Tailing the Komets

Some notes

Komets announcer Bob Chase will celebrate his 85th birthday on Saturday... Goaltender Kevin Reiter's save percentage jumped from .890 to .899 after Sunday's 37-save performance... The Komets are 2-8-3 during the first game of the week, including 2-5-1 at home.... Over the last 10 games, P.C. Drouin has led the Komets in scoring with five goals and 12 points. Frankie DeAngelis and Tab Lardner each have 10 points and Guy Dupuis nine... Colin Chaulk hasn't changed much as he has seven points on only seven shots on goal... Despite a 3-7-1 record, Kevin Reiter ranks 10th among CHL goaltenders with a 2.88 goals against average... Chris Francis leads CHL rookies with seven power-play assists... Despite out-shooting their opponents by 17, the Komets have been out-scored 43-28 during the second period... The Komets are 1-10-0 when trailing after the first period... P.C. Drouin needs five games to become the 24th player to play 400 career games as a Komet.

Brad is still suspended from the CHL.

Fighting penalties are almost exactly the same as they were last year, according to the numbers, but the game has changed. Ten years ago teams averaged 30-plus penalty minutes a game, and now it's around 20 minutes a game. It's definitely becoming less a part of the game, and I think there are two reasons for that -- it's less at all levels from the bottom on up, and there are fewer players who choose to fight. Almost all of these players have never even seen a line brawl, let alone participated in one. They wouldn't have a clue what to do other than hang on.

The Komets have had only eight players receive fighting penalties this season, and Phillips, Molle, Fletcher, Rechlicz and Rodger have one each. During their last 12 games when they have gone 7-1-4, the Komets have been involved in only five fights.

I think it was 96-97 which was also the worst team in franchise history.

I'm discouraged because PC has nice stats but every game he turns over passes or shoots it right at the goalies chest. I feel like the goals he gets are lucky goals. He lacks hustle and his passes are just lackluster. He's a great guy, but this year, I feel, not a good hockey player. Am I wrong?

That's the way he's been his ENTIRE Fort Wayne career.......when you look at the end of the season how many points PC had, you always scratch your head and wondered how in the heck that happened.

So Francis gets recalled. The timing is weird but good luck to him. Maybe we will see him again. This does however open 2 spots on the game roster. I noticed the Komets were 1 player short Sunday as far as being dressed for the game. It should make it a little less difficult when everyone gets healthy. Who goes and who stays? Who gets hidden on IR? Decision decisions.

I don't think Francis helps the roster that much....he was mostly being paid by Columbus and his salary here only amounted to $500 dollars a week against the cap...if my memory serves me correctly from discussions Blake and I had about this regarding affiliated players and how they measure against the cap.

We still have a cap problem guys and gals.

Someone who makes substantial money on this roster will have to go.

I think I know who it will be....but I won't say it out loud so i don't offend anyone.

Really 2 or 3 guys will have to go.

Francis was starting to blossum here. I will miss seeing him play. I kinda liked him on a line with PC and Musselwhite.....it forced PC to keep up. LOL

Where was I anti-fighting? I just stated some facts. Personally? I could care less. Fighting doesn't do anything for me one way or the other. It just is. I have tremendous respect for the men who do it, but it doesn't make my heart race.

The "facts" all pointed in the same direction. It's not a big deal, you've just made it known that you're not a fan. Everybody has their opinion. I personally don't care for "staged" fighting. I prefer a Craig Cescon style fight that breaks out in the heat of the moment and is done to protect themselves or a teammate.

1-10-0 when trailing after the first period doesn't surprise me at all. Scoring goals was a terrible weakness for this team for most of the first half season. If they fell behind one or two to nothing, most likely their offense would never bail them out.

By the way, it seems to me that P.C. has been rejuvenated by the return of Chaulk. Maybe its a coincidence and then again, maybe not. Whatever the reason is, it is good to see.

P.C. has been playing quite a bit better since before Colin came back.
