Tailing the Komets

Shaf is leaving Friday

Veteran forward Konstantin Shafranov is leaving the Komets on Friday to play for Kazakhstan in the upcoming World Championships in Germany. Because he'll play a minimum of six games, Shafranov will not be back the rest of this season, after which he's planning to retire anyway.

Because the games do not start until May 7, there's no chance Shafranov will be back in time to make the playoffs. Besides that, the Komets would not want to use up a roster spot by holding a position open for him.

Playing in the world championships has always been a dream for Shafranov, who played in the 1998 Olympics, especially since one of his good friends is now coaching the team.

One thing for sure is David Franke and Coach Sims will make a move if they can bring somebody in that will help the club, they have done it about every year. And Wendy Woods speared Oke. It was not really that bad, but he did jab him with his stick. I am sure the league will look at it and my guess he will get a game for it.

That's what I figured. Revenge for the boarding incident. We'll see, but yeah, some sort of suspension is probably coming there.

Hodgeman is property of the Toronto Marlies. I don't think he could come back at his point.

Jaromir Legault for sure. Sign him and sit him in the crowd for goodluck. Pay him in Great Clips Mohawk and Orange hair color.

I just read where David Franke said on another website that there are ZERO restrictions on who they can bring in, as long as their season is over, the players team that is.

Hodgman is on the Radar.
So is Aquino.

Also rumor flying that the Komets are going to the ECHL and the announcement is coming soon. Not sure if I am buying it yet. We will see.

My sources are saying that AA hockey will split into 3 regions with East, Midwest, and West. Affiliated with the NHL and AHL feeding into those leagues. Much like baseball's minors. We might well end-up in a great situation with toledo, cincy, dayton, k-zoo, etc. I am hearing playoff format will include all 3 divisions of the AA landscape.

We will see how it all falls into place. I am just telling you what the talk has been from several people.

If this is what it is.....sounds awesome to me.

Flint 3 points behind B-town with a game at hand. If they win tomorrow at home against musky it sets up a brawl in Flint between B-town and Flint in Flint next Friday night.
That team would be scary in the playoffs.
Good luck to Shaf. He deserves a proper sendoff.

Wendy, does this mean we will finally get to see the interview with Mike??

Otto gave me the disc to send to Mike since I wasn't able to record the broadcast for him as promised. But yes, it will air eventually, but my guess is not until the next Komets marathon like they had a couple of weeks ago. Shame, too. Brad MacMillan was a co-announcer for that one, which I'm sure everyone would have enjoyed seeing, not to mention the interviews with Mike and Robbie.

Got a ? for you,Hit. If Hodgman is the property of Toronto,What are the chances that they will allow Justin to play for us and take a chance of getting hurt. I'm not saying you are wrong with your assesment of Shafs replacement,But if I were the bigwig in Toronto,I wouldn't want one of my players possibly getting hurt in a "Lower" league. I hope you are right but I think it will be Aquino. I hope it's him and not Legs. Also. I think that was the "Big News" Chaser was speaking of.
Hoping i'm wrong but I think we will have one more season of IHL before we leave for the ECHL. Let's hope i'm wrong. lol

He might not be anyone's property now that his season is over in the AHL. Not sure if he is contracted at all. Might not be. Kind of like Syro was called up and came back down, Hodgman may have gotten the call-up and now that season is over and they aren't in the playoffs, so he might be for the takings if he is willing to come. I am sure he would jump at it. He is a freaking playoff legend here in the Fort. Might as well add to that legend with a 3rd ring. Why not sign both Hodgman and Aquino.....last year of the IHL it seems, lets go 3 in a row and stick to the DumberHacks. Might be FW v. Flint in the Final......LOL......Savage would wet himself.

Shaf,

I'm gonna miss ya bud. At least you got back on the winning streak on Wednesday with our marathon ping pong session.Hope to cross paths with you again, but if not, thanks for the NHL touch you brought to FW. Your puck handling and play making skills were second to none. Of all the guys I have seen suit up for the K's, you were a class act and an A-1 magician with the puck. Not many guys have the patience and the touch that you have and it was a joy to watch. Thanks Shaf.

If (and hopefully when) Shaf starts tonight, will there be an announcement such as "and in his final start tonight" so everyone who may not know the news has a chance to acknowledge Shaf? I hope so. Everything you said Komets PA is spot-on and I hope the Sunday crowd can roar for him like a Saturday crowd.

Well... lots of comments since, but thanks for clearing up that the minimum game requirement rule no longer exists this year. Depending on the other deadlines then who knows, but regardless, we need a sniper, put him on a line with Chaulk and all will be well

Best of luck to Konstantin Shafranov as he competes in the World championships and as he begins the next grand adventure in his life. He was always a class act on the ice and I'm sure Komet Nation will carry fond memories of him from here on out.
