Very general impressions: If I don't mention someone, it's not because they didn't do anything noteworthy, but it's difficult for me to see everything when I'm trying to take photos, video, notes, etc. It's a very limited view of the scrimmage... Rizk is a steal. Greg Puhalski was right in that this kid is ready to go every shift and he makes something happen every time. He's got decent size and he's always in front of the net. Obviously very well prepa... Chaumont is very quick and very smart. He was always creating problems for the defensemen, especially high in the zone. He'd be a pain in the butt to play against... Starenky is very big, and he allowed Dustin Molle to kind of cheat up ice a little bit and he took advantage... Thought the Black team defense did a much better overall job in the secimmage... Boucher looks incredibly refreshed and ready to go. He was relaxed and confident and very much in control. He looked like a No. 1 should. Kevin Beech had some tougher saves to make and I'm not sure he could have done anything on any of the goals... There's some size on the roster, enough that it really makes the smaller guys stand out, and not in a good way... Yngwe reminds me so much of Syroczynski in the way he plays it's scary, except Yngwe might be a better skater. If he plays on a line with Chaulk, he'll score 25 this season... As I said earlier, it was fun watching Leo and Colin go at it. They were physical with each other... There's really nobody who looks like they are out of shape and not going hard.

Guess who got cut in Elmira???

Yep!!!

Let's hope Dayton, Eville, QC, or Bloomy sign him.

PS>...Tell Dave Franke a big NO to signing this clown. The Fanbase will not support that MORAN.

But we would gladly heckle him and Boo him.

I hear Larry is a decent amateur golfer (atleast that's what he claims in drunken ramblings, but he also claims to be a good goalie so yeah...) maybe he could focus in on that? It really is no surprise that he'd be a good golfer tho, he gets an early start every spring.

I agree that I'd love to see him in Dayton or Bloomington, he'd bring entertainment for a change.

When he yells "FORE" is talking about a golf shot gone wrong or the amount of goals he gives up in a period?

Oh please. If Sterling came here he'd be a fan favorite in a week. The guy has a personality, engages the fans (although that can sometimes backfire if it takes him off his game) and put that Port Huron team on his back a few years ago.

The problem is he is too good to be a 15 game a year goalie and I don't want to see anymore of the rotating goalie system. Since they won't trade him, I want to see Boucher play 75%-80% of the games. I think he plays better the more he plays which is why he does well in the playoffs most years.

Larry will always have at least one fan here in FW! Hey Hit, what is a "MORAN"? It must be really awesome since you're using it to describe Larry. I hope he does go to Dayton since Boucher can't stand to have serious competition for the starting spot =)

No offense Snuff....but have you been putting together any models this Am....??? That's just Krazy talk.

Mr Snufflupugus
Wed, 10/12/2011 - 11:02am

Hit it is moot because I don't think he is a good fit here.

Jerseygirl I think it wasn't Boucher who didn't want competition. I think it was an organizational choice. Boucher will always be a hero in this town. He did what Frenchy could not, get over the hump and bring championships to this town. But talent wise there is no doubt in my mind Frenchy was the better goalie strictly based on talent. I think Rob Nolan is a better goalie than Boucher strictly based on talent. But if you have an A- (Frenchy, Nolan)goalie and a B+ goalie (Boucher, Sterling) then it becomes more about what the team is doing in front of him. Frenchy, Nolan and Sterling have not had teams in front of them like the Komets have provided Boucher. Had they had the same team Boucher has had there is no doubt in my mind any of those guys could have won championships here.

Just thinking...and I don't know if the league would allow it that he'd come on to the ice with LARRY on the back of his jersey instead of his last name.

Mr Snufflupugus
Wed, 10/12/2011 - 11:03am

oops... last part should have said "If Sterling ever signed here that he'd come on to the ice with LARRY...."

You two continue your love affair with Sterling. Nobody else is buying it. They guy is done. His last year in PH was below average and his skills haven't progressed since. He just got the ax in Elmira and will end up in the ECHL.

Snuff of all people, you'd hate the move. He's 29. On the wrong side of the "hungry line" you always quote.

JungleMonkey

Sterling would come on the ice with Larry... and Doug, Todd, Sitach, Dale, Poppy, and whatever other Schizo personalities are inside his head..

Jerseygirl, once upon a time in blogland, there was a little blogger who desired to question the mental capability of another. During the tirade, this person wanted to call his or her blog victim a moron. However, instead of "moron", they spelled the word wrong. It came out "moran".

It is always more convincing, I think, that when one starts to question another person's intelligence, that they don't show their own ignorance by misspelling words, don't you?

And where exactly is Larry a good fit? I can't see a single situation right now where his clown act fits a roster. Not even in Bloomy where they have 3 recreational goalies battling for the backup spot. His attitude, meltdowns, and average talent is not good enough to be a #1 in this league, and no one would want to risk chemistry making him a backup....

SPHL is his fit.

Ironic.

KSP was a good goalie and a great guy, but the 3rd best goalie to play here in the 2000's behind Lawson and Boucher.

Two post above should read Larry will end up in the SPHL. (not ECHL)

There goes Snuf being the all knowing hockey expert again. I guess Frenchy with his teams in the UHL weren't stacked were they? They didn't rack up high enough win totals for you? And who anointed you a goalie expert? LOL...you are talking in hypotheticals. You cant make an educated decision based on such a small sample size in games seen for both Sterling and Nolan. You saw them for what? 7 games a season versus 20+ for our goalies. Just because a guy can get up and be motivated to play Ft Wayne doesn't mean he plays well against the other teams. In fact, their career save percentages speak high enough for me. That tells a story of a season, not seeing them come to the coliseum 4-8 times and play in front of great crowds versus the crap they were playing in front of. Food for thought

JM I can't even put Lawson into this discussion. He had one good year in his career and that season went 29-15. When he was good he played out of his mind. But due to injuries and other factors including that he only played one year here I can't put him in with Frenchy or Boucher.

I also never said I wanted Sterling here. You are right he is the wrong side of 28. I have said I want Nolan here.
If I were Sterling (and since as "andy" says I am the hockey expert...and all knowing) I'd sit and wait for a goalie to get hurt or flame out rather than try to rush into a training camp this late in the game. By January 1st I bet you see him on a roster playing on a regular basis.

JungleMonkey

Lawson played in 66 AHL games with a 2.52 GAA and .921 sv %

Frenchy played in 3 AHL games with a 3.75 GAA and .852 sv%

The number of games alone speaks to Lawson's superior talent, let alone the fact that he was signed to a higher level contract.
