Tailing the Komets

So who needs Luciano Aquino?

Kidding, kidding. Aquino is the team's leading scorer, but you've got to like what P.C. Drouin did over the weekend playing on the line with Colin Chaulk and Mitch Woods, four goals and six points. They were all plus-3 today in a 5-2 win over Flint.

Some interesting numbers: Since Drouin signed Nov. 23, he's averaged 1.2 points per game and the Komets have gone 32-7-3. Those are MVP type numbers for Drouin.

By my calculations, the Komets' magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 10 points and their magic number to clinch the regular-season title is 22 points. They have lost only one game in regulation since the start of February. That's astonishing.

Drouin isn't the same player he was 2 years ago, he is better, he plays hard, and even goes in the corners. He was that one piece the Komets didn't have at the beginning of the season.

I asked PC about this last week and he said a lot of it has to do with his linemates. At the time that was Terry Marchant and Matt Reynolds. They are so interchangeable it's very difficult for opponents to set up a system to cover them. He also talked about how much more comfortable he is on the point of the power play with Guy now said he loves playing for Al Sims. It has always amazed me how many guys have their career-best year playing for Al here. The system of play is also different than it was previously.
