* Rick Varone is going to sign with a CHL team this week.
* Did you know Danny Stewart was a player-coach with the Newcastle Vipers? I can't imagine how hard that would be in today's hockey world. One of his players is Blair Stayzer. Another is Jamie Carroll.
* Justin Chwedoruk is playing in Denmark which is also where his girlfriend is from. Travis Whitehead is playing in Germany.
* The IHL/CHL has eliminated the position of Vice President of Hockey Operations Brad Jones. He's a good man who will find something else in hockey.
* The PHPA expects to have a copy of its collective bargaining agreement with the CHL up on its website in a week or so.

I know where Varone is signing :)
Any news on Brent Henley ?
Blake, What league are the "Newcastle Vipers" in?
Danny Stewart is a good guy with a lot of hockey sense. He might do a pretty good job. I hope Rick has a good year and stays healthy.
Chewy will do well where ever he plays. He's always hard working.
I hate that for Brad Jones. He is a good man and your correct he will end up someplace in hockey.
Thanks for the updates
Newcastle plays in the EIHL (England)... There is a link at the bottom left side at NHL.com if you want to check it out...
my guess is that Varone is signing with Bloomington.
Thanks JR.... I think I knew that and had a senior moment. Could have been worse I guess.
Who will dish out all of the uneven justice with Jones being "let go"?
Does the IHL still have employees? If so, who pays them? Are the Komets, Gems, and Icemen paying IHL and CHL dues?
My question is similar to JM's....
What is the IHL? I mean, isn't it defunct? NO longer, nada, goodbye?
Don't the Komets play in the CHL?
I am not trying to be a smart Arse. But all the other teams in the league are calling themselves CHL members. No mention of IHL.
What is Dennis Hextall's status, and if he is the Commish of the IHL......what is the point?
I intend these to be serious questions. I am trying to understand all of this.
Maybe we are seeing the slow phasing out of the IHL. Kinda let it die over time and quietly to avoid admitting its failure and the bruising of some feelings..?.?.?.....
Getting hit in the arm 10x all at once hurts; but getting hit 10x spaced out every couple monthes is bearable.....
Hit Somebody has had his face chewed off too many times, look at the way he tip-toes into asking questions.. Lol..
I imagine Komets will quit using IHL as soon as the first game is done, but I don't think the IHL is dead for good. It might end up becoming like the CHL and coming back a few years later depending on the economy, etc. Who knows? Minor league hockey and minor league sports have always been and always will be very static. Get used to it. C'mon the Iowa Cubs are in the Pacific Coast League?
Dennis Hextall has another year left on his contract.
Guess they are paying Hextall either way, might as well find something for him to do... but then again, why start now?
Okay.. Comedy hour is over.
Hey Mightbite ... how is it you know where Rick Varone is signing ???
Mightbite pretty much knows a lot about signings etc. He has a feel for what is happening.
Be careful rocking the boat Hit. Some people will spaz out. Ribbon board going up, soon the price of Komet tickets will too. That was a joke, relax. Or was it? Leagues aren't as static as teams are, discounting the IHL/UHL/IHL and the CHL, but I'm just going by what the AHL has been doing.
Just wanted to say Justin is very happy in Denmark. He lives and plays in Rodovre, a suburb of Copenhagen. Training camp started August 1, and between exhibition, tournament, and league they have already played 10 games.
Justin and I talk about Fort Wayne a lot. Hockey has taken Justin all over North America and Europe, and no where has he been treated better, and more professionally, than in Fort Wayne. That includes the 2 years Justin spent under AHL contract with Edmonton/Springfield including 2 training camps with the Oilers. The fans, management, coach, trainers of Fort Wayne are second to none, we view all of the negative comments from other teams/fans as nothing but pure jealuosy. We will be watching the exploits of The Komets with great interest this year on their way to 4 in a row!!!
Thanks Chewy'sdad! Send along our best wishes for a great season to Justin in Denmark. I, for one, will miss his constant motoring and all out effort he put into every shift. He was alot of fun to watch...
Yeah thanks Chewy'sdad. I for one loved watching him last season and he became one of my favorite players. His hustle and determination was fun to watch. I really wanted the Komets to re-sign him badly. Hopefully he can come back in the future.
Thanks ChewysDad! I know Mom and I will miss seeing him, he was one of our favorites.
Chewysdad thank you for those very kind words!! It will go over a select few bloggers heads but thanks anyway we really appreciate it!!
ChewysDad,
Kathleen and I enjoyed being able to watch Justin play here in Fort Wayne. You raised a very fine young man, and I wish him well wherever his hockey career takes him.
