Blake, any idea why they never call the visiting team for delay of game when more than the starting 5 come out on the ice for the second or third? I thought the CHL made a big deal, even warning the Komets in the pre-season and calling it on us once early on in the season, that they were watching teams very closely for extra players coming out to skate before the faceoffs. (and also going to the locker room before the ref waves them off) Have they just let the rule gone or the refs are that bad they can't see it?

Give me a break! Quad City played in Fort Wayne on Friday, Evansville on Sat and Dayton on Sun last weekend and has the samething with next weekend. The Komets have two home games this weekend and your complaining about the travel! But its good that you have the excuse ready and out there.

Around a couple of weeks ago (give or take) the visiting team was called for a delay of game penalty coming out of the intermission... So its happened; but it has happened to the K's more often at home... At this point in the season, it amazing guys/teams are still forgetting....

Are they forgetting or it just because they don't call it every time so they can get away with it? The past three games, the visiting team has done it each time. Plus I haven't seen the officials out on the ice to past few games for warm-ups. Have they stopped that?

Good questions that I can only speculate on...

The CHL has only a handful of guys (ref's and linesman) that are full time CHL refs and those are the guys that are probably more likely to call penalties like what you are referring to.

Most of the ref's we see also call games in just about every league in the country... I know not too long ago we had a ref who had called a USHL game the night before, if I remember right. There are bound to be little differences between the different leagues or levels of hockey when it comes to rules or even how the leagues are stressing to thier ref's what to pay extra attention to. Could get confusing, for sure.

Also, I bet the games are called differently based on wheere the ref's are in their respective careers... Younger guys who are still hoping to make it to calling games at the NHL level are probably calling games strictly by the book, with little leeway given to the players in hopes that maybe anyone reviewing thier work will see thier knowledge of all the rules...??? Guys who know they are stuck at this level maybe be just happy with calling things relevant to the actual game and how its played in regulation...???

All just speculation on my part; but I think fans do have to remember that this is a developmental league not only for the players; but for a good amount of young ref's too....

I'm not sure that I agree with those who were not impressed by Ratchuk. The guy has the quickest first step I have seen in a long time, can stick handle the puck beautifully, and knows how to throw accurate passes. I hope he stays around for a long, long time.

I'm not sure that I agree with Blake's prediction for the weekend. Yeah, they had a long trip to Quad City after the game, but it is part of the minor leagues. I'm more concerned with the Quad City team rather than fatigue. The same goes for Sunday in the rematch against Dayton.

These games have real importance attached to them and I hope skill and adrenalin take over.

Keep denting the twine.

Blake is a closet Negative Nellie.

Mark this one done when the Komets prove him wrong.

The linesmen & ref watches warm-ups from the stands in the CHL. This has been like this all year. I'm surprised a brawl has not happened.

Normally I'd agree with you Andy, except Dayton doesn't have a game tonight. Unless the Gems all go out and party hard, they will have a definite advantage.

Yee haw!! Got my third win of the year last night. Mirasty makes two shifts in the last two minutes and everybody on the Gems acted like they were alter boys. Very funny!

I may have missed it in an earlier response when I asked this a while back....but is there an actual reason for not letting the whole team warm up on the ice between periods? Or is it "just the rules"? I would think only letting the starting 5 would make them more prone to an injury, but what do I know?

But I thought you said the tougher the K's schedule was, the better they played.

I'd have to agree that these two games could be tough ones. QC is trying to get a firm hold on 3rd. Meanwhile, win or lose tonight, Sunday's game will be for possesion of 7th. If the Gems have any fight in them, they won't want to give it up. They'll want to answer for Friday's loss as well. This is not the time for the Komets to let up on the gas. It would certainly be a setback if they lose both.

That's true, but there are limits to anything. And I agree with what else you said.

Wendy
Sat, 02/19/2011 - 10:39pm

That puts them into 7th, at least until tomorrow. Bloomington could move into 3rd with a a win over Evansville.
