Sellars market

Komets General Manager David Franke said this evening that the Komets have made an offer to defenseman Luke Sellars who has been in Fort Wayne practicing with the team for a couple of weeks.
"We'll know more later this week,'' Franke said. "He's got some interest from some other teams who found out he was here, but I feel real good about our offer. We'll just let him make his mind up.''

Sellars has not played since Feb. 2, 2004 while playing for Chicago of the American Hockey League  against San Antonio when he suffered a severe knee injury. He's had problems with his knee cap ever since, including multiple surgeries.

The Komets have filed immigration papers for Sellars, but it's doubtful he could play before Feb. 24, if he's in condition by then. Sellars, 24, is a former junior teammate of Komets forward Lance Galbraith.

"He tried skating with us last year in Boise and it didn't pan out and he had to have surgery to correct it,'' Galbraith. "He does everything really well. He's a great player. He'd be a great addtion if we can get him in our lineup. Health is an issue. He'd be one of the top D in this league and could definitely help us. He'll be hungry to play.''

DAB's conflict was with the Chief. I talked to him last year when he was here and injured in the stands, he said the Franke's approached him about coming back last year, but our brilliant coach didn't want him on the team. Go figure?
