Tailing the Komets

Some notes

Bloomington's Garrett Klotz has been called up to Adirondack of the AHL.

Bobby Phillips won't play Wednesday but said he's improving and could have played if the Komets had been down 2-0 in the series.

The Komets will wear white at home the rest of the playoffs after wearing black in the second half.

Bloomington's two leading scorers, Jason Dale, had only five shots and one assist in the first two games.

Darn I was kinda hoping that Klutz would stay. He gets way too emotional and probably was one of the factors that led to Bloomy loosing the first game. But there are a couple of other smart one's on that team that could also get some dumb penalities. Mr. Cloud is a really fun player. Dropping his gloves to fight no one at the start of game two. Note to Bloomy players, you don't fight in the playoffs.

Should they really mess with the mojo by switching to the white jerseys? They were doing well with the black ones...

In defense of Cloud, Schrock had given every indication he was going to go with Cloud at the face-off and then turned and left. I did not like what Schrock did at all and Cloud was not called for any penalty so it accomplished nothing. If you are going to talk trash and give every indication to accept a challenge then you drop the gloves and fight, otherwise keep your mouth shut and play the game. This was a result of what happen in pre game between Schrock, Cloud, and Klotz. And let me say this I am a fan of Schrock's and how he plays, I am not a fan of what he did at the start of the last game.

Agreed Griff..... Had the roles been reversed, there would have been 127 posts calling Cloud all kinds of names and the nicest would have been Chicken "Poo" (edited to remain G rated...lol)....

Yeah...you all wouldn't be complainingif it drew a penalty and the komets scored on that powerplay. Get real guys. If I recall, woods did it his first game as a komet and you all cheered him. Schrock did it to get bloomington raddled. Its not his fault the ref didn't do his job.

Yes I would, John.... I dont care who the player plays for, you dont agree to a fight and then not go... Thats Chicken poo...

Now if the Komets are up by 3 goals at that point and Cloud trys to goad him into a fight and Schrock doesnt go, then thats an entirely different scenario....

I would have the same stance because I think it is bush league and because what happen and the flow of play was not disrupted there is no penalty so the ref got it right because in his judgement it did not disrupt the play.

Blake (And anyone else) any idea why Cloud didn't get called for a delay of game? The ref looked at him at least three times, not to mention when Cloud figured out what happened he skated to the bench as fast as he could, stopped to go back to get his gear, then just went back to the bench. He looked like he had no idea if he was coming of going.

I also had a question about the game on Saturday and why Boucher didn't get a call for playing with a broken stick. He was holding the bottom half of his stick playing well over a minute and each official saw him. Is the rule different for a goalie?

I think the situation with Cloud, its a judgement call for the official... Now if he would have grabbed Schrock or hounded him, he probably would have gotten a penalty; but if he just went to the bench, then there's no reason to call a penalty, and I'm glad the ref didnt call one, IMO...

I do think the goalie can play with a broken stick while in the crease...I'll see what I can find (if someone doesnt answer it first...)

10.4 Broken Stick - Goalkeeper - A goalkeeper may continue to play with a broken stick until a stoppage of play or until he has one legally handed to him by a teammate. The teammate must hand the stick to him. He cannot throw it or slide it to the goalkeeper (this includes situations where the goalkeeper has lost his stick and a teammate is trying to return it to him). For a violation of this rule, a minor penalty for throwing the stick shall be assessed to the offending player (no penalty to the goalkeeper for receiving the stick).

Hoss, the ref probably heard the exchange and acceptance of the challenge. Maybe he figured by embarrassing KLS it (the fake) would not be happening again any time soon.
The goaltender is the only player on the ice who can play with a broken stick. Rule 10.4 NHL Rules

Hoss

Sorry...but does this also mean the goalie stick doesn't count as a second stick for a player? I could be wrong, but I always thought it was penalty if a player had two sticks (like if a teammate dropped his and you returned it to him while holding your stick) but in a game a few weeks ago, the goalie got his stick knocked out of his hand and it went behind the net. A teammate picked it up, while holding his stick too, and returned it while play was going on.

Does that make sense? I'm working on not much sleep...

JR1

If he picks up the stick and takes it straight to the goalie, then its fine; but if he gets caught in the play and comes in contact with the puck while holding two sticks, then I believe its a penalty....

Mark21
Tue, 04/05/2011 - 8:25pm

I think that happened to Bertram last year in game 6 vs PH. He picked up the goalie stick to give it back to Boucher, then played the puck with his stick. Thus, getting called for playing with an illegal stick...
