Schedule changes for 2010-11

The International Hockey League (IHL) announced that the Board of Governors completed the second part of the Semi-Annual Meeting via conference call Tuesday afternoon.

The IHL announced that the 2010-2011 regular season will consist of a 70-game schedule with each member club playing 35 home games and 35 road games. The 2010-2011 season will be 24 weeks long, beginning on October 15th, 2010 and concluding on March 27t, 2011.

``We believe by reducing the schedule to 70 games allows us to complete the regular season and playoffs in a timely manner.” stated Dennis Hextall, IHL President/Commissioner. “After talking with fans, we believe it is in our best interest to achieve this goal to help improve our product.”

The 2011 Turner Cup Playoffs will be beginning on April 1st, 2011 and plan on concluding no later than April 30th, 2011.

Shorter season, same season ticket price??????

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 4:39pm

Oh NO! OCT. 15 is when our baby is due...... Looks like im missing some games next season! I hope i can get WOWO in the delivery room haha

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 5:26pm

mightbite i am with you. season tickets are not that big of a break the way it is. shorter season=less of a break

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 5:38pm

Yeah, but you get perks.

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 5:41pm

You mean there is going to be an IHL next year...but...all the doom and gloom....I am so confused.

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 5:48pm

Yeah, how can they talk about the number of games if we don't even know what teams or if there is a league. Also what perks do we get Wendy? They only real perk was the STH family party with the players and I don't think we are having that this year. I was very disappointed!

Yay, shorter season! My kid will be a travel hockey boy (I'm thinking positive), so I'll be missing fewer games than I did this season. Best news I have heard all day.

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 6:57pm

Who really goes to that party anyways. I agree. What perks. I garauntee prices will stay the same. Another reason not to renew.

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 7:50pm

Blogfoul, each time someone says they are not going to renew their seats they need to post their seat numbers in case they are good seats and maybe a fellow blogger can snatch them up. I try to go to all the parties, the kids love them.

I'm all right with a shorter season, gives the basketball and football team a few dates they don't have to fight about so they can "fill" the coliseum with 8,000 fans. Was that sarcasm? I just can't get into that D league stuff the whole experience is just not entertaining, the football was fun the year they led the league in attendance. I made 3 games that year, all on free tickets

Definite blogfoul on Chuckitt -- we have an official truce on that word! BTW, saw your picture in the NEIAB HOF banquet photos. Sorry I couldn't be there that night.

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 8:01pm

What I would like to know is will the schedule be more consistent? I'm guessing that this will likely force teams to get away from playing 1 or 2 games a week in October/November then playing 4 games in 5-6 nights like we're doing in March.

Burgee, I just got home from taking a group to a Mad Ants game (won freebies thru school) It was fun, but it's a totally different type of experience. I can't see myself investing in season tickets... I'm guessing that the crowd was 3200 tops....and that was with $1 soda for Thirsty Tuesday....half of the concession stands were closed.

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 8:22pm

I don't see where naysayers been banned yet or pochkisser or whatever that other one is.

Tunker has been proposed as an official stop for the superfan spring break 2010 trip, dunkirks just not getting the votes.

Wonder what teams will be on that schedule.....that is all that really matters to me.

Will people get excited about Dayton, Flint, Evansville, Bloomy, PH, and QC?

Another year of dwindling ownerships and hockey fan bases in the IHL?

Those are the things that need to be addressed in my book.

Cart before horse on this topic in my opinion.

Not being negative at all, just curious about the product.

I can't stand naysayers, nellies, or whatever else we're calling them because they rip on the Komets, but in my next paragraph I'll make fun of the other teams in Fort Wayne because I don't like them. No issues with hypocrisy there. Cha Ching.

LOL....++ Frozen......Cha Ching.

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 10:08pm

Perhaps my perception is a bit off which is quite possible but it seems to me that now that the team seems to be doing well that a group of posters on this blog can't find much negativity to pile on the players, coach, and owners (with one exception) so they are now attacking other fans on here.

Na, that's not what's happening is it?

I wonder, if the Komets go on another two game losing streak will the criticism of the team return?

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 10:11pm

I do think the shorter season is a good idea at this level.

I also wonder about season ticket prices but I guess we'll have to wait and see. BTW, when was the last time the price went up? Anyone know, I honestly can't remember.

I'm still waiting on the free parking I was promised with my season tickets after the paving was paid for.

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 11:58pm

Well for one thing, you get different different tickets than everyone else. You get those neat ones with pictures on them. Seriously though, since I'm not one, I can't make a list for you. All I know is that every time I turn around I hear some mention of a special offer for season ticket holders only. I guess you have to be on the outside looking in to notice, but they have things going on all the time for you guys. Maybe they aren't fantastic deals that you would bother yourself to take advantage of, but us poor people still feel envious when we hear those announcements. And it goes without saying that we also roll our eyes when we hear you guys complaining about not getting enough perks.

Wed, 03/17/2010 - 12:01am

Okay, here's one for starters. Getting in to the EOS party for free! Not a big deal? Not if your wallet and stomach are both empty.

Wed, 03/17/2010 - 1:24am

Wendy, as far as I know, the only "real" perks we get at the games are coupons/discounts at the souvenir stand/Komet Kuarters, and even those are relatively minor. Getting into the EOS party for free is nice, but in the grand scheme of things, we still have to pay for everything else once we get inside the party, just like non-STHers.

As for the other "fantastic deals" you've heard for season ticket holders only, I would very much like to hear the same announcements you're hearing because I definitely haven't heard anything like that this year and I've only missed one game. We still had to pay $40 to get into the Dinner & a Komet thing like everyone else. We still pay parking like everyone else. The season ticket holders party was really the only "exclusive" thing we had, and even that has been reduced from what it once was, especially this year (no party whatsoever).

I just looked at the season ticket holder details on the Komets site and it doesn't even mention a STH party, so maybe we weren't promised one to begin with. Awesome.

Wed, 03/17/2010 - 1:37am

As I said, I'm sure you don't consider them "fantastic deals". But when you're on the outside looking in, anything that STH people get that the rest of us don't looks pretty darn good. It's like if you went to a restaurant and everyone got 50% off dessert except you. If you ate there regularly and liked dessert, it would begin to annoy you every time you heard someone say, "All we get is 50% off a stupid dessert! Who cares about that?"

Wed, 03/17/2010 - 2:16am

Lots of McDonalds coupons=I don't eat there./ I will miss musky=always someone to dislike & good games.

Wed, 03/17/2010 - 2:23am

No party that is a bummer. I always looked forward to those. In regards to the Parking should atleast pay half the price if nothing else for season ticket holders. The reward points wow they need to change it to different prices and less points for each item. They should carry over from year to year if you do not get to use them. For me I wouldn't want to throw a shirt or the other things that they say you can do. IHL well I hope there is one too.

Wed, 03/17/2010 - 2:30am

Okay. Had a look at the official website. Orange Collar Card... Hello?! That stuff looks pretty sweet to me. I suppose you'll tell me that you only get 1/4 of a point per game, but having the opportunity to sit in the press box for a night or throw t-shirts with Icy would be priceless!

The shorter season is something that the IHL needed. The price of SEASON TICKETS more than likely will stay the same.Lack of season ticket holder perk's like meet the KOMETS. This event needed a work over. I didn't attend last year, I remember the team had more one event like "Dinner with a KOMET" used to have a couple KOMET waiter nights at several eateries. So you "negitive nellies or naysayers" should look at the positive We still have KOMET hockey so GO KOMETS

Wed, 03/17/2010 - 6:30am

I'll renew my tickets. I love getting a free drink when I purchase $120 worth of food at McDonalds.

The perk is, I don't have to go buy tix every week or wait in line. I get the same seat and don't have to deal with idiots that yell "SHOOT!!!" or "HAND PASS" or "TOO MANY MEN" all night... I like the people I sit by, and they aren't idiots. Except for when they don't come and "scarf guy" moves into thier seats...

I'm going to go to games because I love hockey. Does it feel rewarding to watch the Komets beatup on teams that average 18% of our attendance? Not really. But hey, what else are you going to do? Pierre's? Roller Dome? The Franke's have got ya folks... Pay your money, smile, and move on with life.. You're all hear because you love hockey. Just pay and get on with life.. You're going to develop an ulcer getting worked up over it.

Here's my other option.. Every STH comes up with $1200. ($1200x3500STH's) =$4.2Mil.. We buy the team and do what we want with it.. You think we all argue now... LOL!

Wed, 03/17/2010 - 6:31am

hear=here.. No posting before 830am for JungleMonkey.

Wed, 03/17/2010 - 7:00am

Ditto to what JM says. I wholeheartedly agree with him. Bottom line, I love hockey, I like my seat and I really like those who sit around me. We have a great time no matter what the outcome of the game because we all just love hockey. I'll renew my tickets too. Go K's!!!

Wed, 03/17/2010 - 7:47am

Every time the other team changes lines I hear half the crowd yell "Too Many!!!".Seriously? It used to bother me but now I just have to laugh, good stuff. Happy St. Patty's Day to all.How about a hat trick for OC tonight to celebrate? Go K's

As far as season ticket holder perks go, I do appreciate the 10% off that you can get (especially in this economy). Could the perks be better, yes, but they are what they are. Like JM and Teresa215, and any other season ticket holder, the perks are not what draws us to the games. The seat location (our seats are about 9 steps from the bathroom; 12 steps from the popcorn, 7 steps from the ice cream; but more importantly, 8 steps from the beer); the other people we sit around (the other season ticket holders in our section are fantastic); knowing that our seat will always be there; but the reason we are here is for the hockey. (oh JM, I am guilty of yelling too many men but only when it's the opposing team...lol).
