Tailing the Komets

The season is over

And good riddance. This was one of the strangest years I've seen with the Komets. No matter how hard they tried, the pieces just didn't seem to fit. They played hard tonight, but Rockford played just a little bit harder. Rockford got all the bounces in this series because the IceHogs earned them.

More to come later.

Thanks for a Great... trying to make the pieces of the puzzle fit??? 43 players have been on the Komet roster this year??? I think the first two that they need to sign are Chaulker and Kelly Miller! It's anybody's guess after that.............. Just to little to late for this season, Oh well, end of season party should be next week sometime!

From the lows early on to the highs of mid season to the lows at the end. This has been an aggravating yet fun season.
This could be worse. We looked like Missouri or Roanoke at the start of the year. The pieces never fit but at least the Frankes tried to correct the mistakes and gave Fort Wayne another competitive team. I look forward to seeing what happens next year.

Man was this one crazy year! I just have to say thanks to all the komet players for giving all their heart and desire during this season. They might not have won every game but they tried their hardest to due this city proud and I thank them for that. It was hard to watch them fall short as they did this year, but this could have been a lot worse then what it was. I hope to see alot of them again next and for those that move on I wish them all the luck to having great futures. Here's to the 2005-2006 Fort Wayne Komets. Thanks for the memories! GO KOMETS!!!!!

another long summer with no cup starts lol..jk..I know we can't win every year..but I can't sleep because I'm so very disappointed.

This is the first time the Komets have been ousted in the 1st round in the UHL...that in itself is truely aggravating...

how much does anyone guess that Coach will be back next season?

Well we all need to make sure we go out and show them how much we support them win or lose. That's what any true fan would do. Hope to see a lot of you there.

Thanks to all the fans for this season. It's been a long rough season with more ups and downs than a bad soap opera. I'm finishing off a beer and dreading the next 5 months without hockey and the joy that the roar of the fans bring into my life. You all are great, and even though we didn't get a ring this season, at least we arent the Cubs. Thank you all, and I wish we had a chance to do all the fun things we had planned for Saturday nights game. Oh well! We'll regroup and try to give you the best we can next year. Have a great summer and we'll see you in the fall or at least this Tuesday night. Now, who am I going to have bag on me for the next few months now that the season is over...Blake?????
Have a safe summer!!

Blake let me be the first to publicly thank you for the time and effort you have put into this blog. You already worked too many hours before you took on this project and I am sure none of us take for granted the time you spent posting and interacting with us. Thank you for giving us a quality forum to get news and rumors and to vent and cheer. It has made this tough season enjoyable.

Thanks for all the work you have done on the board this year.

I'd say a big thanks to all who are involved with the komets but with bad coaching and bad management its just not possible. So thanks to everybody else.

Ok, let me stir this a little. Even if I agree that this team was not put together very well at the start, does one bad season = bad management? These are not my Maple Leafs who have not smelled a cup since 1967. This management group has put winning teams on the ice that had at least a chance to contend more often than not. Did they do their best work this year? Probably not. But I think they have earned some benefit of the doubt. I would bet they make corrections for next season. History says that the Frankes learn from their mistakes. I believe that they will continue to bring quality hockey to Fort Wayne.

And when I say "bad season" they did end up with the 6th best record in the league. We as fans are lucky that the standards set by the Frankes make that a bad season.

Heather your killing me over here lol...

again I can't say it was a great season..a great season ends with the Cup..they had a decent season..all the ups and downs..they remained competitive...

Now I hope management pulls thier collective heads out and gives us a team to be proud of..I can't say other than a couple of the players..I'm real proud of this team..

with that said..

Thanks Blake for doing this blog..
And all the things you posted for me about my son....it was all greatly appreciated..

Blake - thanks for your time and effort to keep this going.

Larry - great job on the PA all season.

Heather
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:21pm

How can you not be supportive of the whole team? Who are the ones you don't support? And why am I killing you? Do you think I don't know what I'm talking about?

Mark
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:24pm

you said bad coaching and management..enough said...

Do I support the whole team yes, but at the same time, I am very disappointed in most of them, I expected more. namely Drouin and Jorde..these 2 players IMO, needed to step up in the absence of Chaulker and Neumey..neither did.

Heather
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:26pm

Well IMO the whole team needed to step it up they let them score 22 goals this series how messed up is that. So if it isn't bad coaching and management who is it? The players....the fans.....give me a break.

Tony E
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:29pm

I think we may find out a few of these guys were playing hurt. All teams hide injuries this time of year. But the Komets didn't have any depth due to the injuries of Chaulk and Newm.

Mark
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:32pm

whoa slow down heather...I'm not going against you..

the defense was bad.. thats what it was..when you are missing 2 of your best defensive players..you are gonna have major problems..

Mark
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:33pm

Tony E..totally agreed..I think that right there lyes with the Frankes and bad management and not realizing tha and making am a move at the deadline..they needed more depth and they didn't go get it..

Thanks Blake...AKA Super Fan. I have got onto your blog site every night that it has been in existance this year. Wow...I just admitted that? Oh well, it has been fun. Hope that everyone realizes that some of my rants were only to stir it up rather than tick everyone off. Thanks to all the bloggers who have made the debates on here fun. Remember one thing about this season that Enema Man told me...Hockey is like a crap sandwich...the more Bread you have, the less crap we have to eat. Not sure how that works with this team...but it sounded good. Hope to see Chaulker, Venedam, Goodwin on the #1 line next year with Kelly Miller on the #2 line. Another off-season of looking for big physical scoring forwards ought to keep us well entertained. Keep us all informed Blakester.

Heather
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:35pm

You know I'm not going to sit here and say that the coach and management are always bad because we have been good years before but it just so happened this season there was something definitely wrong there. Did coach reall say if we lose blame him? If so that there qualifies as bad coaching.

Tony E
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:35pm

Larry I would like to thank you as well and I would also like to give a shout out to Scott Sprout. A class individual whose innovative ideas made every Komets game I attended this year even more entertaining and enjoyable.

Hit unless Venny gets divorced, I don't think he is coming back here.

Mark
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:37pm

Your right heather, they aren't always bad, this year was just a bad year, nothing worked it seemed. They made moves to try and improve this team, but in the end, it was nearly good enough..back to the old drawing board as they say..hopefully, it a lot better this time around

Heather
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:37pm

He's coming to visit this summer.

Mark
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:37pm

thats suppose to say not nearly good enough...lol oops..i need to go to bed

Mark
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:38pm

I think venny works with Chaulker in his hockey school...maybe chaulker can talk him into playing here again...
