Tailing the Komets

So what did you think?

This may shock you, but i didn't think the Komets really played all that well, but Rockford was worse. The Komets gave up a lot of shots, especially early, but they weren't great scoring chances. They gave up better chances later and got burned. The defense was really struggling, and the five-on-five play was only fair. Thank goodness for the special teams.

Any time  you can beat Rockford is impressive, but...

So what did you think? Maybe I'm just having a bad day.

Entertaining Game!

Here are my impressions and thoughts:

The 3rd line is awesome. They might not score goals, but they put the pinch on the other team's scoring line and virtually never let the puck out of the offensive zone. This is from speed, heart, and hustle.

Jonathon Goodwin has blossomed into a Star in this league. He looks every bit as good, maybe even better than Bobby Stewart did the year he had 48 goals. Goody is even playing a mean PK and looks to be quicker, tougher, inspired, and more determined than ever. I venture to say that Coach Bingham has a ton to do with this.

Arthur Kiyaga, sad to say this, but he looks outmatched out there. I believe he was on the ice for all 3 of Rockfords goals and at least 2 of them were because he was out muscled. I like the guy and do not want to be negative about him, but I think Gabrielson has to be one of our defensemen.

Speaking of Gabrielson, he looks like an impressive figure out there on the ice. Smooth fast skater, with skill and takes the body.

Robin Big Snake is one of the biggest jerks and stupidest players I have ever seen. What a freaking idiot this guy is. I applaud Morency for not fighting him. It made Big Snake look really poor.

Bruce Watson is the biggest cheapshot artist ever, and a BUM! I really was begging for someone to take a run at that guy and knock his bleeping head off. I hate that guy. He gave the finger to the crowd before the game too. What a classy guy.

The Powerplay is incredible. Our goals were the result of not one, not two, but three guys standing point blank in front of the net with great passing and setup from the D-Men.

I have been critical of Domber...I admit it. He looks like a darn good player out there. He has played tough as nails and is a good offensive D-man. Way to go Captain Caveman!!!! Larry needs to find that soundbite and play it often.

Finally, and I apoligize for typing so much, but the Overall Speed of the game this year is impressive. It is up several notches and the talent level is much improved. This is the same Rockford team that walked all over us last year, they can't hold the jocks of our team this year. The speed on the ice looks 20x better. Anyone else notice that?

The "hot-nuts" at the MC are yummy....LOL They smell good too. Good choice. I will buy them every game.

I am in a great mood......

i like the way the guys are using their body and getting down to block the puck, you usually only see this in the playoffs.

Domber is playing like he wants to stay in Ft Wayne all year. I give him a lot of credit for going toe to toe with Goon Snake and taking the cheap shots Goon Snake was dishing out once he was on the ground.

Goodwin is going to flourish in this new offense.

I do like the new offensive and defensive style. Blake says the komets didn't play all that well and i'll take his word for it since he has been doing this for 79 years, but, i can really see the new style of hockey, the new players and the new coach and i like what i've seen.

UHL Refs averaged over 30 penalties called per game tonight. I thought someone else was wearing Mondaleks ref shirt tonight for the first 9 minutes but he came back in rare form. Mondalek is certainly in the running for Burgee's UHL Idiot of the week award. If Hawthorne or Searle show up tomorrow i'm going to vomit before the game.

What ticked me off at the end was Goon Snake smacking three different people in the face and Mondalek doing nothing about it.

You sure could tell when Whiny Baby(Martinson) let out the Goon Squad. What a sore loser scumbag.

Nice try scoop guys.

Not a bad game. Our power play is awesome! I felt we let up way too early but the 3rd line did a great job of getting back the momentum every time we lost it. Props to Dombkiewicz for fighting Big Snake and playing a pretty good game. Like what Hit said, I don't expect Kiyaga to be in the line up too much more. The kid plays hard but just doesn't have the strength and smarts yet to play at this level. I will say this about Rockford...although they played poorly tonight, they are going to be a very good team. They have the make up of a good team and I predict some very good battles against them this year and hopefully another awesome playoff series.

Sadly Mondalek is probably one of the better officials in this league.

How did you like that Goon line of Little Johnson, Elementary Watson, and Small Worm?

Jerks,,,all jerks if you ask me.

Mondalek was tolerable...he is bad...but Hawthorne was in a different league last week. Let the little things go....call the big things and I am happy.

I don't really want our guys messing with the goon sqaud, especially goon snake, he plays dirty, i thought he was trying to gouge captain cavemans eyes out, thats what it looked like from my seat

The special teams so far, is doing really nice work....I hope that they try to get some more scoring during 5 on 5 play....(when they are at full strength!) Still a lot of dumb penalties on both sides, not quite as much as last weekend....but the players are still learning the systems and the enhanced enforcement of certain penalties. I hardly noticed Kiyaga tonight...not a good sign, but Domber and Dupuis....WOW! Those two were awesome! Overall, I was pleased with the results. Let's get another win on Saturday!

The thing with Kiyaga is he just doesnt seem confident in his skills. He's got them without a doubt, he's just got to get that self confidence up but we do have to remember, he's still very young.

I thought Mondalek actually called a good game, I have a bad feeling that we'll be seeing Berky tomorrow night...I hope and pray that i'm wrong tho. I'd really like to see Adam Fish again soon.

We played pretty sloppy tonight at times and i'm really surprised that Rockford didn't take advantage of that more then they did. It could have easily been the other way around tonight.

Hopefully the guys havent forgot about Bloomington handing them their one and only loss of this young season and come out fireing. I was at the game in Bloomington so i've gotten to see their team and I'd suggest you pay attention to Baker and Payne. You also have to always watchout for Lawmaster and Rennette

All in all, pretty good game. We saw a lot of little mistakes that could have turned into huge ones, but the K's managed to come out of most of them just fine. What a night for Goody, Guy, and Bruce. Some hot stuff there. Props to Larry on the sound bites. I love it when Rockford comes. Always great things from Larry. As for Big Duh, Watson, and even Betts, what a bunch of goons. Glad they're not with us. No class, that's for sure.

Kiyaga isn't going to last long at this rate. I love the way this team plays. Bozo and Domber are hitting people and playing a slight bit chippy, this has to be a direct effect of knowing their teammates have their backs. A far cry from a year ago.

Big Snake is an idiot. The day will come when someone puts a serious hurt on him. And I will applaud when it does. The gouging of eyes after a fight is ridiculous. Yet, I'm sure there will be no punishment for it. I just wish all the "suspension junkies" would take of on this one....

Sat, 10/28/2006 - 5:47am

Kiyaga was brutal last night. He was completely responsible for the 3rd Hogs goal as he passed the puck right to a Hogs player in the defensive zone leading to a goal. He could be on his way out...

Big Fake is a clown!!! JM is right, a suspension should be coming for his antics last night. Tons of talent + No brain = LOSER!!!

Can't believe I am going to agree with Tony, but last night was not the time to goon it up with the Hogs. If the Hogs were beating us, do you think Martinson would let his goons fight? Hell no!!! He fines his players if they fight without his permission. When his team is getting beat, then he takes the chains off and lets his players fight. payback is a bit**, eh Martinson?

While the power play and special teams overall have been awesome, I agree with Blake in saying that 5 on 5 the Komets have struggled so far this year. Of course, with the way the Refs are calling games, it seems like there is very little 5 on 5 play anymore. I would like to see more consistent play by the Komets, but at 3-1 so far, I am happy, especially with the fact that Chief is gone.

I thought Domber was upset because of the exrta hit Big Worm gave him while on the ice? It seemed like after Domber dropped, BS took another swing and got him in the eye. That's what it looked like he was yelling about while in the sin bin.

Blake, I thought it was a great game and anytime you can blow-out the Piggies is a good time. I didn't think it looked like our team gave up at all, just two bad giveaways that ended in goals. I can't wait till tonight to get revenge on our only loss!!!

I was talking to someone last night who said Kiyaga looks uptight/tense, maybe he just needs to relax and play hockey, let it flow.

If we keep our composure tonight and not get drawn into stupid fights and we don't have the dumbest of dumb officiating, Komets win 9-1.

Great game I though. That top line of Richardson-Goodwin-Goneau is really clicking.

Got to agree with those who said Kiyaga is horrible. He really didn't play well last night.

Even though Mondalak isn't my favorite ref (okay I really don't have a favorite) he did let the guys play early then tried to reel in as tempers were getting out of control. Loved what Morency did to Big snake, really got into his head.

BTW-Larry, what were you saying during the anthem, with Dider singing I couldn't make it out...just kidding.

Cant wait to attend once again tonight.... i will pretty much say what everyone else has. Our power play is playing great. Goody's first goal was very very impressive. As much as I love seeing the hard hitting style of hockey we are playing this year....Im a little upset at the end with noone stepping up and fighting Big Snake. I know that with a big lead like that, you dont want to drop just to drop, but just like the little bully at school, he is going to keep going at ya until you stand up for yourself. I felt the Komets could have sent a message last night with a fight win at the end. Having said that I think we played very well except for about a 7-8 minute span in the 2nd. Also Kiyaga is playing very tight. I was focusing on him when he gave up that pass that ended up in a goal and he is playing like a robot without much feel for the game. He will improve. MAN DO I LOVE BINGHAM!!!! Go Komets.

Did anyone else notice when Big Snake's name went up on the scoreboard for his penalty it just said "19 Snake"? Wonder if that was intentional...

Any news about Bozoian? Didn't look good when he left last night.

Lot of observations - As suspected, Bingham's team will be more fun to watch, win or lose, than watching the old system. Goodwin was a 30-goal scorer in that system and a threat to score 50 under Bingham's system and yet a more complete player. Richardson is the real deal. Goneau is a constant threat. Ruid is solid. The third line is fast and pesky. Domber has been solid, Dupuis is solid as expected and Laroque is a major addition all the way around. Kiyaga looked very good in exhibitions, but very weak during the first two home games. I think he played loose in exhibitions because nobody expected him to make the team, including him. Now that he has, he has tightened up. He is young and probably intimidated by the pressure of playing for real before such big crowds. He showed he can play here, but he has to do it when given the chance. I hope AJ is okay. And we haven't seen a power play like this for years. They actually move around, keep the puck moving, find open passing lanes, and even go to the net and screen the opposing goalie. Whoever heard of such a thing?

You too, Ilovehockey.

According to the Ks, Bozo is day to day with a lower leg injury. They don't seem to feel it's too serious.

how strange it is to actually see komet players in front of the net! binghams system is old time hockey! thought our d looked pretty good but they need to hit and punish people more. arthur looks and plays like a rookie, dont forget, he is a rookie! he was responsible for one goal but the other two, he was on his man who passed to the eventual scorer, and they scored because the other d men were out of position. havent seen anybody on the team to pick on yet! maybe we can bring guinn back so i can have someone to pick on!
