will come off IR on Saturday to play in Bloomington. He's been dealing with a hip pointer. Warner is on seven-day IR dating to Feb. 18, but Komets coach Al Sims said he won't play this weekend.

Sorry, but I am going to mix up this "new" blog a bit. Blake, are the holding Legualt back to save him to a rookie status next year, or are these injuries true. He seemed pretty solid with that hand when he came back. Now he has a nose??? I'm pretty sure a nose isn't keeping him out from playing. I really hope the Franke's are looking at the future.

Probably a little of both. At this time of the season, they rarely need to ``look'' for injuries to put somebody on IR. You'd also be surprised how often a nose can keep someone from playing, especially a fighter. I've seen it many times. As for guys with rookie status, they'd be foolish not to consider that, and they are not foolish. When I asked that question last week, I was told that's something they always take that into consideration at this time of the season if a guy is close. That's just smart business.

This musical chair routine with Legualt is getting a little out of hand. This kid can be a good player if they let him PLAY. If they are not seriously going to play the kid, then maybe they be better off trading or putting him on waivers. He is one of the few who takes the body consistantly, gets in front of the net, will fight who ever whenever. As far as good business sense he may not return next year and based on his limited playing time he more than likely will look for a different home. This is the problem when you carry to many players on a roster. While it is good to have a "back-up" it clearly can be a negative for the ones who always seem to on the "IR". Why not put Pence on IR if the want him to keep a rookie status.

to rank all the forwards then legault is the last man. he is the logical one to sit. what he has to determine is if he would get any more ice time somewhere else or you take the chance of leaving the best team in the league for uncertain terain somewhere else. if he sticks it out then next year if his skills improve then he will get that ice time, its just this year all the forwards are more skilled than he is. we are lucky the komets have kept two extra guys. think of some of the lesser teams that have a hard time keeping a full roster. we are smart and our guys have to be smart in realizing the game plan here. legault has had more ice time than worlton had in the past so it shows they have future plans for him,
