Tailing the Komets

The season is over

And good riddance. This was one of the strangest years I've seen with the Komets. No matter how hard they tried, the pieces just didn't seem to fit. They played hard tonight, but Rockford played just a little bit harder. Rockford got all the bounces in this series because the IceHogs earned them.

More to come later.

Mark you may be right though they got Domber around the deadline and I believe he was a more than pleasant surprise.
Folks I would look to moving younger next year. I personally hope they check out the large number of undrafted players coming out of the OHL and the Quebec League and get some hungry 21-22 year olds in town who have aspirations of moving up and with something to prove.

Tony E..

Domber was an excellent pick up..I'd like to see him back next season. He wasn't a trade deadline pick up..he was a waiver wire pick up, which the Frankes worked like majic this season..which is why, they need to do thier homework in the summer, and they don't have to pick up any other teams dirty laundry

Tony E
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:54pm

Lol Hit, a little slow tonight? lol
I really believe that they need to be unafraid to make some big time changes. I believe NOBODY on this team is untouchable. You may say I am nuts, that you don't get rid of Chaulk etc. Well, I say that all depends on what you would get in exchange. This team lost in the first round. While I would like to see some of these guys back, if it takes trading one of them or letting a popular vet go in order to bring in some new young talent, maybe that is the way to go. Personally I would like to see Chaulk retire a Komet and would of course like to see him back. I just don't think any of them should go to sleep tonight assuming they earned a return contract.

Mark
Fri, 04/28/2006 - 8:57pm

none that played tonight..correct...Chaulk hasn't played in weeks...I'm not sure what the Komets record is since he went down..but I'm pretty sure it's not that great...4 wins I think..Chaulk is a huge part of this team, and a player that the Komets should build around

Mark, who was the guy who took his jersey off and waved it after fighting Jorde? He allegedly was bailed out of jail by his wonderful coach in the past couple of weeks for beating up his girlfriend/wife and also it was reported that the same model citizen broke into a woman's house and committed alleged crimes. Lots of links are out there, and lots of people at the games during the week were talking about it. Nice fellow he is.

Dear Fellow Bloggers.....I like the rest of you are disappointed with the team not getting out of the first round, but; let's remember just a few months ago everyone did not think the K's would even make the playoffs. We are very fortunate to be able to say that this community has had a team for 54 seasons, the same ownership for 16 years, an excellent venue to play in...the MC is a great building (I hope to look that good when I'm 54!!!) Yes, there will be changes to the team, that is the nature of the business. But it gives all of us something to look forward to over the summer and that really is part of the fun of Komet Hockey....the anticipation of things to come and at least for me.....the wonderful memories, the friends that I have made over the years, the stories to share with others....the things that live on after our time is done. Blake, I too want to thank you for hosting this blog. I have enjoyed being able to chat with you and everyone else on this forum. I hope that you will continue it next season and maybe be able to give some updates over the summer. If you or anyone else would like to chat with me over the summer and talk about hockey I would be delighted to chat with you. Let's give the team a nice send off at the party Tuesday and have a super summer....see you all in October!

Where are the Jorde apologists now?

Thanks to Galbraith, Miller, and Goodwin. They worked hard every night and kept my season tickets from going unused.

Thanks to Blake for giving us a platform to express our opinions.... even if they differ from the moral compass steered by Tony and Greg. No hard feelings guys.

Let's work on getting some quality defense and a tough guy or two for next year.

Peace out Komet fans!

Jungle it would be more correct to say that YOUR opinions differ.......
Opinions are like dirty socks. Most of us have too many of them.

No moral compass. I never tell anyone how to act or what to do.
But that doesn't mean I can't comment on it. Just as others can comment on my actions. I am comfortable with my behaviour both on this blog and when I come down to Fort Wayne as a paying patron. I believe my behaviour represents a city that I care very much about. If others want to represent themselves and the city in a different way that is their right as long as laws are not being broken.
Me moral? Giggle. My better half would laugh her head off if she saw me being accused of that lol.

I've only got one thing to say after reading all the posts!

The Komets are the best entertainment we have in town.... Thanks to Blake for his extra work on the blog. Thanks to the Frankes for keeping OUR hockey team here. And last but not least by any means, THANKS to the TEAM. Other than Blake :0), do all of us do our best every day at work? These guys gave it their all...

Thanks to those who shared my views most of the time, Hit, Skate, Chukcitt, etc.. and to those who did not...WE have a great hockey club with a great place to watch a game, but now it is time for the Clubs to come out and time for this organization to bring a team in that is younger and plays a rugged style. Blakes article sums it up well you just can not play a rugged style at the flip of the switch it has to happen night in and night out. As for the vet's I would not fill all the vet spots I would rather see tweeners and rookies. WE could use a few from the OHL and I will take a chaz Johnson and a Big Snake.....Peace

Blake, Thanks for working hard on this blog all year, it's been a pleasure to read all the differing views, beliefs, and feelings. And even though I don't agree with them all, it's gratifing to have a place to state tem.
Jungle Monkey-No hard feelings here either. Most likely I'll forget most of what was said in here by June.
It sounds likethis will be a very interesting off season. I will be looking in constantly to see what changes the Frankes have in mind.

Good morning all. You know, much of the season, this blog was more entertaining than the team! lol. Everyone here is great (even those who are wrong ERRRRRRRRRR have opinions that differ from mine lol just kidding folks)
No worries. I have the Gary Glitter song here and anytime someone says something I don't like, I hit the play button and scream "you suck!" lol

You guys are fortunate to have such a successful franchise that is in contention almost every year. The Rockford fans have been waiting years for this team and there isn't a single fan here with a nail left to bite, hopefully they will grow back by the next round.

have a nice summer ks fans
Sat, 04/29/2006 - 8:37am

i agree blake, wierd season for sure! i definately think
the team needs to get younger
and more enthusiastic next
year. tony e and david were right they need to scout the major junior canadian leagues
better, evidently rockford
did a helluva job with scouting, 9 rookies. the ks
cant just sign the same ole
vets year in and year out
and then throw in players
from other clubs like roanoke
and motor city to fill out the
roster, as for the coach???
i dont deny his success at this level and that he is a
nice guy but i am ready for
a change behind the bench.
anyone with me on that?
have a nice summer y"all!
i guess i will turn into a
k-wings fan for the rest of the year and drive up to
kzoo and cheer on the wings.
hopefully they can win the cup!!!

blake, thanks for the year! the blog was a great idea. now that the season is over we can all overlook our differences and know that we are all komet fans and are looking to always improve, its just that some have different ideas than others! i for one will root for rockford to win cause they play the game the way i like it. physical play mixed in with finesse. im sure the ks dug themselves such a hole in the beginning that trying to patch it up with the available castoffs was the only option, its just a bad wasy to go. next year is starting already and whether we change coaches or bring back the same vets, the new year starts now. our biggest fault this year is that our rookies and tweeners just didnt fit in with our vets. yu cant overlook vets like dupuis, neumeire, chaulk druin and st pierre. id sign them all up again! add luciuk to that if you can, but its the supporting cast which makes the difference, so lets hhope the boys do their homework and get us back to the top. one or two bad years out of 16 isnt bad people!! go komets!!!! have a great summer and save some budweiser for me!!!!

Well no that the season is over its time to pay some thanks. Thanks to the Komets for turning it around this year and giving it a shot in the playoffs. Appreciated the effort you all put into this season. Thanks to Blake for having this blog to express ourselves. Sometimes we all don't agree but in our own sort of twisted way of saying things....we all have one common agenda and that is wanting the best team in the UHL.
Hopefully next season will be different from start to finish and we will not be doing these "thank you's" so early in the spring. You all have been great to agree and disagree with this season. Hopefully I will see some of you guys/gals around the Fort this summer. Take care and have a great offseason.

Blake --

Excellent article today, you make important and correct points. I know this to be true, because I have been saying the same things for years.

I have to wonder how many quality players just won't come here any more because, as you said, it's definitely Puhalski's team and if you don't play his system, you don't play.

We simply had no answer for ANY of Rockford's tough guys: Big Snake, Johson, Tibbetts, Watson, Voltera. Either with the gloves on or off.

Puhalski (and D. Franke) refuse to recuit players of this style. Fine, but we all saw the result this year. I've held season tickets for maybe 35 years. I grew up on Komets hockey. I used to live and die with the team.

Not any more. For the last 6 years, my interest has fallen every year. Last season I hesitated before renewing my tickets, but fell for the old line that "this year things will be different."

I see Puhalski is signed thru next year. Great. (NOT) Either he (and D. Franke) change the way they go about putting a team together and give us some AGGRESSIVE hockey or they're going to lose a season ticket holder.

Note to CHUCKITT:

There is not enough Budweiser in the world to satisfy you.

Even though the season is over, I will not forget my differences.

I still hate you all.
