This was an all effort goal by Chewy..

Hit Somebody!!!
Sat, 05/08/2010 - 8:54pm

That goal was a thing of beauty.

Chewy was the best player on the ice tonight, with Hodgy not far behind.

I like what Big Al did tonight to try and force the play of Flint. He mixed up the pairings and lines to force Flint to try and match-up with us and it worked. Hodgy being moved to the #2 line, and then to the 3rd line was an advantage for us, and Huk up to the topline to add some defense on Rheume and Smolinski's line, well it shut them down pretty much.

I have a feeling that Monday is going to be rough and tumble out there. Tonight wasn't so much.....other than Cescon roughing up Chaulk all night long. But Bert did the samething to Smolinski and he did it well.

This is going to come down to physical play and match-ups.....I don't think Flint can match-up with us man for man.

Monday is huge ladies and gentlemen.

Oh, to describe that goal, he caught the puck, dropped it to the ice, and slapped it past Nolan.....

Sweet Goal.

Chewy's goal reminded me of some other huge goal we have seen...game 7, 3rd OT...and it was passed from the same person...Guy! Chewy must be watching the game tape of Hodgys goal in that game....Nice Goal.

I was thinking the same thing, Janice! That was one sweet goal.

Yeah and Guy Dupuis had a terrible game? Three points and the winning goal. Hit do you take a hit to the head tonight?

LGK,

Did I say Guy had a terrible game?

He had a great game, too. I was commenting on Chewy and Hodgy, they were incredible in the offensive zone tonight skating the puck around defenders and setting up big plays around the net, and they both played the body.

Point where I said anything bad about Guy LG, and then I won't call you out for attacking others comments, wiseguy.

To say call out two players and not mention Guy was a mistake and too many of you all year said he was an old man.Well without the old man the Ks would have lost tonight.

Sorry I didn't mention your grandson Mr. Dupuis......gheesh.

You didn't mention anyone else.....so who are you to say someone else made a mistake....

Plus, the thread contains a picture of Chewy.

What is Chewy doing in this picture???

Any clue Mr. LGKOMETs???

So I apologize to you for making the comment that Chewy had a great goal, and that I thought he looked like the best player on the ice tonight.

Get over yourself.

Chewy brings so much to the Komets. His hustle is non-stop. I am always doubly gratified when his hard work is rewarded with a goal of his own.

LG, lots of players had good games last night. Dupuis included. I think when Al Sims gets to review the game tape he will find lots of players who played a strong fundamentally sound game.

Hit Somebody's comments were not meant to exclude anyone.

This was a pretty interesting game and I think both teams played well. As I wrote on the other thread, it was fun to me to hear all the sounds of the game during warm-ups before they got the speakers working above the Bud Zone. After that I just got to hear the echos and muffled portions of announcements. Personally, I would've rather they'd left it off if it wasn't going to work correctly, so then I could've heard everything that was happening on the ice. However, I do understand sponsors must get their plugs read and that there are people in the stands who cannot read the penalties on the scoreboard. I get all of that, I'm just saying I really liked hearing the skates on the ice, the sticks cracking the puck on each shot and pass, and the players and refs yelling at each other. It was just a nice change, even if it was unintended and did not last long.

I was impressed with the vast majority of the team tonight. I won't start to mention names, for fear of leaving one of the assistant trainers off my list and upsetting a fellow blogger. Guy is old though, whether he's playing good or not, and I don't think that can be disputed. However, he did have a good game tonight, as did the vast majority of those out there in orange and black.

Nice personal attack Ashley except I don't even know what IFB is. I just want credit to go where it's due here. The nellies were all over Dupuis at the start of the year that he was too old and needed to retire and now he is driving the bus and got the winning goal last night and assisted on both goals last night. Without the Dupuis pass there would be now Chewy goal.

i was thinking the same thing, Janice. i even told my other half, it reminded me of Hodgy's goal in game 7 two years ago.

I guess its ok for LGkomets to personally attack everyone else; but not ok if someone takes a shot at him... LOL!

Watch out Hit, not only do you have to have your objective posts ripped apart, now some are moving on to ripping apart your positive posts.........

Nice win K's. Now are playing out in front in the series. I thought the game was pretty boring for most of the game, it had its exciting parts like Chwedoruks goal; but I thought it looked like the K's had too much time off and the Gens not enough... A win is a win and thats what is important in the end... Looking forward to a great game on Monday. Go K's!

I to thought it was kind of a boring game. I thought Hawthrone for the most part did a good job tonight. Yes, he missed some, but we have grown to expect that.

I thought the defense was excellent tonight. From Bertram shadowing Smolinski to Warner who was excellent again. I thought Chewy played a great, great game.

I also thought Flint played well. Nolan was darn good tonight..this is gonna be a great series...

There is not much negative from this game..everyone played a sound defensive game..

Nice job Komets

on to game 2

Jim Hawthorne is the best ever! I wouldn't dispute 1 call he made last night, I would dispute them all, then superfan would find some obscure rule somewhere to prove my Jimmy right! It could have been welker or hoberg and that would have really stunk, those two stink.

Me and Griff were hanging at the foo foo stand staring at hit wearing the green body suit.

I tried ordering a bratworst at the concession stand but was told some Savage had them all delivered to the press box.

Bob kept the official foo foo count for game 1 of the series.

It was neat to see 2 fan buses from flint, I can't recall in recent history a team bringing more than 1.

I sure miss the Nellies and all their doom and gloom.

Luxmore will ref monday night, langdon wednesday and Hawthorne Friday. Anyone else and I'm writing Brad Jones a letter.

OK, I know as a columnist you try to get people stirred up a bit. I understand you want people talking, but I have to say that Bill Khan from the Flint media is spewing quite a load of puke with this column: http://www.mlive.com/generals/index.ssf/2010/05/050810-bill-khan-column.html

He goes as far as to suggest, twice, that the Komets do not heed the league salary cap. He also poses a quote from Smolinsky, a man whose played more than 1,000 games in the show, as if to suggest that he is just amazed by the fan support and that the environment is just like something they've never experienced.

Come on guys. You've been to Fort Wayne before. You know what it's like at the MC, and you have two guys who have played in front of crowds double the size of the Komets' crowd. So how about dropping the, "Oh, my goodness we're such underdogs. The Komets are such a revenue juggernaut there's no way we should be able to compete," BS?

I know the story is for the Flint readers so they can feel good about the "little guy" competing against the mighty Komets organization, but it also creates a built-in excuse if Fort Wayne should win this series.

Flint has a good team that has come through a tremendous amount of adversity. Don't tarnish their accomplishments by suggesting that if the Gens lose this series it was because all the good players came to Fort Wayne for the money and it was really expected all along because of off-ice factors. If I were a Flint player I would take issue with that column.

Well, instead of insulting Fort Wayne for supporting its hockey team, he should be thanking you fans for being there to give them a boost too.

You tell them Chad. Great post, I couldn't have said it better so I will not try!

JR
Mon, 05/10/2010 - 8:12am

Nice post Chad; but I am gonna look at that article from a different angle... I think its great that we know that at least 2 writers made the trip from Flint to cover the Gens in the finals.... That's great for hockey in Flint and possibly the IHL...

As far as the article goes, I think we would be fooling ourselves if we didnt admit that playing in Ft Wayne has its added "perks". These perks could be things as simple as having an eviction free place to live during the season, or having the equipment needed to play without paying for it themselves, etc... Our arena is pretty nice to...
This article was written for the Flint area and its fans, so of course its gonna be written from the David vs. Goliath angle. People have a soft spot for the underdog and an article like that could spark some increased attendance in Flint to root on David...

I will say that maybe some of the Flint press could write about how Flint wouldnt have been able to attract the type of talent they did this year without the Kinney's and Frankes financial backing....

I agree that playing in FW definitely has its advantages in this league, JR. I'm not going to say that the K's don't operate on the outside of the rules, but I'm also not going to say that they do either because I just don't know.

My point was simply to say that Khan shouldn't make those claims without solid knowledge, first, and second why would he want to diminish the team he's covering by giving it an excuse for failure? He's suggesting that if the Komets win this series it was just because they bought a third straight Cup. That's what is BS. Those Flint players fought this season to get where they are, and I believe they have a good chance to win it.

They've got very good players just the same as Fort Wayne has very good players. I think it is irresponsible to make those claims. And if he's got solid knowledge or a source that proves his claims then come out with it.

His intentions worked. Here I am, talking about the column. I just think there was a bit of irresponsible reporting going on in that story.
